Not great. Got into town earlier in the day and went to the Outdoor Gravity Park in the area (recommended). So my goal was to get checked in, get a shower, get changed, and go out to dinner. This was an RCI exchange so there was a $105 cleaning fee associated with my stay in addition to the exchange fees (the reason for my mentioning this should be obvious from the mildew, mold, dirt, from the picture). Entering the lobby there were 16 employees working, but only three were checking people in, the rest appeared to be working primarily on sales activities. There was difficulty with my check in (They wouldn't let me check in because I wasn't on the reservation with a "guest certificate", so I'll own that), however before I was made aware of this my card had two holds against it for both the cleaning fee and a potential damages charge of an additional $250, and my reservation was moved from a room that wasn't ready to a different one (I had arrived 2:30 or 2:40 - check-in was not until 4:00). There was a manager at the desk who sort of helped, but he was busy checking in people rather than helping others who were checking people in or training (the person helping me didn't know how to deal with my particular situation, she asked for help, and he couldn't immediately assist, as he was checking in other people rather than managing and assisting front line employees). After about an hour of watching other people check-in, and hearing that they were full, and seeing another person's check-in take nearly as long as mine (he did have two rooms) my issues were resolved (by a different person at the desk who talked to RCI on the phone and finished my check-in - she bumped the service rating from one star to two) and I was directed to the concierge (sales) desk. After being double-teamed at the sales desk (no such luck at the check-in counter, but this interaction was thankfully significantly shorter, not sure why they think that you would be interested in spending a portion of your time at the resort listening to a sales pitch, when you're supposed to be vacationing), I was off to the unit to take a shower. This unit that was 'ready', had about half of the kitchen cabinets open in the unit (not sure why, maybe they were airing something out? - pictured), which seemed odd, but I left them that way. The kitchen also had some crud on the stovetop (pictured). Took a shower in the shower that had the texture on the floor highlighted in dirt (pictured), had mildew/mold on the walls (solid panels, typically very easy to clean, not grout - pictured), mold/mildew around the shower door and in the corners (pictured - clear max makes in funnier), some grime in the jacuzzi tub with drips through it (pictured). I looked at the second bath, to see if things were any better there (they weren't - pictured), not sure of what was slime/dirt was there, but the texturing on the floor of the tub had the same dirt highlights as the master, so we should recognize consistency). Dirty table on the patio (pictured). It looked like slime had been leaking from the air vent (pictured). The grout in the master bath had three colors (light colored dirt, dark colored dirt, and the probable actual color of the grout - again pictured). Built in night light in the master bath had some grime in it as well (pictured). Given the filth throughout the unit, the "cleaning fee" seemed more ironic that anything (maybe they're saving that money up for a big year end cleaning?). I mentioned that the unit was dirty when I checked out after just one night. Desk staff asked if I had reported it and said that they could have moved me. I responded that I had heard upon check-in that the resort was full, so that didn't seem like an option. She seemed surprised that I was checking out early, but didn't have any questions or follow up to my dirty unit complaint. That said, the kind of dirt, mold, mildew, soap scum, etc, isn't something that builds up overnight, so I would have expected the same in another unit and...
Read moreAll in all a great experience. We got a really good deal from airbnb. We show up and it's a time share thing. Been there, done that. They want to do the presentation. They offer a free 2-6 day stay) and 2 $25 gift vouchers to local restaurants. We say "no" they say "it's only an hour and half" and we decide that sounds like a pretty good deal. Then they say it costs $40. Hmm. But it will be refunded if we go to the presentation. Getting a little more perturbed about this whole thing now. We check in and the place in nice. Giant master suit(ish) with a huge tub and connect to the main bathroom which also has a shower. So far so good. Our deal was a 1 bedroom with my teenage son on the foldout couch and my 13 year old daughter rocking an air bed. Do the time share presentation (be prepared to talk to someone for about 30 minutes about how much you pay per year for vacations and how this dude has it all figured out- and you can too! If you just want to put down $20000. "Yeah right", we laugh, and they laugh with us. "But understand, if you stay with us again, and you want in then, it's going to ve ar least $40000, plus market fluctuations. But you can pay just $20 a month for a year to SAVE THAT price without commitment. "No", we say, "kiddo 1 needs a car and we still need to think about college"....... "No worries at all- I get paid whether you buy or not. I just get a commission. I'll have the satisfaction team check you out and you can get your gift cards.... .....sometime later the satisfaction team guy comes by and essentially tries to sell again but this time with more markers and arrows. Okay. We are almost out.... and we leave. The vouchers are for local places (yay) so we go check them out over the week. Both excellent (Blue Moose and Bullfish Grill- get the gumbo).
DAY 3/5. As a smoker, I go to the balcony at night. I flick the light on and see the scurry of those little monsters we all dread. "No worries", I thought to myself. "They're outside, not inside. This is one of the cleanest places I've stayed in."
NIGHT 5/5. My son and I are discussing our departure in the morning. We flick the light switch and....
...go out to the balcony as swarm of the giantess, biggest roaches charge forth from the night! And then! One takes flight directly into out room! We agree, then and there, to speak nothing of this to the sleeping women, though the air mattress on the floor is discussed. We phone the front desk to finalize check out instructions and report said infestation. We are advised that they are merely "mountain bugs". CHECKOUT. After gathering our things and getting ready to travel our grueling 8 hour return we arrive at the front door. Sitting lifeless, upside down, is our cockroach guest from the previous evening. Upon arrival of our intended destination of home, we began looking into the "free 2-6 night stay". (it's worthless unless you want to go to Vegas off season on a Sunday). But at least we got to meet Bubba! That dude is actually really cool. The sign language guy. I'd have a beer with...
Read moreMy family and I were scheduled to stay at the Wyndham Smoky Mountain resort December 4 - December 8, 2023. We were assigned to a room in building 17. When we got up there, the beds in the master bedroom and one in the guest room had stained and torn sheets on the bed. We were going to wash them and stay in the room anyway, but the unit was just not up to par. The appliances in the kitchen were rusty and the refrigerator was leaning forward. We went back to check-in and they assigned us to the room directly above. When we went in that room, we started checking for bedbugs. We actually found two live bugs in one of the guest beds and immediately left. We went back to check-in and were sent to building 21. We started the same process to check the beds and found multiple dead bugs on the box springs and under the mattress. There were also blood stains on the bed and mattresses. After that, there was no way we were staying. We went back to check-in and informed them we would not be staying. We also informed the concierge that we would not be attending the owner meeting the next morning, for which we put a $40 hold on our credit card. We spent a week at the Courtyard in Pigeon Forge instead. We'll, on Wednesday I got a notice from my bank that we were charged the $40 anyway. We contacted the resort and were told we would get a refund by the next day. Today is the 15th of December, and we have not received the refund. We have called the resort multiple times and are not getting the call returned by the manager. We have also contacted Wyndham's main customer support line. We are also not hearing from them either. We have been owners with Wyndham for over 25 years, and this is the way we are treated. If you are considering staying at this resort...DON'T. If you are considering purchasing their product...DON'T. They disrespect their owners at EVERY vacation, pressuring you into their sales presentations. They charge monthly maintenance fees on the points you purchase, and do not update the units. I rent through VRBO every year for vacations out west, and I would NEVER rent something that is maintained in this way. Their customer service is lacking, and they do not care about their customers, once they get your money. Beware! I'm attaching some of the photos I took of the rooms. This resort doesn't even deserve the one star that I...
