I was traveling for an event with Fire & Iron Motorcycle Club. Fire & Iron is a motorcycle club made up of firefighters and other first responders and emergency personnel. My wife and I stayed in room 315 at the Country Inn and Suites in Salina, KS, from November 17th to 19th. Our experience was deeply disappointing due to several issues. The room's cleanliness was below standard, with hair in the bathtub and on towels, and various areas had stains and filth, including around the bathroom door and on the ceiling fan. The couch was damaged with melted iron marks, and the refrigerator was malfunctioning.
Essential amenities like the room phones were completely non-operational, posing a safety hazard. Despite promises, the TV in the bedroom remained non-functional throughout our stay, and the staff offered no resolution.
Both key cards for our room were wrongly deactivated after the first day, leading to inconvenience. The staff misattributed this to potential demagnetization due to proximity to a cell phone, but it was clear they were only keyed for a single day.
During check-in, my MasterCard was incorrectly reported as declined, despite no issues from my bank, a problem also faced by others in my party and a stranger. The staff failed to acknowledge or apologize for this apparent system issue.
On departure, the hotel clerk/manager offered no acknowledgment or goodbye, despite walking through our group in the lobby. This and behaviors made us feel like an inconvenience rather than guests.
A particularly disturbing incident occurred during our stay, involving an employee and a child. This employee, identifiable by her unrestricted access to staff areas, was seen mishandling a young child in the hotel's hallway. She was observed gripping the child tightly by the upper arm and yanking them around, displaying a concerning level of physical force. Additionally, her attire, consisting of a t-shirt and pajama pants, along with her informal interactions with the front desk staff, strongly suggested she was an employee. This incident not only raises serious concerns about the child's welfare but also about the hotel's environment and management of its staff. Witnessing such behavior was distressing and further detracted from our overall experience at the hotel.
Both the hot tub and pool, key reasons for choosing this hotel, were closed, with no prior notification on the website. This was particularly disappointing as the facilities were a major draw for us.
Other guests in my party reported similar issues, including dirty beds and refrigerators containing previous guests' food.
As the road captain and treasurer for Fire & Iron Motorcycle Club in Lincoln, KS, I ofter organize lodging for our events. Salina has been a central meeting point for our club, which boasts over 100 members in Kansas alone and many more in the region. We frequently hold events here, including, toy runs, and meetings. Given this experience, I regret to say that we will not be using this venue for any future events.
Overall, this stay at Country Inn and Suites was marred by poor maintenance, cleanliness, and a lack of professionalism from the staff. I cannot recommend this hotel and hope that these issues are promptly addressed for...
Read moreWe stayed for one night in a 1 bedroom suite. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We used the pull out couch bed and needed blankets for it. These were received promptly.
The room was clean. A bit dated, and a bit updated. I liked the bed headboard, which had outlets and USB ports built in. The dresser and night stands were from the 90's. I don't really mind this at all as long as they work. One night stand table's drawer handle was broken off. I didn't use it, so it didn't bother me. I did use the dressers, though and all those drawers worked well. Honestly, a lot of the more updated furniture I've encountered in hotels is so cheaply made (which means it is difficult to use) that I'd rather have the older stuff.
My room had two televisions in the bedroom and one in the sitting area. I'm not sure why there were two (sitting so close together that one had to be a little behind the other) in the bedroom and I did not use either.
The room also had a small fridge, microwave and I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a small sink in the "kitchen area", too. We did not use these.
The comfort of the bed was ok, however, there was a loud humming noise that made it difficult to sleep. This was on top of the traffic noise as the highway was close. The humming sounded like it was an outdoor air conditioner right outside my window, though I doubt the air was on and I didn't see any such item.
The windows opened, which I always enjoy, but they are pretty cheap, which is what causes (or at least part of what causes) the outside noise to be so loud in the room.
The morning staff, again, was very friendly. We ate their hot breakfast. I really enjoyed that they have a mini waffle maker. So, you can have one, two, three or four small waffles (all cooked at the same time). Those big waffles are just too much.
Considering that the most important part of our stay was to sleep and I got hardly any due to the noise, I have to give...
Read moreWe stayed for three nights while visiting family in the area and it wasn’t exactly a pleasant stay. Unfortunately, the ground floor room we were put in had a moldy musty smell that came from the AC unit by the window, in the bedroom right next to the bed. The smell was so overwhelming that we had to turn it off halfway during the night and sleep with it hotter than we desired. I ended up using my inhaler due to the poor indoor pollution that the AC unit was contributing to. The management was exceedingly kind and moved us to another room the next day. I was grateful for them doing this for us, but the room we were moved into was just a little bit better, but not by much. And I didn’t have the heart to say so to the management again. I felt like they were doing all they could, and they were terribly busy because a few days before our stay a bad windstorm blew into town and caused some damage to the property with fallen trees. The pool and laundry room were closed for maintenance. So, we endured the moldy smell that was only slightly better than the other room. It became clear to me that most likely all the rooms were probably dealing with this moldy musty smell which is a red flag for people with allergies and sensitivity to mold. By the end of our stay, I had puffy eyes and congestion and a sore throat and had taken Benadryl and used the inhaler several times. While all of this was going on, I did learn that the hotel had recently changed ownership and management and that changes were afoot. This sounded very promising to me. So, new management, if you are listening, please mitigate the mold in the AC ducts and ventilation and get rid of the old carpet that is most likely harboring...
