This place is badly managed and their staff is extremely unprofessional. The woman we checked in with was rude, inattentive, and overall the worst person I've had the displeasure to talk to. After reading all the negative reviews, I decided to go with the best attitude possible so that I could be treated the same but it was all for naught. It's common knowledge that hotels don't clean their linen like they're supposed to, so I always check first thing when I enter the room. Alas, the pillows smelled like sweat and I called to have them bring me new ones, just two for myself and my mom. When the housekeeper came, I gave her a tip in good faith, and imagine my horror when the pillows looked worse than the ones I had given back, one of them even had a blonde hair stuck to it( I'm a brunette!). I imagine that the housekeeper just went to get me two pillows from another room that had just been vacated. We ended up not even using the pillows. On check out day, we went to eat breakfast and came back around 10:30, and when we tried to get into our room, the keys were ineffective. Upon calling the front desk, the woman told us that this sometimes happened and that she would have to see some ID so we could go back in for our stuff. It was infuriating, considering the poor service we received and the fact that checkout time was 11! When I went down, I asked her if our keys were deactivated but she just ignored my question and she didn't even check my ID even though she was adamant about it during the phone call. This place was awful, make sure to bring your own bedding if you want to sleep in peace, and make sure your keys are activated before you make the trip up to your...
Read moreVagabond Inn is a perfectly serviceable motel in SoMa (South of Market). It is not far from the Civic Center, but it's a tad misleading to claim it's close; it's firmly in the South of Market neighborhood, just north of the 101 exit at 9th Street.
There is a Trader Joe's just a block away, and there are plenty of places to go in SoMa, including some worthwhile places on Folsom and Howard Streets. The nabe gets a little dodgy at night, if you're used to the suburbs or somewhere devoid of any adversity but, if you've ever lived in a city and you're older than 25, you should be able to deal with the occasional bum without being overcome by terror.
I had some problems with my key card(s), but the girl working in the office was quick to accommodate me and solve the issue. My room was cold at night, and they provided me with an extra blanket.
The two chairs in my room were stained and filthy, but the bed was well-kept and the linens were clean. All told, this place was nothing special, but it was not a travesty of lodging, either.
I didn't think it was terribly cheap but, relative to what hotels can charge for a night, it was ... and if cheap is your budget, this place will serve...
Read moreClean room, friendly staff, free parking good value and it’s walking distance to good restaurants (ie, Roco’s Cafe ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️great Italian food). I’ve read the other reviews, “if you’re a LITE sleeper or you’re not ready for one flight of stairs” .... go spend a lot more money someplace else but we had no issues. We did stay in a remodeled room but it was right above The Stud Bar, with a great 🤣 view of the downtown traffic, lol. In all honesty after reading the other reviews before getting here, I was expecting less than what we got. Did I say FREE PARKING in SF?! I’m really not one to sugar coat stuff. I think some people expect more for their money than a clean, dry, place to sleep. This is SF ... it’s got diversity ...financially-culturally, there’s homeless-millionaires all slammed into a hilly city with an incredible view of the Bay. Have fun and leave your judgments somewhere else. (Oh not in walking distance but if you’re looking for great Clam Chowder go to Anchor Oyster Bar⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️in the Castro $6.50 for a bowl/$3.50 a cup with a big piece of yummy sour dough bread and butter). Sorry I took pictures at the end...
