I love the Massie Heritage Center. I suggest the Massie on a daily basis because it is one of the best all-encompassing museums in the city. I feel the Massie does a fantastic job on featuring all of Savannah's History. Why she was founded, the Native Americans who lived her before us, Slavery, Emancipation, Architecture and the city's Preservation History. This is an explore at your own pace, there is a lot of reading, being it is one of the only places who discuss the Native Americans they do a pretty good job, is it perfect, no. However, covering all of these areas with a building that dates back to 1853 is extremely difficult, it was also an Elementary School, so the bathrooms are smaller than a normal museum. I also love the school on the top floor with the bell. My children have visited the Massie on numerous occasions for school. They have always enjoyed it; they have never mentioned the docents were mean or rude (trust me they both would have), I also have never experience this in all my visits to the Massie. This museum is also part of our school system, they do not get much funding for this museum. For the budget they have they do a fantastic job.
As for the Bus Parking comment, Bus Parking is dictated by the city, not by the Massie Heritage Center. I strongly suggest if they say don't park in a certain place, you listen because the fines are costly, even if you stay with...
Read moreWe just took our troop of Girl Scouts to Savannah and we toured a number of places. Hands down the top experience was the Massie Heritage Center. Fort Pulaski was a close second. The instruction provided to our girls at Massie Heritage Center was first rate. It was informative not only to our girls, but to the parents and leadership as well. The staff was not only knowledgeable, but very kind. The Gardens at the facility are a must see as well. The exhibits are amazing. The story behind the Center is an amazing glimpse into the past that shows how far our nation has progressed in education and how delicate the institution of education overall is as well. Especially if you're taking a group on a trip and you want them to learn important information in a structured, fun, worthwhile way, then don't miss out on this experience. You'll be glad...
Read moreAs a driver...i took a group there and was told i could not wait for my group in front of the building because that is their trolley stop...when noone from the trolley actually went in the building, but my group did. So the mean to tell me grown adults that is not touring your building get better service than the children that actually are in your building. On top of that i was told to park around the corner in a handicapped spot...i drive a big bus and the space is for a car. Why is the trolley stop not on side of the building. That would actually...
