Probably the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. No A/C, not normally needed in SF but it was hot the day we arrived and they had the windows closed so the room was really stuffy and far too hot. Even after opening the windows (which had no screens by the way) the room never cooled off enough to sleep comfortably. Due to the lack of screens, uninvited mosquitoes made their way into the room as well which made for an even more uncomfortable experience. The rooms have ceiling fans, but the hotel has disconnected the pull cords to adjust the speed, thereby making it virtually useless.
The rooms are OLD and the furniture is WELL worn, with stains on almost every surface, including the bed spread. Nasty!!!! Really made me feel like not touching anything in the room. I will be decontaminating my suite case and all of my clothing when I get home.
The walls are PAPER thin so I had to endure the couple in the room next to me going at it - they might as well have just jumped into my bed since it felt like they were right there. Unreal!!!
The entire hotel smells of many different and unpleasant odors and the elevator smells like urine. WOW.
The only reason we stayed here was due to the lack of rooms available in the city during the CTIA convention. Horrible experience all together and I will never stay in another ABVI property again. Please find a different hotel to rest your head. You will be running to get out of this place if...
Read moreI am giving an overall of a 5, due to price vs experience.
We booked with Priceline, and got an amazing rate for a motel in the heart of San Francisco. I booked before seeing reviews and got a little scared; however I was pleased.
We were not arriving until almost 9-10pm, so I called the motel and the desk was super nice, and when we walked in we were greeted with “You finally made it, you called me” and a smile.
The Motel is old, so yes it will have its quirks. Very old/small elevator, the hallways are narrow and do look like the hallways off the shining but we thought that was neat. The rooms are pretty basic. Two double beds(not extremely comfortable but sleepable), ceiling fan and windows that open, but no A/C only heat, our TV was broken, I am sure it would have been fixed if we called it in but we were not using it. The bathroom was nice with glass shower door, and tile, water pressure could have been better but it was nice.
YES there is a club on the corner and it gets loud, but if your staying in the heart of the city, you need to expect some night life.
Only actual complaint is the parking....there is none. There is a parking lot a few blks down that is $30 a night, we opted to use...
Read moreYou probably already know what you're looking for in a hotel if you've found this place. The price says it all... it's not some hellhole in the Tenderloin or anything, but it's sure as heck not the Ritz. In a city as obscenely over-priced as San Francisco is, this is a suitable option for economical (for the region) lodging.
The elevator probably hasn't been modernized since the 1st Bush was in office, and i'm betting that the rooms haven't seen any updating since Clinton, but we felt safe and perfectly fine staying here.
Biggest complaint: the plumbing. When you get your room, run the tub immediately and see if it drains. Ours was intolerably slow. They weren't able to fix it and chatter with other guests made it seem simply like some rooms are like that.
Also, if you Valet your car (which you will have to do if you have a vehicle, no parking for miles) plan on it being parked out past Oakland or possibly in Nevada. It took --no joke-- an hour or more sometimes for the hotel to bring the car when we asked for it.
Worth the price? In any other city (save for maybe D.C.) the answer would be "probably not" but in the Bay Area, this is probably as good as it gets for travel...
