EDITED REVIEW (read below, get a snack, this is long):
Tonight, Bernard the AGM of the hotel called me and apologized for the incident below. He was extremely kind and understanding of my situation and explained that there are technical issues where the number of rooms available is different between the website and the front desk.
Bernard was a consummate professional but also very friendly. He offered several solutions, and I appreciated the time and effort he took to try and make a bad situation better. I'm still relocating but now it is out of convenience rather than anger. I'm grateful for the kindness—I needed it, especially after having a very bad day today. I left that review while angry, and if I can give other customers advice, if you have an incident of poor customer service, sit with it for a bit before you go off online. Sometimes it really is just a misunderstanding and you'll see it clearer after you stew for a bit.
NOW FOR THE OTHER STUFF. This hotel is very nice, Clean, bright, spacious and comfortable. The rooms are well-appointed and I like how despite being directly next to the highway, I can barely hear the traffic except as a comforting hum. The beds are clean and comfortable and the bathroom and shower are spacious. I am in a suite and I really appreciate being able to cook for myself in a proper kitchen. Staff have been friendly. Elevators are a little scary but that might just be me. Location is aces, you're right next to 80 and 5, and Walmart, Target, Raley's, and Safeway, plus a myriad restaurants, are within a few minutes' drive. There are EV charging stations and disabled parking close to the door. The free breakfast is pretty good.
All in all, this is one of the better hotels in the Sacramento area, and more affordable than anything downtown. Having spoken to Bernard and hearing him out as he explained the situation, I would stay here again. I don't have much cause to be in Sacramento, but if I did have to come back I would look here for availability first.
Thank you, Bernard. You are very good at your job and probably not paid nearly enough.
I'm going to leave this up so people can see how effective good customer service is. From my original review: I am in Sacramento because my father died suddenly on Valentine's Day, 2024. I had to make an unexpected, 3000 mile trip from the east coast to California to handle his affairs. I am an only child and I am doing this alone with very little family support. I'm stressed, traumatized, and grieving.
As it turns out, a few days isn't long enough to close the curtain on someone's life. I needed to extend my stay by three days, and when I asked if I could the woman at the front desk told me to just book the stay and they'd keep me in the same room. My current reservation ends on the 21st, so needed to book from February 21-24. Somehow, between the time I spoke to her and the time I got upstairs to book the room, the hotel "magically" sold out of any rooms on the 21st alone. I went to talk to the front desk again, and she offered to put me in a different room, a regular king—for over $200 more than I would have paid for the same room, had it not mysteriously disappeared in fifteen minutes. I am operating on a tight budget and a GoFundMe, so I can't afford to throw another $600 at a hotel when I also have to spend $2000 cremating my father, on my birthday, later this week.
I booked another hotel for those extra days, and as soon as my stay here is complete I will relocate.

Read moreWe stayed here twice this spring and had two very different experiences. The first time, I used my Bonvoy rewards because we were traveling for a funeral on short notice. I selected a wellness room because my daughters and I have mold related illnesses and were concerned about staying in a hotel in general. The wellness suite at 212 was not very “well.” The entire room filled with the smell of mildew when you turned on a bathroom faucet. The shower drains into a large metal grate on the floor, which was loose. The drywall tape was pulling off the ceiling and behind the shower head likely due to the lack of an effective exhaust vent in the bathroom. One day we returned to our room and found a letter from the hotel stating that the carpets were going to be cleaned the next day and we would have to vacate the room from 9am-5pm. This really should have been disclosed at the time of booking and was not great timing for us, since we are from out of state. Not only that, we had to pack up all of our belongings and clear off the surfaces of the carpet and couch. When we returned that evening, it did not appear to have been cleaned. Our room was cleaned two times in seven nights. But the front desk staff was exceptional and we loved the filtered water dispenser in the room, the dining area, and the location of the property. So when we had to return to Sacramento later that month, to help clean out my parent’s house, we decided to stay at the Element again. This time the stay was virtually perfect until the end. The staff is lovely. The location is perfect. It’s great for an extended stay. Our second room was 216 if memory serves and the room was vastly better. We had no problems with mildew or moisture in that room at all. However, our room was not serviced once. We had to go down to get towels and coffee every day. It wasn’t terrible, since we were leaving and coming back daily. However on day 5, we went to get coffee and they had none. There were no coffee packets at all. The next two days, the staff had no resolution. We went to the nearby target (one of the best perks of the property) and bought cold brew. We couldn’t even buy regular coffee grounds because the property uses those tiny single cup filter pack machines that only work with a round filter pack. More of an annoyance than anything, but I don’t think I’ve ever encountered that at a Marriott property. So, I wouldn’t say “don’t stay here.” But after 14 nights in a month, I’m hesitant to totally recommend it either. I think some issues need to be sorted out. And I really disliked being put in a lower quality room when we used reward nights but a nicer room when...
Read moreExcellent experience staying at the Element hotel in Sacramento! Very clean and well-kept facilities and staff is an outstanding example of hospitality services. Good value, nice facilities which include a well taken care of pool (no spa jacuzzi), awesome fitness gym, outdoor indoor workspaces, dog friendly walking areas for service animals and pets in general. Element is a newer hotel and so far I give it 5- Stars! Everything was overall great! Everyday there was a nice selection of breakfast included, Jose cooking in the morning has great enthusiasm and hospitality skills! Beds are extremely Westin Heavenly comfortable, nice bath body wash/shampoo, clean smelling towels. Visible security checking the parking lot often. Carts to bring your luggage up and down from your room are available. Work desk and comfortable chair. There is a very small round side table for one person to eat meals. However in my opinion the room could use a little larger table for eating since there’s a kitchen, at least for 2 persons with chairs would be ideal. Clean good water flow shower (no tub in my room) Well equipped full kitchen in room and bbq areas outdoor provide options for cooking and eating. A small convenience snack, food, ice cream and drink store is in the lobby. Plenty of seating choices indoor and outdoor, plus two fire pits to sit around at night. Friendly and attentive Management (Oksana) went above and beyond including service interactions with overall facility operations (Richard) / FD (Rami,Desiree) and housekeeping facilities staff. My choice of stay at Element was because my service animal needed to go to nearby UC Davis Vet Hospital for a surgery and while there I received additional unexpectedly bad news that he has CKD which will require future visits to UC Davis Vet. It was nice to have a a relaxing environment with good amenities away from home. GM Oksana and majority of staff were so nice and inquired about how my dog was healing and feeling throughout my stay and after we returned home. We discovered a billing issue which was eventually resolved by regional management. We will likely stay there again because of the overall favorable and accommodating...
