We were emailed prior to our arrival a link to check in early. However, this does not do you any good. You still have to wait in line at the front deck to check in.
When we arrived, there were four people in line ahead of us. The guest at the desk was having an issue where she kept trying to log into something on her phone and couldn't find what she needed and couldn't get logged in, etc. There were two staff members at the desk just standing and waiting for her to get it figured out. There are two computers at the desk, so I don't know why they didn't help any other guest, as two more people got in line behind us as we waited. It was about 20 minutes. This is pour customer service.
We really didn't interact with any other staff members during our stay, except in the restaurant. We found the signage to be lacking. Parking is in the back, but there are not clear directions to take the elevator up to the second floor as there is where the front desk is. Instead, you go all the way up to the front of the hotel, where there are stairs and a sign with small writing, telling you that the front desk is upstairs. We also found that signage for the pool was not present, we just had to wander around until we found it (there were signs telling to which floor it was on, but once on that floor you had to just walk around until you found it). The same goes for the restaurant. When you got to the restaurant, there was a sign, but you had to find it by just walking around.
The pool, hot tub & sauna area was nice and warm. The hot tub and pool were both a good size. The hot tub is a bit difficult to run as you have to hold down the button for a LONG time. The sauna worked great. We did not use the fitness room, but you walk through it to get to the pool. It seemed to have quite a bit of equipment for both cardio and strength training.
They have done an excellent job with the building and decor. It is really like what I think a 1930's hotel would have looked like. They kept as much of the original interior as they could, though there just wasn't a lot left to keep due to demolition throughout the prior years. The exterior has also been kept true to the original building.
We tried to look up information using their TV info system. We wanted to know the hours of the pool. The only info we could get was that there is a pool and it has towels. We tried to look something else up, too, but were not able to get that info. I can't remember what it was now. This is one of many things where the details were lacking.
There were two TV's in our suite (one in the bedroom and one in the living room). We could not use them for streaming, because there was no internet. We had to use our phone hotspots to use our computers, as the free wifi was pretty much unusable. Sometimes you could get connected to a very weak signal, but then it would drop out and you've have to try to connect again, signing into the system every time. Don't expect to be able to use the hotel wifi while here.
My biggest issue was that we didn't sleep well. All the pillows are thick, so my husband, who needs a thin pillow had a sore neck. We ended up purchasing our own for the second night. The bed is too firm, but didn't leave us with sore backs. It was just difficult to get comfortable. Finally, the noise. It is downtown and there were a LOT of noisy vehicles (loud exhausts) all night. There is a hospital about a block or two away, so the helicopter landing was noisy. Then there was the club or bar somewhere near by, that had thumping music that could hear throughout the area into the early...
Read moreThe newly renovated Warrior Hotel is a Marriott Autograph Collection property in downtown Sioux City. The inside is beautiful & classy from the moment you walk in, and evokes a classic and classy feel. The front desk clerk, River, was very friendly & helpful. My room suite was spacious and pretty with good lighting and the new style of composite flooring. I'm not sure if it was what they're using to clean the floors, but the room's floor was sticky. The couch & lounge chair were pretty & stylish, but uncomfortable. The couch is awkwardly uncomfortable to the point it just takes up space. The room was missing an iron & ironing board, as well as the steamer that River had said was present. Maybe the previous guest permanently borrowed it, but River quickly & politely brought an iron & ironing board to the room. The room is apparently handicapped accessible, so the doors are a little wider and the shower is a walk-in with an extra handheld nozzle. The mirror had a built-in TV, which is a pretty cool feature. The toilet had an add-on bidet seat, but I couldn't get it to work. The parking is free, which is refreshing for downtown area hotels nowadays, but finding a spot was a little tricky. The hotel has a really nice bar & restaurant on site, as well as a bowling alley, which probably contributes to the parking difficulties. I apparently forgot to pack my toothpaste, so I asked River at the front desk if they had any, but they did not. I've stayed at Marriott properties all over the US and any of the others I stayed at had little packets behind the desk, or at the very least in the little convenience pantry. Investing 20 or 30 bucks in little travel-sized toothbrushes & toothpaste to give your guests in need can go a long way in the hospitality industry. Since parking is at a premium, I ended up walking the 4 or 5 blocks through downtown at night to the nearest Walgreens. My main issue with the hotel came after checkout. I left a company-owned mifi in the room when I left early for my 7am flight out of SUX Airport - 100% my sleep-deprived mistake. I noticed it as soon as I got to the airport & called the hotel. I told the answering party exactly where in the room it was, and asked them to retrieve it so I could have it sent back to me, and then boarded the plane. I checked on it again when I landed, but the answering party had apparently not looked or found it. I gave it a couple of days over the weekend to see if cleaning staff had put it in lost & found, but it had not been turned in, so we cancelled the service on it. The hotel's location & upscale style is most likely (and hopefully) part of a revitalization effort for downtown Sioux City. Hopefully nearby property owners can take advantage & draw more people & businesses into the area and make it a destination, with the Warrior being the go-to place to stay. With all that being said, overall, I'd recommend it for business travel and even a weekend getaway with...
Read moreA friend and I on a cross country trip booked one night at The Warrior Hotel with massages in the morning at the Two Finches Spa in the hotel. We booked 3 months in advance since we were traveling for over 2 weeks with several stops. The hotel itself was beautiful. The rooms were nicely appointed and the steakhouse had very good food and cocktails. Our service in the steakhouse was impeccable and our waiter was knowledgeable and personable. I ranked the service so low because of the spa. We booked our massages at the same time so that we could get back on the road by mid morning as we had more traveling to do. Randomly my friend gets a confirmation text the day we're checking in that her massage has been moved an hour later. We're both confused because our confirmation says 10am for both. No one from the spa called us or asked if that was okay. So she calls them for the gentlemen at the spa to tell her that they're down to one masseuse and that's the only way to accommodate it. She explained that no one notified her or called her about this change but the gentlemen didn't seemed concerned at all about the lack of communication. This change was not great for our travel plans but we've been in the car for almost two weeks and really needed massages so we said fine, we'll shift our travel plans.
But now we have to check out late because my friend's massage doesn't even start until the checkout time of 11am and we're traveling with dogs that can't wait in the car with the current heat. We ask the front desk to accomodate a late checkout because the spa messed up our reservations and I'm told that even though it's the hotel spa's fault, we have to pay an additional $50 to check out at 1230. Again, pretty frustrated because this was a hotel issue and not a request driven by us but we're trying to have a relaxing visit so I agree and pay the extra $50.
So after all that, I get a direct call from the masseuse the next morning 45 minutes before my massage to tell me she's "got it coming out both ends" and can't do our massages. Two Finches spa is SO unprofessional and disorganized. After traveling for so long we were so excited to spoil ourselves with a nice hotel and a spa treatment before traveling again but this really diminished our experience. Beautiful hotel but absolutely do not bother with Two Finches Spa and be aware that the hotel will not take responsibility for their poor management. To top it all off, even after talking with a manager about the experience that morning and checking out at10:34am, my card was still charged the $50 late checkout and no one will answer the phone to address it. Absolutely horrendous...
