I have lived in San Diego for 8+ years now, a transplant from the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia. I gave up years ago trying to find a solid cheesesteak out here, because no one got it. No one could capture even a fracture of the essence of a Philly cheesesteak. (A real one, not that P or G malarkey!) I can no longer say that. Evan has shown me the glorious light of what someone can accomplish if they have extreme attention to detail, and an incredible passion for food, and more importantly for sandwiches. Let's start with the roll, the bread, the foundation. So incredibly important, and if you're going to do a cheesesteak justice, it's Amoroso's. I sat here and told my girlfriend, no way he has the rolls right. . . PERFECTION, absolutely nailed it. Then let's get to the meat of the issue, the meat! Evan stepped it up with the quality of meat here, and I think it sets him apart and, may even catapult him above some of my favorite places in Philly. (It did!) Not only that, but he takes the time to get the chop right, so the glorious American cheese melts in and forms a magic bond of deliciousness. The dice on the onion brings about the trifecta of flavor, a true masterpiece. Did I mention he has beer brewed for him using time honored techniques from one of, in my opinion, one of the better brewery areas in California, Anaheim? Yup, that too. Garlic fries and onion rings too. Just top notch attention to detail, start to finish. I've already had a birthday catered and it was flawless. Cold subs and killer salads for 30 people like it was nothing. This place is now in my regular rotation, and the only place for cheesesteaks in San Diego. Thank you Evan for your vigilance in protecting, sorry UPLIFTING the sacred art that is sandwiches, and for a boy from Philly, my beloved cheesesteaks.

Was in the area early in the morning to help my son in law. We got hungry and started to look for a place to eat. We stumbled upon Evan's Deli & Brew. The door was open and the open sign was on. We went inside and ordered. I picked the turkey avocado on sourdough and my daughter picked the meatball sub. We ordered a side of garlic fries as well. We chose to sit outside. As we sat down, we noticed the sticker on the window that said open at 10am. We felt bad because it wasn't even 9:30 am yet. When the very nice gentleman brought our order to us, we apologized. He said that it is no big deal and that he was happy to help us out. We began to eat our food. The turkey sandwich was fresh and the turkey was very juicy and tender. The meatball sub was delicious, the cheese was melted and the cheese pull my daughter got on her first bite made her smile. The marinara sauce was very flavorful. The garlic fries were cooked perfectly. Every fry was crispy and well seasoned. The garlic flavor on the fries carried on in the whole basket. We were not disappointed. The food was freash. Even though this establishment was not open for service yet, they still took us in as a customer and did not ask us to wait till they opened. The gentleman and his wife are very nice and friendly. Evan's has gained our business for sure. Can't wait to come back with the wife so she can enjoy this wonderful food. Thanks for the hospitality and great food.

Evan's deli and Brew took over the space that used to house Gaglione Brothers. I was a big fan of Gags for the longest time, however, I stopped going quite as much as the quality started going down after COVID-19 hit and prices and ingredients started to become an issue. I can honestly say that Evan really turn things around. He has a similar sandwich to my favorite one gags and has a lot of other very similar items. He's also added a lot of other deli sandwiches and six brews on tap. I'm not much one for the brews as I usually drive right afterwards. There's only a selection of an 8-in or 12-in sandwich, which I'm actually happier with instead of the three different sizes. There's a couple of other things that have changed but that's not a problem. The food taste really good. The atmosphere is still really good and simple and if you haven't been here lately I highly suggest coming back! This evening I enjoyed "The Philly" (which is similar to "the works") and some garlic fries, with a fountain drink. I am super excited that the food quality is back up as I've been missing the Phillies for a while, but I didn't want to sync my teeth into a bunch of gristle. Thanks Evan for bringing that back for me!

“Evan’s Deli & Brew: Where the Sandwiches Are Great but Evan Is the Real Hero”

Let me tell you about Evan’s Deli & Brew—aka the Cheers of sandwich shops, where everybody knows your name… but more importantly, Evan knows your order.

This man is not just making sandwiches; he’s running a full-blown psychic deli. Walk in once and he greets you with a smile. Walk in twice and he’s already prepping your usual like some kind of sandwich Jedi. Walk in three times and you’re part of the family.

The food? Outrageously good. The kind of sandwiches that make you question everything you've ever settled for in life (yes, I’m talking to you, sad grocery store turkey wrap). The brews? Cold, crisp, and perfectly chosen—just like Evan’s sense of humor.

But seriously, the best part of Evan’s isn’t just the killer menu or cozy vibe—it’s Evan himself. Friendly, funny, fast, and somehow managing to give big-city service with small-town heart. I don’t know if he’s caffeinated, cloned, or just that passionate—but whatever it is, it’s working.

If you're not a regular yet, don't worry. After one visit, you will be. And chances are, by your second visit, Evan’s already got your order halfway made. (I get the cheeseteak with provolone ).

BTW their cheesesteaks and garlic fries are better than Gaglione Bros. From one business owner to another business owner, Evan you rock!! Seriously!!...
