Invoking Jesus, Gossip, and “Exorcisms” — The Dark Side of Red Rose Thriftique, Sedona
If you’re looking for kindness, respect, or even the most basic form of customer acknowledgment, do yourself a favor and skip Red Rose Thriftique entirely.
I walked into this store today, October 22, 2025, at 11:05 a.m., and immediately regretted it. Three women were working — two behind the counter and one nearby — and not a single one acknowledged me. No “hello,” no smile, no “let me know if you need anything.” Instead, the first thing I overheard upon entering was, “Did you see that happen with that person? We’re going to have to do an exorcism on it.” That was my welcome — talk of exorcisms, gossip, and judgment, all while the air was thick with incense so strong it was nearly impossible to breathe in what is, after all, a thrift store with mostly clothing but also various other items.
As I browsed, I noticed used tank tops priced at $24 and plain T-shirts for $25 — none of which had any designer value. For a supposed thrift store, these prices were nothing short of insulting. I’ve shopped in high-end areas across the country, and even in the most upscale secondhand shops, I’ve never seen such inflated pricing on basic, worn garments.
Still, not one of the three employees acknowledged me — until I politely said:
“Hello ladies, how are you today? I hope you’re wonderful. I’m disappointed not one of you even acknowledged me or said hello when I walked in the door.”
That’s when things turned truly ugly. Instead of taking accountability, they verbally attacked me — defensive, sarcastic, and aggressive. One snapped, “What do you mean? We’re folding clothes, we’re hanging up clothes. Come here, I’ll show you how I welcome people into my store!” The tone was so hostile, it left me stunned. One woman (very tall) offered a half-hearted apology, but the group quickly returned to their loud, condemning commentary — this time invoking Jesus and judgment, as if my simple observation had somehow become a moral offense.
By the time I left, they were still shouting as I walked out the door.
After this disturbing experience, I read the online reviews — and suddenly everything made sense. Many others have noted the owner’s overly intense, authoritarian demeanor, the hostile treatment of volunteers, and the tense, anxious atmosphere whenever she’s present. Sadly, it seems what I experienced today is business as usual.
For a shop claiming to support animals and operate “for a cause,” I saw no indication of that beyond a sign suggesting that if you can’t afford to buy something, perhaps you could still donate. Transparency? None. Compassion? Zero.
This business should be investigated, and the owner should seriously reconsider how she treats both her staff and her customers. The arrogance, the spiritual hypocrisy, and the price gouging are a disgrace to Sedona’s reputation for authentic, heart-centered living.
To anyone reading this: stay away from Red Rose Thriftique. There are many beautiful, honest shops in Sedona that value people, purpose, and integrity. This is not...

Read moreIt appears Red Rose does important & good work for the animals of the area, so that is great! Pricing of their second hand items, however, is often ridiculous. There appears to be zero quality control in to what they accept as donations and put on the floor- especially in the “Barkin Basement”. Items are often in very rough condition, or simply not desirable at high prices (think $20 bucks for an old bath mat). Same with the clothes next door. There is a dollar rack but the items are next to the quality of trash. It would be nice to make profit for the 501c and provide deals to local people who shop second hand by necessity. Also, they take up 3 retail spaces (2 of which are just filled with junk) that other local businesses...
