This is definitely a 2 1/2 star hotel for the following reasons (And I hope the response from the hotel isn’t a, thanks for your review. We really appreciate it. We’ll try to make it better!) We booked a king size bed with fireplace. Upon check-in, they put us in a non-fireplace room at ground level. Yes they got it wrong at check-in. Then they moved us to a king fireplace with a balcony. The king with fireplace was nicely decorated and remodeled, the bathrooms are very nice with upscale showers. However, the room itself, where you have to live, is exceedingly SMALLER than the advertised picture leads you to believe. The only space to walk around in is literally around the bed. Very very tight quarters. Two tiny tiny drawers for putting clothes. The desk is so close to the bed, It is hard to maneuver the chair. Did I mention the room was very small? While the bed looks beautiful, it is on the hard side and both of us had back trouble in the morning. This is very unusual for us. The pillows on the bed are those square tiny ones which are fairly useless. They really should have a better more luxurious topper, and full size pillows. The included breakfast was pretty decent, self service, but nothing fancy. We had a late dinner on the day we arrived there at the small Serving Room (you really can’t call it a restaurant). We had chips and salsa and a bowl of green chili stew. The chips were incredibly salty, someone clearly made a mistake. The salsa was excellent a yummy smoky chipotle. But the green chili stew was too spicy hot (in a bad way) to eat. And I LOVE hot spicy! The two staff members working the eating space that night spent more time chatting out loud with each other, then paying attention to the people in the room. Lastly, given that the hotel is a historic property, and a property owned by La Fonda, a very upscale hotel in the center of Santa Fe, we were expecting it to be much more beautiful on the outside. However, the outside is basically … a giant parking lot. Maybe because it’s historical there’s nothing they can do to change that?
In summary, if the rooms are really less expensive than anywhere else, it’s not a bad bargain because you can walk pretty easily to the main square due to its location. Our total room and tax bill however was not inexpensive either, about $250 a night. I wish I had spent the extra hundred dollars for a 2-night tonight stay elsewhere and stayed somewhere a bit nicer. I would not choose to...
Read moreThis hotel has perhaps the worst customer service I've ever experienced and I haven't even stayed there yet. I made my reservation online yesterday but never got an email confirmation. When I called the hotel to ask for an email confirmation, no one answered. Instead I got a recording and had to leave messages but no one returned my calls. After repeated calls, someone at the front desk finally answered the phone and said an email confirmation automatically gets sent when a reservation is made online (which I never received). That person then sent me the confirmation which has both a different confirmation number and a higher price than what I wrote down when I made the reservation. So I tried to call the hotel again. Twice my call got immediately placed on hold (no one ever spoke to me first to ask me to hold); and after about 5 minutes on hold, my call was disconnected. After more attempts to speak with someone, my call was finally answered by the woman at the front desk. She told me that what is clearly labeled as a confirmation number on what I was sent today is actually the hotel's folio number. She also said there's an additional $10 per night charge from what I saw online when I made the reservation. But when I spoke with someone at the hotel yesterday to ask a few questions, I was clearly told there are no additional charges and that the price I saw (after taxes) online when I made the reservation is the price I'd be charged. I was also told today that there is no manager at the hotel now and that the person at the front desk is the only customer-facing person working at the hotel this weekend. So now I am waiting for a call back from Amy, the manager, when she returns next week. EVENTS AFTER THE REVIEW WAS POSTED: Amy, the hotel manager, did call me and we had a very pleasant, productive conversation. She did not know about the phone problems or another issue that arose when I made my reservation online; and she said she would have them resolved. All in all, Amy reversed my previous negative opinion about the hotel and its customer service. I hope that continues when we stay...
Read moreWe had a king room (72) for 8 nights with a corner gas fireplace, balcony facing the main road (but not noisy). Had a nice view of the mountains. Was at the end so only had a balcony on one side. We would recommend staying on the second floor, but there are no elevators so you have to be ok with walking stairs. Small fridge and microwave under desk. There were two small bottles of water in the fridge waiting for us on arrival. Plenty of mirrors and tables. Bathroom had large walk-in shower and plenty of counterspace. Toiletries like mouthwash, q-tips, makeup remover Shower had large pump bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash Free breakfast – yogurt, fruit, bread, scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage/bacon, beans, flour tortilla. Breakfast ends at 9:30 am. Afternoon warm cookies in lobby. Free parking A couple of blocks from beginning of shopping street Friendly and helpful front desk staff Small bottles of water and apples at the reception desk. Lovely and cosy reception area.
