Travelodge by Wyndham Ruidoso — Hotel in Ruidoso

We checked into the hotel around 3:00 pm. We were in a hurry to meet our friend at her parents house for my birthday party. We walked into the room before leaving to turn on the AC and discovered the room reeked of smoke. Neither of us smoke. We did NOT request a smoking room. My husband went to the front desk to inform the front desk person of the issue. He was given a small bottle of air freshener and told there are no other rooms. Hotels with smoking rooms ALWAYS have an Ozone machine to clear out smoke smell, apparently they do not.

We were running late so we dashed across town to my friends parents house. I told them where we were staying and that the room smelled like smoke. We tried to find other accommodations, but everything was booked up in Ruidoso for a concert.

At appx 9:15 pm we returned from the party to the room and it still smelled like smoke even with the fans on. I turned the lights on and noticed a bug on the bed. I pulled back the sheets and found more bugs, dirt, stains, and cigarette burns. I pulled back all the sheets and found disgusting dirt and filth all over. (see attached pictures) I also have pictures of the filthy light switch and the broken door lock which someone must have kicked in at some point - this is a safety issue! I don't have pictures but the carpet was also ripped up in numerous spots and there was dirt and dust in the entire room.

My husband called the front desk at appx 9:25 or so to tell the front desk that we could not stay in this filthy room because there were stains and dirt and he was cut off mid sentence with an "Ok, thank you, good bye" and a hang up. There was no, "oh I'm so sorry, or let me see." It was a very rude dismissal.

I filed a complaint with the corporate office and someone from your hotel called to YELL at my husband. You did not say "sorry, or how can we fix this," instead you called to YELL and berate him. You then called back 3 or 4 more times to harass us. I had to call corporate to tell you to STOP harassing us from his cell phone number.

The cost for this room was $90.99, not the LIE the manager sent in an email saying the room was $179.00 He was trying to say that the room was $89.00 MORE that what we booked it for - LIE!

I sent pictures for this dirty bed and room to my friend and then called her in a panic - there was no way I would be sleeping in this disgusting room! My friend then talked to her mom and they felt so bad that they let us stay in their camper. I had to sleep in a DRY camper, no toilet or running water, on my birthday, because you tried to rent me a dirty, unihabital room! He tried to scam us and you didnt even care to look at the room ever to see how filthy it was. WE DID NOT SLEEP IN THAT FITLHY BUG INFESTED ROOM!

The owner or manager won't stop harassing us and trying to bill out credit card for all outrageous amounts. DONT STAY HERE! DONT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD!

DO NOT STAY HERE! I f I could give this place a lower grade than zero I would. My family has lived in Ruidoso most of my life, I lived up there A few years ago, and was recently visiting for the holidays. Decided to just get a room here for the night over Christmas and oh my lord.. Worst mistake I could have made. I would have rather slept in my pickup than to sleep in there. Even in the winter! Over 100. Bucks for 1 night at a dump! Let me tell you, this is literally the first review I've ever left on a hotel, I'm not normally that type of person. But people should be warned not to stay here. It was myself, my wife, and our 2 young daughters. We got into the room and it was freezing cold in there. The heater was barely working, I removed the front cover to see what was wrong with it and the air filter was completely full of black nasty junk. Looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. The entrance door was very loose and wind was blowing in thru the cracks, the carpet was nasty and felt dirty. The microwave had what looked like food stuck to the top, the refrigerator wouldn't get cold enough to cool a drink, the sink area outside the bathroom was nasty! On the floor around the trim was black, filthy and rotting away from water damage. The toilet seat was literally barely held on the toilet, it would completely come off. Lid, seat and all. The toilet would barely flush. The bathroom was cold and the heat lamp didn't work. The shower was disgusting!! I am the only one who showered, my wife and our daughters wouldn't even get in it!!! The shower head was covered in brown nasty rust and grime. Very low water pressure due to the head being so corroded and junk. The vent in the ceiling of the bathroom was literally hanging out of the sheetrock. The paint was bubbled and there was obviously water damage and rot and mold on the walls and trim. And to the beds.... The blankets seemed like they were still being used from the early 90s, the mattresses were filthy and destroyed! I have never in my life layed on a bed that was that bad. My wife is small. 5'8. 120 pounds, just with her in the bed it sunk down in the middle and the springs were pushing into her back. With us both on there we layed awake all night just so the kids could sleep and we waited for daylight so we could get the hell out of there! It's alright. The check in staff are friendly and the little black pug they had with them was ADORABLE and so sweet!

The room itself needs a little help. Our TV wasn't plugged in so we plugged it in along with our fridge. The remote to the tv itself was missing but the cable remote was there, slightly inconvenient when you wanted to turn down the volume or turn the TV off; especially when you're about to fall asleep because you have to get up and physically turn it off.

As soon as we had opened our door to our room the thick scent of Pinesol assaulted our nose. We had to leave our door and window open to air it out. I would like to suggest that they use a different product that maybe has a lighter and floral scent.

The shower was missing grout and caulking was haphazardly running up the seam in the corner of the shower. Tile was cracked. Shower head needs lime and hard water removed to function better. Headboard had a pretty sizeable scratch in it (from some other previous visitor I'm sure), we noticed that they're replacing some furniture in their motel rooms so that's really nice to see.

No hair found in the room from previous guest so that's a huge plus. No bugs, no rodents. Bed is very comfortable. Plenty of light in the room. High window so you don't feel like some weirdo will randomly crawl into your room (I'm paranoid about stuff like that). Was surprised to see a safe in the room! They offer a continental breakfast.

Overall the price was very reasonable. Yes there are things that can be improved on but overall we enjoyed our stay. We were in room 151 which is all the way in the back, nice and quiet. This motel is located in the middle of Ruidoso and Ruidoso Downs. Not too far from a couple of casinos.

Take a trip to the Apple Barn in Cloudcroft or go visit the wineries and pistachio farms in Alamogordo. We did both in one day, so if you're up for it do both! We also visit all the little shops in Ruidoso. I love the year around Christmas shop 😍 and our fave place to eat is the Rio Grande Tap House (Get the PB&J Burger).

The motel is in a pretty convenient location. Great for anyone...
