I booked a two queen room several weeks in advance of my stay and the need for two beds was non negotiable due to traveling with my husband, my teenage daughter and my best friend’s teenage son. Upon arriving to this Candlewood hotel, the front entrance was dark and the front door was locked with a note to go around back due to major construction. The construction should be noted so anyone considering staying here is aware prior to booking. But, my main issue was with check in and the room. I booked a two queen room and at check in, I was informed my two queen room was in fact a one queen room with a pullout couch. This hotel does not actually have any true two queen rooms even though they allow you to book them. I was told the manager called me to notify me of this and upon checking my messages, she called me on the same day of check in around noon to notify me of this. This is absolutely unacceptable and very poor business. This hotel should not allow people to book two queen rooms if they don’t have them. Calling me to notify me on the day of check in doesn’t allow me time to make other arrangements. My daughter ended up sleeping in a chair that night. I am extremely dissatisfied and feel like I was tricked into using my points at this hotel when I could have stayed somewhere that would have actually met the needs...
Read moreThe hotel is okay if you are planning to stay for more than three days. I believe most people who look for hotels in Salinas come for work, it doesn’t seem to be a place for leisure, as there is literally nothing to do around.
This property is convenient for business travelers because the rooms have a small kitchen, which allows you to cook instead of always eating out. For someone like me, who travels constantly, that is a big plus. However, breakfast is not included, which is a disadvantage for those who prefer not to cook.
The room itself is spacious and comfortable, but the hotel overall feels old. The gym is very small, and the service leaves much to be desired. During my six-day stay, I never received housekeeping, which is a significant downside (since pandemic this is a perfect excuse for all hotels to not offer housekeeping! 😡… but in some hotels they do it every other day!)
There are pros and cons: the room is large and having a kitchen is very helpful, but the service is poor. Also, the TV is not a smart TV, only standard cable. Laundry is free which is a big pro!!
In summary, this hotel works if you’re in Salinas for work and need a place where you can prepare your own meals, but don’t expect great service or...
Read moreWas not a good stay. There for business for 1 night, corporate paid for room in advance. I decided to stay an additional night due to the lateness of event a few days before I left for the trip. I called the hotel and made arrangements to pay for the second night on my personal credit card. Once I arrived I had the clerk double check that the company would only be charged for one night and the second would be put on my personal bill. They said no problem, printed out the receipt and everything. Stayed the additional night after the meeting ended late like I thought it would, went to check out and they had billed the company credit card for two nights and had charged my card for 1 night as well. Brought that to the attention of the desk clerk and she said it was the night shifts fault that she didn't do billing. She wasted about 30 minutes of my time while she tried figuring it out. Even read the "notes" that said only one night would be charged to each card. I had to call the corporate office and explain why they were charged an additional night...lots of fun there.. the hallway stunk very badly like burnt fish, the AC unit woke me up at 1 am when it kicked on and sounded like a small lawnmower..too close to the highway...
