The Heritage Inn was a cheap motel that we booked for a 3-night stay while our house was being tent fumigated so we weren't looking for anything fancy, just an inexpensive place to hang out until we could go home. Overall the stay was fine, but as other reviews have stated, you get what you pay for.
Pros: For $70/night, the Heritage Inn experience was mostly as expected. A small room with 2 queen beds, functioning A/C, a 32" TV, a mini-fridge, and wi-fi that worked (slowly) most of the time. The ice machine was close by, the shower pressure was good, and the bedding felt clean. I was half-expecting to be charged some extra fees upon checkout, but was delighted to pay and leave with no hiccups.
Cons: The first thing we noticed was that the sink faucet had almost no pressure and it was leaking onto the carpet below. The toilet clogged almost immediately and we found (what looked like) a little bit of poop on the rim of the tub. We talked to the office and they sent someone to fix these issues within the hour. The wi-fi was spotty (almost not working at all the first day), and we were told that the wi-fi signal isn't guaranteed. I'm not sure I could expect much more, but I booked this motel over another because of the free wi-fi, so that was a little bit of a bummer. The next few days the wi-fi was really slow, but was less spotty. If I was on a business trip and needed to do work over wi-fi I would have been out of luck. The location is right next to the freeway so there was a constant drone of speedy traffic all day and night, but we eventually got used to it so it wasn't really an issue. But being so close to the freeway meant that there were all kinds of interesting people hanging out in the parking lot. I did have mild anxiety about my car getting broken into, but never had an issue. The carpet in the room felt almost...wet in a weird way. I spent most of the stay purposely wearing a pair of socks so I didn't have to walk on the carpet barefoot. It wasn't actually wet, but it felt oddly dirty, like it hadn't been cleaned in a decade. The guests next door spent one of the days/nights blasting music, stomping around, screaming and laughing. It was loud, but to be honest I was kind of happy they were having such a good time. I could see how this would be untenable for someone else, but it was kind of fun guessing how many people were in that one room and what kind of party it was. I might have contacted the office if this were a fancier motel, but the raucous didn't feel out of place for the Heritage Inn. The staff at the Heritage in seemed apathetic and uninterested in providing any kind of customer service, so interactions were always a bit awkward. However, due to the pandemic they were wearing masks and everyone who came to the check-in window wore masks, so with the addition of a pane of glass separating me from the staff it made communicating very difficult. I had to speak loudly, repeat myself, and ask them to repeat themselves a number of times, which seemed to annoy them. Perhaps on a normal day they would have been in better moods, but while I was there they seemed kind of exhausted and done with everyone.
Overall: Like I said, we got what we paid for. The stay wasn't exactly comfortable, but I think I was mostly expecting that. I would recommend this place to anyone who is fine navigating some less-than-ideal conditions, but not to anyone expecting a flawless experience. I'm might hesitate stay here again, but it's cheaper than any Airbnbs I could find...
Read moreThis isn’t even a 1 star hotel, but they charge as much as a 4 star downtown. If I could give this place negative stars, I would. We stayed last month out of desperation as all other hotels that allowed pets were booked. We should have slept in our car instead. The staff was so rude (2 out of 3 of the front desk agents) and ineffective. They quoted us a rate and said we could check in early (about 1:30 pm). Instead we had to wait until after 4 pm for our room to be “cleaned “. The front desk was rude, not apologetic, and then tried to charge a higher rate. The carpet was so dirty that in no time our white socks were black. The toilet backed up and overflowed and no maintenance person came to the room at all. When I went to the office several hours later, she commented that “well I guess he isn’t going to show” and sent their “security guy and his friend “ to take pictures of the backed up toilet (gross). The security guy told me stories of the violence and drug problems they have nightly and even referred to the back parking lot as “crack alley”. After presenting the night desk clerk proof of the mess, she finally moved us to another room. The second room was smaller and had cockroaches everywhere. We had to keep our shoes on. When I informed the office of the infestation in the morning , after they tried to hike up the rate, they said they were about to call the cops and have us escorted from the property because it was an hour past checkout even though I informed them of our possible length of stay from day 1 and also confirmed with the night clerk we would be staying on for another night when she moved our room because of the toilet. They said that if we checked out right then, it would be a 50% charge for staying late. After agreeing to stay despite the problems (there just weren’t any other vacancies) they had me sign a new contract after rudely informing me that they don’t keep the credit card numbers on file (which was why we were now trespassing) because that would be a rip off and ill advised for any customer to let a hotel keep a card on file even though the 4 and 5 star hotels we stay at always keep our card on file for incidental charges. So I asked this rude lady if the cockroaches were extra or just a bonus. Her response was that “cockroaches have been around since the dinosaurs and that every property in town was infested.” I told her we lived in San Diego for years and had never seen one at any other property. She continued to argue with me and then she said we had to get out for a few hours so they could fumigate but that would’ve been a huge inconvenience for several reasons: we had 2 dogs to worry about and I already had to switch rooms by myself the previous night due to the toilet. I have been in customer service for over 20 years and have never in my life met staff that was so rude, inefficient and ineffective. I would never recommend this place even to my worst enemy. DO NOT STAY HERE!! Or, STAY AT...
Read moreCame to San Diego for a family trip, so we saw heritage was close to beach and a good price. But when we got there we did not expect for it too look like such a dump! We couldn’t get a refunded cause none refundable on top of that there is a mandatory $100 deposit. Now I wouldn’t mind paying that if the rooms were at least decent. Before we got into our room it took an hour just to check us in. They were not ready for us. Check in is at three check out is 11. Idk how they didn’t even have rooms ready for us. When we finally get too the room that’s non smoking ! Clearly posted every where throughout the hotel. The room smelled so bad like moldy and cigarettes. There was no microwave in the room just a fridge and coffee maker. Only one microwave in the lobby with a few vending machines. On top of that we didn’t even want to walk in the room barefoot that carpet felt so gross like it hadn’t been cleaned in a decade. When my niece dropped her water bottle I grabbed a towel to dry up the water and when I lifted the towel it was black from all the dirt. Restroom bars and doors were really rusty. The shower was nice too look at but when you got inside felt like you were going to fall thru the floor it was sooo creeeky !! WiFI also doesn’t work unless you are next to the pool because that’s were the router is so the front desk woman told me when I called also the phones don’t work in the rooms I had to call from my cell phone. I didn’t bother checking, I work from home so I just turned on my hotspot! Towards the evening Like at 9 I called the front desk to request two more pillows, there was only two in the room mind you I put that when we reserved the room how many people where with us and kids. They couldn’t even give us enough pillows, when I called she said all house keeping was gone for the day and there was nothing she could do. Also this is not a good location I notice there was a lot of drug users who stay at this hotel as well. Towards bedtime, we kept hearing yelling and it was a man trying to break into one of the rooms, security was there that made me feel better. But I don’t think this is a place you want to bring your family, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. Spend your hard working money...
