I actually didnt get to taste the food... sadly. Based on customer service when I called, I have no idea how this restaurant has received "best of" many years in a row. The person answering the phone was extremely rude before even taking my order. His name is Oscar. My entire interaction, start to finish, was just under 2 1/2 minutes. My order was for delivery. An important aspect of this is my location was less than 5 minutes from the establishment.... keep that in mind. I ordered a 12" pizza and when asked if that pizza was good, I was told "no", so i changed my order and ordered a different pizza then chicken strips "buffalo style", I was rudely informed that if I want "buffalo style" I need to order bone in wings... fine. Then, very abruptly as the entire conversation went, my credit card # was demanded. Then my expiration, CVV and zip code. Putting a halt to all of this i requested the amount that was going to be charged. Oscar didnt even bother telling me a price. He then offers $34.25... wow. But ok. Then proceeds to tell me I cannot tip at the door unless its cash. I explained i tip based on service, i asked if i can put tip on the receipt, he said "no".. I clarified my question again, he again said "no". So i reluctantly told him $5 tip. Then in a split second later rattled off "your food will be there in 40-45 minutes". Had I known the wait time was that long, I would have picked up or ordered somewhere else. Right after oscar told me a delivery time I said to forget it... meaning I would pick up... well then oscar fired back "I've already charged your card"... what? Before I agreed on price or delivery time he charged my card $39.25 for a 12" pizza and 10 wings. He was rude, distespectful... I asked for a refund. Oh, and when asked for his managers name, oscar replied, "I am a manager", then when I asked the name of his manager he replied "that would be the owner, Phillip. Hes not around and good luck" ... maybe this is acceptable in a small town where your business is the "big cheese", it's not acceptable anywhere else. Horrible...
Read moreOrdered a meat pizza, it arrives with carefully placed islands of different meats about 2" apart from each other to give the illusion that they had put toppings on it. Islands is the way to describe them since they were all isolated in a sea of oily grease. Like 1/8" deep of oily grease across the entire thing. No exaggeration, like take the slice and tip it over to pour it off before you try and eat it quantities. I flashed back to a documentary I had seen years ago about cleaning up oil spills in the ocean with bags of hair since they absorb oil so well and started daydreaming about whether or not they made portable pizza sized units. On Life Below Zero they say you have to dip your protein in seal oil in order to have more energy to not get cold in the winter. If the people that dip their food in seal oil showed up at Famous Pizza and ordered one of these they wouldn't have to bother. We were starving and only got 4 pieces down after pouring them off and patting them down with a bunch of napkins. Took the rest home and threw it away later after seeing the coagulated grease slick in the cardboard box of shame. I was going to give it to the dog but figured he'd get the runs so bad he'd destroy the house before making it out the dog door. The greasiest pizza I have ever seen in 34 years of dining out and we are NEVER...
Read moreQuality: The pizza is good. The crust is thin, crispy but still soft enough that its not tough. The cheese is rich and melts all over inside your mouth. Toppings will probably vary, but they were good for me.
Price: Its a pretty good price for Sedona standards. I got a 16' Hawaiian pizza for $22 after tax and tip. Its possible to do by the slice (1/8 a pizza) as well for $3.50/slice not including tax or tip (I think). One note is that buying by the slice will be from pre-pizza (cheese not as melty and awesome) and whole pizzas are fresh. I prefer the freshly made pizzas.
Service: This is where things make me a little sad. So the staff are not really friendly, but they're not rude to your face. The problem I had was when one of the staff asked the person who got my order "who got the Hawaiian?" he replied "its for Ching chong bing bong" (being me, who is Asian). Now I realize Asians are probably more rare here in Sedona, but that doesn't give a pass for someone to be overtly racist. A simple "it's for the Asian guy" is shorter and much less racist. Maybe try that next time instead. Not that I'm going back there for a...
