You will love this hotel, if you can make it past reception.|| I have been to this charming, boutique older hotel many times, In the past, I have always been treated exceptionally well from the helpful man who oversees parking, to the incredible housekeeping staff that beautifully maintains a very busy lobby, older but lovely and charming rooms to the charming El Charro staff.|| This time was no different except it was.||The main registration lady was hostile, unfriendly, uncaring and should have been at a large, cookie cutter chain like Hilton or Holiday Inn, not the charming Inn of The Governors. The hotel was busy yes but reception was not. This tall lady with curly dark hair was hostile to me and others the previous Saturday that I was there and I thought this was just a bad day for her ( it sure was for those who experienced her) but I was there again a week later. I saw at one point, that my friend and I were in between her and a Thanksgiving type of bountiful plate of food so I wanted to chalk it up to being Hangry then I remembered, the tall, curly headed lady was that way the week prior. This is so not worthy of every other staff member at Inn of the Governers who have always been charming, hospitable and bend over backwards helpful that I contacted a friend that goes there more than I and asked if management had changed. It had not. She is an anomaly and not in a good way. Her colleagues in that same position, a petite, dark haired younger woman and a kind gentleman truly represent the elegance and hospitality of this precious boutique hotel. I noted how helpful the gentleman was to everyone that came in. The younger, dark haired lady seems shy until she gets into her job and then she is a BOSS in a great way, getting things done for staff and hotel guests alike with a smile, a warm welcome and can do attitude that would make a marine proud. The lady that dislikes hospitality, her job and being in contact with the public does a great disservice to this amazing hotel. She overshadows in a bad way, the security guard who offered to help me unsolicited and then wrote down perfect instructions for me to the airport at 4am. I am directionally challenged and his directions were so perfect, even I didnt make a single wrong turn. This dark headed, tall lady's rudeness and sheer contempt for the public darkens the brightness of the housekeeping staff who are so friendly, so amazing at their profession that you want to hug them. This truly unhappy lady at reception leaves the worst taste in your mouth that even the very busy but always exceptionally attentive and talented El Charro staff could not remove. ||If you can make it past the very unhappy curly haired lady at reception, you will love Inn of the Governors. Good luck-it really is...
Read moreWe stayed three nights in a Deluxe Room with a Kiva fireplace. The room was spacious and clean with a comfortable couch and armchair, plus a functional desk / chair at which to work. There was both a full bathroom along with a separate sink / vanity area. Plenty of closet space with robes available. The only downside was that we found the mattress a bit soft – but that’s a matter of preference and we had no trouble sleeping.||The free parking in downtown Santa Fe really sets this place apart. And – at ages 71 and 68, each with a knee replacement – we easily walked everywhere. About ten minutes to The Plaza with all its shops, along with the Loretto Chapel, Georgia O’Keefe Museum, Santa Fe School of Cooking, and other sights in that area.||The included breakfasts each morning were excellent with a variety of menu choices. On two nights we ate at the adjoining Del Charro restaurant – once for full dinners and once for drinks and appetizers – and found both the food and atmosphere enjoyable. (And the $15 credit each night as a hotel guest didn’t hurt.)||Another great feature (particularly as we were there in the cold of late January) was the afternoon sherry reception in the lobby. We visited with several couples who said they had been coming to the Inn of the Governors for years – over a decade for one couple. And we can see why. This is definitely the place we will return should we ever be back in Santa Fe.||In closing, a thumbs-up to Kenneth, who ran the reception desk on the evenings of our stay. We didn’t need anything because everything was already taken care of so well, but Kenneth was just a friendly, fascinating guy to spend...
Read moreThis hotel is very cozy and charming. It isn't anything fancy, but it is clean and a great value. The breakfast buffet is amazing and gets you off to a good start. The staff is very friendly and helpful. My husband went hunting a couple days before in Las Cruces and they happily stored the meat from his hunt in their freezer. The $15 credit per day toward their restaurant is also a great bonus. I loved the close proximity to shopping and dining as well. They don't charge for parking, which I think is rare for the area's hotels and we always found a great parking spot in the hotel's parking lot. The only thing I did not care for was the room we had to stay in during the last 2 days of our stay. We decided to extend our stay for 2 more days and had to be moved because the room we were in was booked in a group, which was not problem for us. However, the new room we got was incredibly noisy. Still clean and comparable to the first room but incredibly loud. It was on the other side of the hotel's kitchen apparently and we could hear everything from water being turned of and on, talking, loud music, banging around and various other commotions throughout the late night and early morning. I had to wear ear plugs and take a sleeping pill to fall asleep. They have had to gotten complaints regarding the noise before, I don't see how they haven't. Yet they continue to book the rooms along the backside of the kitchen which I think is wrong and unethical on their part. Everything else was great except being in room 125. When booking asked not to be placed in room 125 or the bank of rooms next to it. I will definitely be back to stay just in a...
