Dirty dining area, snarky staff, food meh, poorly trained employees. It's been a few years since I visited TP-Hitch and its likely I will never visit again. Many of the 5 star reviews are super sus, mason and others seem to be superstars! We visited last Sunday (7 July) evening and sat against the far wall (enter door, go left), there were a few empty tables. The floor was filthy (see pics) and the staff just walked over the food and debris on the floor. If the dining area can't be kept clean, whats the kitchen like? At one point, the hostess moved a few nearby tables around randomly but made no attempt to clean the visibly dirty tables or call another staff member to do so. My patty melt was way overdone, I did not ask for a specific doneness but the way-past-well done product I got was drier than the Sahara. My partner's shrimp and grits tacos were good but the requested sauce in the side was instead on the top. We never received our appetizer of fried green tomatoes (the primary reason we visited) and the server just remarked that "someone" forgot them...who, if not her, was this someone??? When we were about halfway done with our food the server asked if we needed anything (which we appreciated), when we replied "nothing at the moment" she brought our bill! I reckon we definitely were not having another beer at that point. On our way out, I asked the hostess why she didn't clean the dirty tables that she moved around...get this, she said "they don't pay me enough to bus tables" (?!!?). I suggested it wasn't too late to call a busser over to those tables...again, a "not my job" reply and she suggested the server was the person to ask. So then I suggested she could ask the server to get the tables and area cleaned and...you guessed it, not her job. Her parting shot was to suggest that I speak with the server about getting the area cleaned. Oof. She went back to fiddling with the thing in her hand (looks like a game controller with muti-colored buttons ?). This isn't an issue with the server or the hostess, rather our experience points to some institutionalized training issues. Please see my other reviews for...
Read moreFun atmosphere and casual vibe. Decor has slightly industrial feel. Lots of great, large B&W photographs on the wall; typically 50-60’s Americana themes. Sidewalk seating also available.
Located at Drayton & E Liberty. Had to circle the block twice to find a spot. Savannah parking 🙄
Menu only online, sorta a pain. Whole place very wired, really speeds up service once you get past the QR menu. Server, Paul, was great. Service and hostess was prompt, friendly and attentive.
Menu was heavy on fried, comfort style food. Lots of interesting takes on traditional Southern dishes. We ordered drinks, fried green tomatoes, Miyagi beef tacos and a fried chicken pot pie.
Had a draft beer, slightly cooler than room temperature. Meh. The wife had a cactus pear Margarita. More sweet than flavorful.
The fried green tomatoes were thick sliced and fried in a tempura batter. Were finished w melting pimento cheese, diced red pepper and balsamic. 4 to a serving, practically a mean for 2 people. I thought they were good and creative. The wife is more a pimento cheese than I am.
The Miyagi beef tacos missed somewhat. Was beef finished with lettuce and goat cheese on a soft flour tortilla. Sauce was described as soy and ginger but was syrupy sweet. The sweetness overpowered any subtlety of flavor.
The fried chicken pot pie was impressive to behold. Shredded chicken, cheese, bell peppers and onions wrapped in pie dough and deep fried. Whew. About 1 million calories. Doubt if I could finish it even it was my only dinner item. Plenty big to split. Was very tasty but light on chicken, kinda heavy on cheese.
The experience was fun, the food and just kept missing a bit. The menu was such that I’d be starring on “My 600 Pound Life” if I ate there with any regularity.
Would recommend more for atmosphere than the food. Would categorize as more a drinks and snacks with friends than a dinner place. Will...
Read moreI will most likely provide a high rating to anyplace that ask if you would like start off with cocktails before afternoon kicks in. But that's not the only reason for the 5 stars. The service was faster than I expected for how busy they were. Polite. Friendly. All good. The food was very good. And, more important to me, unique. Take a look at the menu. It's different. That means something to me. We all know where to get good food. If you want a burger or a steak, you know where to go. But finding something different, something that stands put? That's harder to do. Don't get me started on why people keep opening different restaurants that serve the same food. I guess they always think they can do better. But "better" should mean that it is "different," right? Don't sear it more or add more seasoning and tell me it's better. Ugh. Anyway.. That is not the case here. They took the time to figure out unique flavors that work. Even the fries are cut different. Oh... and... without a doubt... the best tacos I have ever had!! 😋 And one more thing. The review(s) that complain about flies in the drinks kill me. You are in Savannah GA, and most likely sitting outside, and you think an insect in your drink deserves a lower rating? Stop reviewing places, please. This place, and others, have huge bug zappers outside. What else do you think they can do? Oh, one more thing again. We sat outside. If we had sat inside this rating may be slightly lower. The acoustics inside are like a Cracker Barrel. Very loud!! We took one step inside and turned around with "We'd like to sit outside please." Just...
