When booking this hotel, I was excited because of the waterside in the pool area. I was on a work trip and my husband and son were able to join me this year. Once we arrived we waited for about 15 minutes before anyone was at the front desk. The gal who checked us in was kind and apologized for the long wait. We entered the room and set our items down and started to put items in drawers. The first drawer my son opened, there were three used condom packages. He picked them up and asked what is this? I was disappointed for him to find them. After we returned to get dinner we went swimming. When we entered the pool we noticed how rundown the pool was. There were tiles missing though out the pool and when kids would go down the slide it was loose on the left side facing the slide. Not too long of being in the pool, my sons face turned really red and my husband started to have a hard time breathing. My throat started to become sore. I use to manage a community pool and knew that the chlorine was too high. I told my family we need to exit the pool immediately. We had been exposed to chlorine poising. Once we got back to the room my son complained of feeling nauseas, he was red all over and very warm to the touch. He complained of blurry vision and burning. My husband who has asthma started to have an attack. I have a friend who is a local ER doctor in Salina and he instructed me what to do. Upon check out, I wanted at the front desk as a gal in the back was on the handheld set and her cell phone. I am not sure whom she was speaking with but shared that I could just leave. I shared that I would like to talk with someone about my experiences. She rudely rolled her eyes and while she had the phone up to her ear said what was your problem. I shared my concern about the levels of chlorine and how we had been poisoned. She responded quickly that we follow the state laws and check our levels daily. I responded with more detail of our experience with my husband, son and myself. She came back with we follow the rules so I think you are incorrect. I could tell that she was not worried or concerned about what had happened. I shared with her about the condom wrappers and she said oh I’ll let housekeeping know but we clean our rooms. I left in a frustrated mood. My concern is and was not taken seriously. She clearly had no idea of the sever risk she brushed off. My husband is still having a hard time controlling his asthma and will be seeing our doctor tomorrow. Something needs to be...
Read moreAlthough I’ve had very positive experiences with Best Western Plus at other locations, my stay at the Best Western Plus in Salina, KS was the worst customer service experience that I have ever had in my over 25-years as a business traveler. I arrived late with my family of 5 (I called earlier to advise that we would be in late). Check-in was uneventful albeit Ron at the front desk was annoyed that we arrived late, I guess we interrupted him in the middle of his sandwich. We saw that our room was not the double queen suite with couch that I had reserved in order to accommodate my family of 5. When I asked Ron to rectify the situation, he was completely rude, unsympathetic, and unaccommodating. We asked to pay for an additional room so that one of us wouldn’t be sleeping on the floor. Ron couldn’t be bothered, so he curtly advised that there were no rooms available and that we would not be getting a refund if we chose to go elsewhere. A quick check of Best Western’s website showed that there were indeed rooms. Ron stated that the mistake on the reservation was mine and too bad, so sad, deal with it. I made my reservation with Vicky on 6/9 and she confirmed the room that I booked (their highest room rate) included a couch to accommodate our 5th family member. He stated that two emails were sent to me, neither of which I received. In fact, I called Vicky back (she was great to deal with) to get my res# over the phone since I had not received any emails. I showed Ron my entire list of all emails from the 9th, and nothing from BWP... his reply was that he deletes his emails so obviously I deleted mine. Ron’s demeanor and horrible customer service skills have cost this establishment a customer and I made no bones about letting him know what I felt bout his pr!ckish behavior. To his employer, I would suggest that there are other customers whom you have lost due to this employee and his miserable demeanor. I would also suggest that you check your vacancies for 6/22/18... if, as I suspect, you had rooms available, Ron is taking money out of your pocket because he couldn’t be bothered to book you additional revenue. Sincerely, Bob Maze. Res#...
Read moreBooked a four day, three night stay, specifically reserving a handicap accessible room, as I am a disabled Veteran. We also needed a dog friendly hotel, and this was one of the few spots that offered both. When we arrived we were told there were no handicap rooms available, despite the fact that we clearly reserved one days prior.
The parking lot was well lit, and fairly easy to get in and out of. But only had three total handicap spots, which wasn't enough for a hotel.
Breakfast was small, but it was still a good spread with lots of options. I appreciated the lemon water and iced tea offered all day.
The room we got was pretty bad. Immediately hot with a strong musty / mildew scent as we walked in, which never improved. And it also smelled like it was a previous smoking room. The curtains would not shut all the way, allowing both light to pour in from the sun and exterior lighting. And being on the first floor, I'm sure the nice people of Salina got to see more than they wanted too. The curtains also blocked the air return on the AC, so unless we stuffed the curtains into the window frame and blocked it with random heavy objects, the air flow would be blocked.
The bathroom door, when shut completely, could not be opened back up from the inside. The toilet had a faulty wax seal, as water would seep up and out of the bolt assembly, and onto the floor. The shower head could not be adjusted. There was black mold along the top of the shower stall along the caulking seal (probably be cause there's no exhaust fan.)
We didn't have much choice in the matter, and were never contacted or notified about any other handicap rooms becoming available. I made it work, but it wasn't comfortable or hygienic in the slightest.
For the most part the staff were courteous and pleasant to talk too.
That being said it's hard to recommend this hotel to stay, and we will most likely never come back - especially considering we couldn't use the handicapped room that we...
