First off, we really wanted to love this hotel and were so excited. The pros of the place are the fact that the rooms are absolutely beautiful, the location is perfect and it's so clean in the room.
If you're looking for good service or any kind of hospitality - don't stay here. Maybe we just were there on an off day as we only stayed one night but they did not make us feel good at all. The service aspect and hospitality just was not there. We had a really horrible day of travel and other issues causing us to arrive to the hotel very late which I communicated with concierge. I also communicated that we were celebrating. The accommodations were beautiful but after a long day of travel we just wanted to rest. At 6 am we were awoken by what sounded like stomping above our head this went on for hours so we finally decided to go to breakfast. We figured out quickly what the sound was our server was wearing massive heeled boots and her shoes were the only ones we heard above our head all morning everyone else we didn't hear. There was only two other tables when we sat for breakfast and we got the eggs and bacon. It took 35 minutes and the food came out ice cold from sitting in the window for too long and the eggs were cooked improperly compared to what we ordered. Nothing was offered with the toast. I found hair in my cold food and the server never came back for me to tell her, she also forgot my coffee order so I went to the bar to order coffee and ask to remove the late check out because of the experience we just wanted to leave. The server then finally acknowledged us just to call after me and call me "room 15" which was incredibly rude. Maybe my expectations were too high based on the reviews raving about how warm and welcoming this hotel was supposed to be and again, maybe we were just the unlucky ones to catch this place on an off night/morning. There were so many opportunities to just make us feel an ounce of welcome and they were completely missed. As someone who also works in this industry and just wanted to have one night to experience the "other side" of the business I was utterly disappointed. The only person who showed some care and hospitality was Koby...
Read moreWow, the Bellwether truly exceeded my expectations! I came to Savannah for a solo "treat myself" trip, and staying at the Bellwether was the highlight of my time here. If you are looking for a beautiful, thoughtfully curated, restful, welcoming place to stay during your time in Savannah, this is it.
Location - The Bellwether is conveniently located close to downtown, in walking distance to the gorgeous Forsyth Park, lots of rich history, quaint shops, and delicious restaurants and bars. I didn't have a car during my stay, and enjoyed being able to easily walk around downtown and back to my hotel.
Space - This is a luxurious, historic building that has been remolded perfectly. I loved the color palettes, design, and accents that gave a nod to the history of Savannah without being too "stuffy". Be sure to spend time in the courtyard and the porch out back as well as the common areas downstairs. All the details of my room were delightful, from the luxurious bed to the unique art, rich drapes, natural light, bathtub and private balcony.
Service - The staff are very welcoming and helpful without being overbearing. You can tell that they enjoy their work and take pride in this beautiful space that they have created to share with guests. They truly go the extra mile to make sure that you enjoy your time in Savannah.
Food - Included in your stay is an extensive breakfast, espresso, and specialty coffee beverage menu in the mornings, as well as afternoon tea with the best sandwiches and pastries, and a champagne toast in the evening. I ate breakfast here three different mornings, and tried quite a bit of the menu. The menu is a take off of flavors from Indian street food blended with Southern comfort dishes. Everything I had was delicious, especially the Syrniki and Chicken & Potato Dosa (be sure to get the house-made chicken sausage and miatake mushrooms on the side).
Other Amenities - You've got to take advantage of the many other wellness opportunities here, including the spa, yoga and more. I did the yoga class every morning with Meg, and it was just what I needed on this trip to relax, be present, and challenge my mind & body. I can't...
Read moreThe Bellwether House is such a beautiful property and experience! This building, built in 1867, was a former residence to two prominent Savannah families who divided it down the middle and put their own individual architectural touches on each side. I stayed in one of the upper floor rooms overlooking the courtyard. The bed was super comfortable, the furniture and modern amenities (smart TV, Google Nest Hub, keyless locks) were great without distracting from the historic feel, and the bathroom aesthetic is on point!
Even better is the experience that is included. At check-in you have the opportunity to enjoy High Tea, with your choice from a selection of tea from Savannah purveyor Hale Tea Co, served alongside an assortment of small sandwiches and delicious pastries. The pastry chef here is phenomenal, by the way. In the early evening, they have a champagne hour, where they open up a featured bottle of champagne for everyone to share together. Such a cool idea. There is also a full bar service with signature cocktails you can purchase throughout the day. In the morning, you get an included breakfast with dishes designed by their own chef. The dishes carry Indian influence, and a favorite of mine was the chana dosa which is a chickpea based crepe. So good! They also feature a full coffee and espresso menu with coffee by a regional roaster, Good Citizen Coffee Co. You can get drip, cold brew, a cappuccino, or several specialty lattes with all the syrups made in house. These are included with your stay, as well!
Some other amenities they offer on the property are morning yoga classes, massages and a hot tub, and a gym. Oh, and it's also located just a block away from historic Forsythe Park, the Central Park of Savannah!
The staff was so hospitable and professional, and I had a very restful stay. You can have has much or as little interaction as you please, depending on your inclination towards introversion or extroversion. I highly recommend making The Bellwether House your stay if you are looking for something a bit more upscale in Savannah, a perfect choice for any special getaway, anniversary, birthday, etc. I look forward to...
