Lockview Restaurant — Restaurant in Sault Ste. Marie

We were crossing the border from Canada and doing a search for restaurants that might provide a good meal for a late lunch before we finished our long trek home. This place had pretty good reviews and claimed to have a view of the locks from their dining area.

I ordered the whitefish dinner Cajun style with a baked potato and salad. My husband ordered the salmon dinner, grilled, and my daughter ordered the poutine appetizer, potato soup, Caesar salad, and the ribeye steak.

First of all, they have a chalkboard sign outside their entrance which reads “we have AC”. It was a very hot day and if they DID have AC, it must have stopped working. Even our server was constantly fanning herself and would stand in the corner while stating “I need to find a cooler spot”. It was warm almost to the point of too uncomfortable to stay, but we were hungry.

The poutine fries were lukewarm and no longer crispy, the gravy was also just lukewarm and didn’t melt the cheese. Our salads were fine, though some of the lettuce pieces were starting to brown. The potato soup was also just lukewarm. My whitefish and baked potato came out hot and was pretty good. My husband said his cedar plank salmon was the worst salmon he had ever tried… and he loves salmon! My daughter’s steak was over cooked and just mediocre at best.

The service was fine, they just all looked hot and miserable.

As for the view of the locks, there isn’t one. There is a park with large trees and an area of construction blocking the view. They did have a large TV in the dining room which showed a live camera view switching back and forth from the locks and boats on the open water.

We were heavily disappointed. I rely on reviews when we are in areas we have never traveled before. I am wishing we would have just...

UNFORTUNATELY, I got the Hot Roast Beef recently, and they changed the gravy. The gravy was nowhere near as good as it used to be. Updated to 4 stars.

We stopped in here for breakfast the other day, and it was delicious!!!! My husband had the steak and eggs. The steak was very tender and well seasoned. I had the Monte Cristo....it was very tasty..I think that the French toast should have had a bit of a crisp to it, but that's my opinion. My son had the sausage biscuits and gravy. He gobbled it up, so I'd say it was good also... They open at 7 am, which is earlier than the other breakfast places, so YAY! The waitress was very friendly... ....it is very chilly in the morning, bring a sweater

This place is seasonal..... *original review * It actually has a view...if you sit upstairs. I have only eaten here a couple of times, but I do enjoy eating in a restaurant that has a view. The prices are a little high for the service and the food selection. In my opinion. but it is a tourist place. On my last visit, however, I ordered the hot roast beef, and it was exactly what I was looking for...it has that good dark school cafeteria (or if anyone out there remembers Kmart...

I have never left a bad review before. I don't like doing this. However after thinking about this for a few days I have decided too. My wife and I had dinner at Lockview restaurant Saturday 9/16/2023 around 4 and 5 o'clock. The food was awesome, the view itself was awesome as well. However the person who waited on us was very unfriendly. And it's funny because they have a sign upstairs on the podium or stand where the host or hostess greet you basically talking about how we as customers should treat the staff, and if not we can be asked to leave. Which I get and totally agree customers should be polite and respectful to the hard working staff. But I wonder when one of the staff is rude, unfriendly or whatever does the customer then have the right to ask them to leave as well? And for the record I did try calling yesterday to speak to a manager because that is the way I would have rather dealt with the matter than leaving this review. However I was told the manager had left for the day. And they could take my name and number. And after one more day of thinking about everything that is why I have finally decided to leave a review. Again awesome food and atmosphere. Just...
