Highway robbery!!! You have to apply to get credited back the months they were closed for Covid as they still charge you… why do you have to wait and apply? When no one answers the phone. The gym was closed for several months, NO ONE was using the facilities. Do not charge in the first place!!!!! I signed up a month before Covid (I so wish I hadn’t) and this particular location was closed most of the time because of power outages. My first time at this gym and in the middle of my workout, lights went out and everyone was sent home. It’s not their fault but still inconvenient if you’re going to pay a lot of money monthly for a membership. In may 2020 I had emergency stomach surgery and was out for a couple months. I have a doctors note, Hcoa showed 0 empathy. I signed up for the year contract . After the year was over, I left Puerto Rico. They automatically renewed my contract WITHOUT me knowing for another year and charged me on my now closed bank account for the whole year! Was not informed at all. No call no text no email, nothing. Hcoa told me that’s it’s in the contract… I was NOT told this when signing up!!! and who reads the little fine print in a contract? I didn’t know at all until a year and a half later when I got a call from a collector… just terrible!!! I have never been put in collections in my life but Hcoa put me there! I went to Hcoa Santurce last week to show concern and try to find a solution. I asked for a manager, manager wasn’t there so she looked into my account and talked about it in the open as people who scanning to come in. Unprofessional. I wanted to sit down and talk to a manger about my account in private! The whole time this lady was literally laughing at my situation and smiling the whole time… very concerning and disrespectful… I told her it was rude and she continued. Save yourself the headache and don’t sign...
Read morecrammed, minimal ventilation & no cell phone signal. They also lied about their freeze & cancellation policy.
No a fan of this gym but it is close to my place. I'm no sure why they categorize it as a signature gym tbh. It has nothing signature about it. The gym is in the basement and has low ceilings. So, there is not much ventilation and no cell phone signal whatsoever. So, I can't listen to my podcasts or music, and don't get messages in there. In addition, the place is small for the amount of equipment they have, so it feels very crammed, especially when there is a lot of people. Also, it's hard to find a machine or an open space to do free weights at peak hours.
Moreover, they close early (10pm) compared to other gyms.
The group classes are alright but they often run late (sometimes up to 20min.) due to chitchatting, which is kind of annoying if you are on a schedule.
CANCELLATION & FREEZE POLICY: They told me that if moved to a state where they didn't have a gym, I could just provide proof of my move and they will cancel my membership at no cost. However, when I called to ask for more information they said I would have to pay a penalty and a percentage on the rest of the contract. Also, to freeze my membership they said I could just call and freeze it, no questions asked but when I tried to do that they said I needed a doctor's note, a travel confirmation/receipt or military orders, which...
Read moreAfter the COVID-19 lockdown I decided to cancel my membership due to the fact that HCOA Fitness keep charging me during the closeout of the facilities - even though I did not have access to the facilities, which is exactly what you pay for in a membership to the gym. I did too exactly what I was legally binded by the contact to do - contact the through email or certified mail to cancel the membership which was on a monthly basis. After notifiying HCOA Fitness to cancel the membership per contract agreement, they keep sending emails saying that a customer service rep will contact me within the next 10-15 days. I never get contacted by such customer rep after waiting more than 60 days from the initial request to cancel and after requesting several time to cancel the membership via email as specified on the contract. After waiting for such a long period I decided to go personally to the gym facilities - after the COVID closeout ended - and talked personally to the gym manager to cancel the membership. To my surprise the manager told that in order to cancel I had to pay another month of membership. My advise is ponder other alternatives if you want to go to a gym since this is the worst experience I have ever had regarding customer services and breach of contract terms...
