Where do I start? The night auditor overcharged us and was rude when my husband questioned her on why we were charged $201 instead of the $136 the website quoted when we booked. After two conversations with her, she told us to talk to the manager in the morning. She placed a $50 hold on our credit card and charged $15 to park in the dimly lit unsecured parking lot surrounding the hotel. This is the first time we've paid to park outside a hotel in an unsecured parking lot. It took some time to locate the parking fee information on the booking website. If the website had informed us regarding the parking fee, we would have chosen to book our regular hotel chain.
The rooms were nicely updated in this old hotel, but the hallway carpets were disgusting!! I included photos.
The housekeeping carts were lined up outside of our room. They were there before 6:15 a.m. and were still there when we checked out. Was this retribution for questioning our bill and asking for the reason we had a hold placed on our credit card?
The key pad on the side entrance door, near the handicap parking and ramp, was broken. Handicap customers have to walk around to the front entrance. There isn't a sign on the door, so when you exit, you get locked out. I mentioned it to two employees, and their responses were that it's been broken for a while.
There were a few positive notes about our stay. The morning auditor was knowledgeable and polite. The breakfast was good, especially the pork link sausages. Our room was updated, clean, and had a very comfortable bed.
This is a very old hotel that has had some remodeling. If you are looking for a new, modern hotel, don't book this hotel. I don't know that we will book another Holiday Inn Express hotel...
Read moreOverall disappointed with my stay. Substandard to what I am used to from HIE. Pros: very friendly staff, good and consistent housekeeping Cons: This hotel is an old inn that has been refurbished/rebranded HIE. It shows its age unfortunately. Hallways are stuffy and lack proper ventilation. Smells like a boy dormitory :) Breakfast area is cramped and too small. A proper ventilation is lacking too here. Bathroom fan is super noisy and totally inefficient. Walls are paper thin. I woke up to the sound of my neighbor I-Phone alarm, thinking it was mine... Noises from the ice machine and slamming doors are really a nuisance. Thanks God, most of the customers are there for hiking and visiting beautiful Sedona, so evenings and nights tend to be pretty quiet. Carpets in the hallways have known better days. Same comment for most of the bath towels that are quite greyish. Naive me did not realize that "available parking" mentioned on my booking means parking with a fee... $15 per night for parking on a giant lot that was 90% empty during my stay is hard to swallow. The daily $0,96 "sustainability" fee was a surprise as well. I haven't seen any recycling container there. Cutlery, plates, cups and glasses for the breakfast are single use. Perhaps we are paying for the lack of sustainability. Lastly, even though the name says HIE-Sedona-Oak Creek, keep in mind that this hotel is NOT in Sedona per say. It is in Oak Creek, a small hamlet south of Sedona. For those willing to be close to Sedona West facilities, or the Sedona "tourist strip", keep in mind that there is a 10 to 15 minutes drive to Sedona, although the drive is gorgeous and very scenic... From all the IHG hotels I have been staying in, this one is for sure the most...
Read moreMy Christmas present this year was to visit Out of Africa in Camp Verde, about 30 minutes from this facility. I chose this facility as I am a long time IHG Platinum member. The front desk staff was very friendly and much to much surprise, they 'upgraded' my room from 2 Queens to a King with a separate room with a sofa sleeper. My party was 3 adults. I expressed concern about the quality of a sofa sleeper and was assured it was one of the 'nice' ones and very comfortable. So, we opted for it. Well....... upon opening the sofa sleeper it was one of the poorest quality sleepers I have seen. The mattress was extremely flimsy and springs could be felt all through it just by lightly pressing on the mattress. This IS NOT the quality I have come to expect in my 20 years with IHG where I mainly stay at Holiday Inn Express. Another couple of things while not huge but confirmatory to the lack of quality mindedness in this facility, I was able to change back to the 2 Queens and found the bathroom sundries TOTALLY different. The second room had a shoe wipe in it. What?? That is not a general requirement in this part of the world. People go there to play outside and shoe wipes are not a necessary sundry. Finally, the front desk staff was all excited that they had finally gotten bacon back in for breakfast. We laughed and joked about that only to NEVER see that bacon served at any of the breakfasts on our multiday stay. Again, front desk staff was great and probably working within the means allowed by the Owner/Operator. However, not totally up to par with the many other facilities I have stayed at across...
