SOMArts — Attraction in San Francisco

Small arts center tucked in a corner underneath an overpass. We came here for the Hidden Cities exhibit which was in the main gallery on the right. On the left of the cultural center is a stage with seating. A bigger room to the left of that was set up with tables meant for various organizations. A few people seemed to be preparing for some event that was happening that night.

There were a few interactive installations in the Hidden Cities exhibit, including a tea station, a collaborative map of experiences, and set of walking/balancing squares. The concept of the exhibit was good, but I wasn't too impressed with the other installations or the artwork on the walls. This place might be better for their stage or...

My dad Russell Robles was the director of this spot way back in the early 80s. That is before it became as commercial as it is now. I have alot of memories of this place. He protested along with others to get this space as a Asian community center. Things change it still has a bunch of events and classes. I've visited this location twice for art shows and both time it's been a great venue. First, the location is bit hidden, so you have to get into the driveway and door is to your left. Parking wise, park on the street for metered parking or park in the free shopping lot next door if you are also shopping there.
