We were looking for a nice hotel for a short 1 night trip during the week to downtown SD. Saw this hotel and it looked nice on the website, apparently I made a huge mistake not coming on here to check the reviews. Got a junior suite (their biggest room) on the top floor and prepaid $525 before we came down. Made our way to SD and pulled up to the hotel but there was nowhere to park for valet because cars were lined up in front of the hotel for the gym. Parked in the street to unload and the valet guy was nice, he asked if we needed a cart for our stuff and went and grabbed it so that was a good start. There's no staff for bell hops so we took it in ourselves, checked in and got our keys. Immediately noticed that the hotel was small and I didn't see staff anywhere except one person at the desk, which I thought was odd. My card was immediately charged again $100 and I wasn't told about this but I assumed it was for either the $60 valet charge or maybe incidentals? We go up to the room and it seems pretty nice at first glance. Started unloading our stuff but immediately noticed it was extremely hot in the room as the thermostat was set to 78*. Cranked it down to the lowest temperature and put the fan on high but nothing ever happened. With floor to ceiling windows and the sun blazing in, it took about 8 hours for the room to drop a few degrees even after closing the blackout curtains right away. The little kitchen area had nothing in it, bare shelves and a tiny fridge that clearly had replaced a fridge that was once there and actually fit the space designed for it. Even the fridge was warm inside. The bathroom looked nice, but the pressure in the shower was extremely low and the water didn't even get above warm. The room had a sitting area with a foldout bed in the couch and I went to check it out but as I unfolded it, I saw a bunch of long hairs on the bed and immediately said gross and closed it back up. There's also no outlets in the living room area. Aside from all this, being on the 15th floor we were directly under the rooftop bar and restaurant and from the time we got there until after midnight, you could clearly hear chairs being dragged all over the ceiling and it was extremely unacceptable when paying for a suite!! We went to the pool area and it was dirty and covered in cement and rocks from the construction going on with the building connected to this hotel and also a ton of loud banging heavy equipment noise. For dinner we decided to just DoorDash some food and the driver called us from the lobby saying they wouldn't let him come up but that they told him he could leave it with them at the front desk but he wouldn't because he said a lot of people never got their food when he's left it there so we had to go dow to the lobby to retrieve it. Finally the next morning I had my appointment in town and we came back to pack up and checkout. Went to the front desk and again noticed this place was a ghost town, l've never seen a hotel with 1 or 2 people working there in total lol. There was a worker behind the desk and some guy who I don't even think worked there also behind the desk, the worker asked how our stay was and I just said not good and the guy was just laughing and smirking at us. All in all this is a horrible hotel, overpriced, little to no staff and rude people along with being in a very douchey part of town. Do yourself a favor and find a...
Read moreCame here to spend a weekend in San Diego for the first time with my lady, we had arrived super early and went to the front desk to see if we could possibly check in. When I went to the front desk the gentleman had told me that because the night before it was so busy and they had a lot of check ins, our room was not ready, which was fine because it was about 2:50 and our check in wasn’t for 4 pm. Another gentleman had then proceeded to tell us that it isn’t ready at the moment, but it will be ready at 4 pm guaranteed, my lady and I were fine with that because we understood it takes time to clean. I work at another Hilton property in Arizona so I can totally understand. It was almost 4pm and we still had not received a call to let us know our room was ready, we called at around 4:05 pm and asked about it and the room was still not ready, the lady had told us it would be ready in another 10 mins, at this point it’s still fine because we were about 10 mins away anyways. When we arrive and get all our bags out, we go check in, but still the room was not ready, she then proceeds to tell us another 10 mins and it will be ready. We wait in the lobby until 4:30pm and at this point we’re just ready to get into our room because we had plans and other arrangements for the day. Once again we go ask if it’s ready and still, the lady tells us it isn’t ready, it will be ready in another 10 mins, at this point we’re just tired and a little upset because we’re already 30 mins past our guaranteed check in. We wouldn't have been so