Saw the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet perform and it was stunning. The company did some very innovative dances (one was performed on the floor and I wish I could describe it like it deserves.) The venue itself is amazing. One of those beautiful, old fashioned theaters that are breathtaking.
Although there was supposed to be parking, the place was filled and so we had to park several blocks away and walk. Ahhh...so what? It was a beautiful, warm evening and so it was no big deal.
All in all, an absolutely lovely evening with the ballet company's performance was delightful.
Honestly though, that floor dance was one of the most interesting things that I've ever seen. It was a little love story and performed completely while laying down on the floor. There was some kind of screen above it so the dance was projected onto the screen so it appeared that the performers were standing up. Sometimes my ADD kicks in and about half-way through, I start wondering when it's going to be over so we can move to the next thing. Not in this case. I was transfixed at the beauty, music and movement as the dancers crawled around the stage. When it was over, I was disappointed because I so wanted it to last much longer than it did.
Wonderful evening,...
Read moreWhosever Idea it was to serve alcohol to people at these shows should be fired. Let me tell you something: people that drink alcohol at a comedy show will disrupt the show. The security you hired to take care of them was completely absent. The only thing I heard all night was heckling from the 3 people sitting next to me. Eventually myself, the audience, and even THE comedian heckled them enough to leave an hour and a half into the show. But it was not easy. They were not getting it. So we had to be pretty mean. Which ALSO completely distracted from the experience of the show. By the time we finished I felt like a huge jerk. So I explained this to management after the show, and the wrinkly old bag that was manager that night said she was sorry. And that’s about where it ended. There was a time when I really enjoyed the performances here. Back when my school would bring us to the Lensic on field trips. Back when I was probably just as dense as those running the place now. Because I was 7, and couldn’t tell the difference between a cozy theater, and a zoo. But now I’m a 25 year old man, and this just doesn’t cut it. Save your money folks. And if you do...
Read moreI love coming up from Albuquerque for performances at the Lensic. We came up for the Mavericks on 12/6/22, the theater is still it's wonderful little self. The problem was, no one was watching the candy jar. Allowing late seating after the start of the show was a real bummer. It was pitch black in the balcony and I was up and stepping out of my seat into the aisle six times for the first thirty minutes of the show. There was no request for phones to be turned off or be put away, the man next to me with the brightest screen texted during the entire performance and the gal in front of us with a bright giant screened phone kept holding it up right in front of our viewing window in order to capture video. Furthermore, there was fighting down in front in front of the stage during the show and no security. Raul had to stop the concert and ask everyone to calm down/sit down. It seems my fellow New Mexicans can't police themselves and the Lensic needs to set some ground rules and supply some...
