Trattoria Fresco — Restaurant in Sioux City

The service very poor. One waiter and one bus boy for the whole place, I believe is overwhelming. On the other hand the person that supposed to be waiter took at least 7 -10 minutes to come to the table for the first time. Lack of knowledge on the wine, on the food. I think he needs to be trained properly before go to serve tables. I ordered grilled calamari it was fine but when I ordered an addition of calamari they didn’t grilled it they deep fried instead. I ordered a Sea Scallops in an Orange and shrimp sauce the same person told me they come 5 pieces of scallops I end up getting only 4 . There were more shrimps than scallops and the sauce was running (no thickness at all), and orange in color but completely flavorless. Except for some acidity but DID NOT TASTE like orange. I forgot to mention, I ordered a bottle of J Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon, I was expecting to get the bottle opened at the table no no no , He opened in the back and brought it to me like that.

The place is nice , the location too, even the atmosphere I think is nice, prices are cheap for the way things are going on right now. And the more important thing there is a lot of room to improve. Most of your menu can be change for higher prices and in the same time train the crew you have now or bring a real professional ones. A cashier that could be a host or hostess would be helpful too. I've been here a few times, food and service were always great. One night I came here on a date with my girlfriend ready to have some great food and when I got there everything seemed fine. I got seated right away in a beautiful window seat and I was all ready to go. When my server asked us what we wanted he was a little rude about it but it didn't bother me too much. I ordered the rigatoni and my girlfriend ordered the fettuccine Alfredo. We got the food and it looked great, my rigatoni was exceptionally cheesy and her fettuccine looked great. I was all ready to eat when I heard our server all the way from across the room making fun of my girlfriend because he thought she said "you too" when he said "enjoy" after we received our but in actuality she said "thank you". Even if she did say " you too" which she didn't, I would still be very upset at how unprofessionally our server dealt with it. Additionally, the server walked past me multiple times (once with the water pitcher in his hand) when my drink was empty and I didn't get a refill until I asked him. I would've cut him some slack if it was a super busy night but there were only 2 other tables occupied in the restaurant. I work in a restaurant as well but it doesn't take working in a restaurant to know that that is just bad customer service. Food was five star worthy but I really lost my appetite when I heard a sleazy waiter make fun of my girlfriend. I went for dinner and arrived at shortly after 6pm and there wasn’t a lot of people in the restaurant. The first thing I noticed is that there was a smell in there. I couldn’t put my finger on what it smelled like, but I continued to smell it my whole time there and it wasn’t pleasant.

I was told to sit anywhere, so I chose a booth between two occupied booths. It took over 10 mins for the server to greet me and to give me a menu. After another 5 mins, he finally came back to take my order. I ordered the Rigatoni al Forno and confirmed it came with marinara sauce.

My server brought me some crusty bread and luckily for me there were (7) pcs of bread, little did I know I would eat each and every one. The bread was really good.

After about 10 mins I received my pasta and the first thing I noticed when I tasted it was the sauce was sweet. It tasted like a sweet pizza sauce. It might be fine on their pizza’s; it wasn’t good on the pasta. The pasta seemed to be cooked ok as far as firmness, but overall, I couldn’t bring myself to finish it. I'm really glad I had bread to help fill me up.

Then at the end of the meal, after he collected my plates, it took my server 5 more mins to tell me my check was at the counter where you pay. I eat by myself, and I consider myself a fast eater, I was in this place for 1 hr 10 mins and that was WAY TOO LONG for what you got.