upset if the gentleman didn’t tell us it would be guaranteed at 4pm. We tell her it is unacceptable that our room isn’t ready yet and we keep having to wait 10 mins every 10 mins. The young lady’s other coworker proceeds to step in the conversation and tell us it isn’t Guaranteed, its just whenever the rooms are ready we will get you in, and that housekeeping is trying to clean it. The First Lady we were talking to tells us there is another room ready, but it is essentially a downgrade from ours, which we did not want because we paid for our room, not a downgrade. We wait another 10 minutes and at 4:40 she’s calling people and seeing what’s the update on our room, 4:45 and finally our room is ready, we check in and proceed to go up to our room. On our way there we literally see the cleaning lady exit our room while on the phone with someone, almost as if it wasn’t even being worked on, they just needed to hurry the process so that way we can just go in already. We walk in our room and finally get inside, at this point almost a full hour later. The lady had told us she would wave the $30 hotel fee for the night since we kept waiting, but never attempted to try and make our wait somewhat more bearable. All in all, it was very frustrating and somewhat upsetting that a room I had booked over a month in advance was not ready. I rarely have any bad experiences but honestly this one was very frustrating for us both, it almost seemed like they did not care or even try to get us accommodated quickly. You’re hotel is known for amenities and all that stuff, but never in the two days we were there, we were ever contacted or reached out too to ask about our nights. I am a Hilton honors member and I also work at a Hilton resort, so I know exactly how...
Read moreOverall: The worst hotel and travel experience I’ve had in the travel industry ever.
Pros: -Location is great as it’s close to my job. -The valet representatives were the only nice people at the hotel and only competent workers there.
Cons: -Internet - the internet barely worked when I was there. When I called down to the front desk, I received responses like “we have no clue what’s going on with the WiFi as we don’t work for the WiFi company.” 😐 -housekeeping - I was getting out the shower one day and I heard housekeeping knocking on the door. I told house keeping that I am in the room and service is not needed as there is do not disturb sign on the door. Housekeeping still decided to come in while I was getting out the shower. I told him that the sign outside the door stated no service. Housekeeping told me that the front desk asked him to see if someone is in the room. Now if I checked in the previous night why would you send someone to my room, and then open the door as I explained no service is needed. -Valet- Dealing with the front counter, again, I called down as I could not find my valet ticket. The girls at the front counter stated. “ I would have to come downstairs and physically request and wait for my car as it isn’t their fault that I lost my ticket.” Now I never said it was anyone’s fault but I didn’t understand why they couldn’t request my car by my room #/last name like all the other Hilton properties. After this spoke to valet, they couldn’t understand why the front desk couldn’t just give me the valet number or walk 15 steps to the front door to request the car. Went to speak with the girls at the counter, they explained the same thing over the phone and then told me to get away from their counter as they are helping customers. Mind you, no customers are in line, I’m a customer, and they were both of their cellphones talking about social media. I was over it at this point, went outside to speak with valet as I am waiting for my car. Gave the valet a tip and then one of the girls came outside started screaming and then the manager came outside later and told me he is locking me out the hotel. I retrieved my things and went back to staying at Marriot hotels as I am always treated with respect. My company started booking more Marriot and Hyatt reservations as other employees have complained about the service and cleanliness of rooms in general at Hilton properties. Staying at the Carte hotel was a last minute booking that was a huge mistake. -My Bill - I asked the rude manager about the charges on my bill, which were inaccurate. He said he isn’t helping me.
Conclusion: worst hotel experience, and worst trained staff ever. To top it off I was confused if the girls at the counter really worked at the front desk because normally when you stay at any Curio collection, the front desk staff have professional attire. They are not wearing jeans and random clothes. They are not speaking down to people. Do I feel racially profiled, absolutely. Do I feel like the hotel had an issue with me since day one, absolutely. Especially the random charges that were found on my receipt. Worst hotel and travel experience ever. Nothing...
