We were in the Sacramento/Roseville area for a weekend volleyball tournament. Had to make the drive up with Friday traffic from the bay area with RV in tow and wanted to find a decent place that offered my son some great food, but me too with gluten free/ vegetarian offerings.
Eureka came up nearby and looked at the menu and was excited to try. We drove up, it looked really busy outside and thought we'd go over to Lazy Dog that had a half empty patio (as I literally just made a comment wishing there was a Lazy Dog). As we got closer to Lazy Dog, it looked like it was set up for a big party and went back across the street to Eureka.
SO SO happy we did! There was actually room at a table outdoors or indoors. We opted for indoors and AC after our 3.5 hour drive in traffic and left to nice outdoor space for someone else. We were happy to be seated right away.
For the rare few like myself with chemical sensitivities, sitting indoors was pleasurable. No bleach affecting our space, high ceilings with lots of ventilation left no lingering fragrances from nearby tables and all staff were fragrance free which made for a most enjoyable experience I don't get elsewhere with this disability.
My son ordered the BBQ bacon burger with some mac n cheese balls (he wished he had more) and I had the Crispy Veggie Beet burger. He gobbled his food down so fast and said it was so much better than Lazy Dog. I too, was happy with the gluten free bun ($3 extra) that was light with slight crisp and actually tasted good, but oh my, that beet burger with the slight crisp too it has to be my all time favorite veggie burger. It was moist, yet crisp, and flavored so you didn't need condiments if you didn't want them.
They didn't have grand marnier so no cadillac margarita, but the spa day margarita was interesting. First sip, no, too much cucumber, but got a straw and then tried it and actually enjoyed it as it wasn't as sweet as most and then ordered another.
Service was on par! Luka was great and attentive. He answered all my random gluten free questions as well as others about the restaurant. Appreciated him being attentive and there when needed but not over checking on us. Absolutely perfect service and much appreciated.
I hope someday they open one closer to us than Berkeley in the bay area. The tri-valley would LOVE this. It is our new favorite restaurant and will return any...
Read moreWe came here in a Saturday afternoon around 2:30 in late winter, nearing spring and the place was pretty busy. Nevertheless, we were seated right away at a high top inside the restaurant. We chose to sit indoors because it was a brisk day in the low 60's.
Pros: delicious, well prepared food, dog friendly patio, comfy cozy patio during a brisk day, extensive drink menu, great happy hour...and sports stuff, if you're into that.
Cons: slow and inattentive service, cold inside of the restaurant during a brisk day.
The menu is a variety of classic casual american food with several different burger options. The place has all the makings of a sports bar but the vibe and decor is a little more elevated. So a woman can easily wear a sundress and not be overdressed. The TVs were viewable from every seat and featured ESPN and ESPN 2 shows that thankfully weren't blasting in volume. The service was very slow. It took close to 10 minutes before our server took our drink order. I had to ask for my water twice before they brought it. The inside of the restaurant was quite cold. They had 3 doors open to the outdoors that created a very cold and constant breeze, even though we were indoors. We should have sat on the patio and we should have brought our dog. They welcome dogs and the patio is full of heating lamps that made it more warm and cozy than the inside. They also had a modern looking fire pit but it was high off the ground and appeared to be more for looks than function. Part of the bar is outside, so it feels a little like you're on vacation in Mexico when you sit there.
We both ordered the spicy fried chicken sandwich with fries. The sandwich was perfectly cooked and delicious. The fries were similar to what you get at In N Out burger, but slightly lighter in texture. If you like pickles, theirs are homemade and delicious on the sandwich. My husband ordered a Coke and I had their spicy watermelon hibiscus non boozy mocktail. The mocktail was tasty but not overly sweet, which was a pleasant surprise. The spicy salt was on 1/2 the rim so you could easily enjoy this mocktail without the spice. I alternated sips so some got salt and some didn't. They had lots of mixed alcoholic cocktail offerings and a great beer menu with a little something for everyone.
Overall, we enjoyed...
Read moreEureka!! So I my girlfriend, my dog Madison, and I went for a bite to eat over at The Lazy Dog this last weekend, only to find that they had too many Lazy Dogs inside to squeeze us in. Denied! So we gathered our thoughts and regrouped, and while brainstorming, I had a vision. Or more so, in my line of vision was a sign across the parking lot. Large, with a classy yet unassuming type face, it read ‘Eureka’. We broke from our huddle with a few ideas, but I couldn’t shake the smooth ligatures and unique kerning of the handsomely designed sign just through the lot. As we approached our Volvo, I paused. Let’s check this place out. I mean, where have you been, Joe DiMaggio? All this time we’ve been ignoring this joint because we thought that surely the only dog friendly restaurant within a 2 mile radius is The Lazy Dog. Well guess what, it’s not even the only dog friendly joint in a 200 ft. radius. Not only that, this place has class. The well designed sign that lets you know you’ve arrived is classy, but it’s not all that you’re gonna love about this place. A laid back, modern, hip atmosphere awaits you once you e breached the gate. Smart servers that don’t hate your girlfriend when she orders 6 substitutions for the regular burger (she’s got allergies so lay off), TV’s above the bar that separates the inside from our, and all the bowls of water that Madison could ever want to drink. Not nearly as big or busy feeling as The Lazy Dog, but offering far more than a place to take your dog. Take your mom. You’re cousins when they’re in town. He’ll, take your neighbor who stole your political signs during the last election cycle. No better way to hurry the hatchet than over beers and burgers with your dogs, who prior to the sign steeling 2 years ago, we’re besties. Reminisce, rekindle, and recharge your batteries at this majestic and mighty gold mine....
