Our vehicle was towed to conklin salina for major repairs needed that happened at no fault of our own. Conklin was the closest GM dealer to where our vehicles engine blew up. We are from st. Louis, so towing it to Conklin was our only option. The vehicle was dropped off after hours, and my husband was present with the tow truck driver for drop off at thier facility. Conklin called informing us what the issues were with our vehicle. We were told it was going to be months before a new engine would arrive and be installed, which was frustrating but understandable. Knowing the engine was being replaced and why it was being replaced, we requested to have two parts replaced as well, knowing they MUST be replaced to ensure no metal flakes/fragments are present that could cause the same issue again once the new motor would be installed. The 2 parts in question are in GMs standard protocol to be replaced along with the motor. We had a GM dealer in st louis print off the standard protocol for engine replacement in our vehicle that states these 2 parts NEED to be replaced along with the motor. Not only did conklin completely disregard GM protocols and our request, they installed the new engine then called to inform us the engine had been installed and when we asked about the parts getting replaced as well they told us they did NOT replace them and if we wanted them replaced we would have to pay for those parts. The vehilce was completely under warranty, so that was a false statement on their end. At that point we specifically instructed them to ABSOLUTLY NOT START THE VEHICLE UNTIL THOSE PARTS WERE REPLACED. We called GM customer service immediately and informed them of what was going on at Conklin, we were told they would address the situation immediately. Conklin called the next morning stating they WILL be replacing the 2 parts now, and that they started the vehicle and the motor runs good (2 parts not installed yet) meaning they specifically did what we instructed them not to do, NOT TO START THAT VEHICLE UNTIL THE PARTS GET REPLACED. Yet again, Conklin blew us off and did what they wanted and started the vehicle before installing the other 2 parts. Once our vehicle was finished with both parts replaced, we informed Conklin we were flying out to pick up the vehicle and it would be after 10pm when we would arrive, at that point we would be driving the vehicle back home to stl. Upon our arrival to Conklin, not only was the rear view just dangling from the windshield, there was absolutly not a single drop of oil on the dipstick and one of the front cameras was broken. Again, it was late there was no where open to purchase oil, we have a non functional rear view mirror that is hitting the windshield while driving because it's dangling from wires and our front camera is broken with a 420 mile drive home. There was absolutely nothing aestically wrong with our vehicle when it was dropped off on their property. Nothing, we just purchased the vehicle 8 days prior. I emailed Conklin right away before we left with the vehicle and we checked the dipstick in conklins parking lot so any security cameras have video of us checking the oil on their property. Conklin called 2 days later to claim that we were informed the mirror and the front camera were broken, which was a complete fabrication. We have kept all email conversations and throughout the many, many phone conversations and emails with conklin NOT ONCE we're we ever informed of the damages that were done to our vehicle while in their possession. If we had been informed, we wouldn't have written an irate email stating how frustrating and upset we were upon seeing the damages to our vehicle. How ever Conklin decided to inform us of a parts that "must have been broken when the last dealership installed the old motor" and that they wont fix them because their mechanics didn't break them. The previous engine replacement done under prior ownership of the vehicle was replaced at another GM dealer. Its apparent Conklin will do anything to place blame elsewhere. Do not take you...
Read moreConklin Chevy saved the day for us. We were returning to Virginia after a cross country trip pulling our large and heavy fifth wheel with our 2022 Silverado 3500 HD dually.
Not long after leaving the campground the check engine light came on. I checked with the dealership in VA where I bought the truck and found out that I could continue to drive the truck if the check engine was NOT flashing and the truck did not go into limp mode. The Service Rep in VA strongly suggested we find a dealership and get it fixed as soon as possible.
Salina was the closest place so we looked for a Chevy dealer there. Thankfully we found Conklin Chevy of the Conklin Automotive group. We called them and they got us an appointment the next day.
We explained that we would have our camper. They graciously allowed us to store the camper in their back lot while they looked at the truck. Andrew the service writer was extremely knowledgeable and professional! He explained the whole process to us including diagnostics, factory warranty and extended warranty coverage and costs.
The truck was taken in expeditiously and the technician went to work diagnosing the problem. He was in contact with GM to verify what he was seeing as he had never seen it before. Andrew kept us informed of the whole process.
The staff offered to take us anywhere nearby for lunch. We declined and instead waited to see what was going to happen with the truck. A hostess offered to bring us snacks and drinks if we desired.
When the diagnosis was made and confirmed by GM it was discovered that the necessary part(s) was not in stock. The Parts Deoartment ordered what we needed and had it expedited. Again, Andrew briefed us and kept us abreast of exactly what was happening.
It was determined that our truck was just out of the 36,000 mile warranty. Thankfully we have an extended warranty. Andrew took the information , contacted the extended warranty company and processed the claim for us. Andrew after speaking with the tech working on the truck said he hoped to have us back on the road by 12 the next day.
We got a hotel next to the dealership and slept in. We received a call from Andrew about 8:30 in the morning saying the truck was done! Apparently the tech had prepared the truck as much as he could before he got the part. When the part was received all he had to do was install it and...
Read moreI bought my car from Conklin and I've takin it in for service there a couple of times and was always happy. However, after yesterday I will NEVER go to the Salina service center again!!! I had just bought tires for my car a week ago, so I took it to Conklin for an alignment and I also had them replace spark plugs and belt while I was there. When I picked up my vehicle I didn't even make it out of the driveway before my stability control light and abs light came on. So they said they would check it out for me, and then told me that my wheel bearing had went out and it was nothing they had done and it would be $330+ to fix. Well being that I had an unexpected expense early this week and that I had just paid them $300 for alignment/tune up, I didn't have enough to pay more. I was already pretty upset since my car drove fine when I got there. There wasn't any warning that bearing was going bad or grinding noise ,and I had another place check it all out when I had tires put on! I asked him if it was ok to drive it home and I'd be able to get work done next week and he assured me "it would be just fine". I get back in my car and didn't even go 20 feet before my car was jerking all over and the anti lock brakes were going crazy so I parked it. He came out cause he seen it and suddenly remembered that the sensor in the bearing would make it do that. I'll admit by that time I was angry and had lost my patients with this guy, and I'm still upset about the whole ordeal. It was fine when I drove it there and now it's not? I can't prove it, but I wouldn't be surprised if the mechanic hadn't damaged the sensor wire on accident or maybe even on purpose! The service manager finally told me that if I could pay for the part he wouldn't charge me for labor so it would cost $130. I live about an hour away and had nobody close enough to help me so I had no other option but use the last few dollars I had to fix it! I will never go back there and my husband has changed his mind about trading his truck in for a newer vehicle there as well! I'd give a no star rating if that...
