My wife and I recently enjoyed a trip to Sonoma and the broader Wine Country region of California over Christmas 2021. After doing a quick search, I came across a website for the Sonoma Bungalows. We had actually already booked another house through AirBnB, but after seeing pictures of the Sonoma Bungalows, we cancelled our existing reservation and rebooked Bungalow 5. The owners, Valerie and Mike were extremely easy to work with, answered all questions, and even proactively offered restaurant and hiking suggestions in both San Francisco and Sonoma. Based on these recommendations, we enjoyed a wonderful lunch in Sausalito and a memorable hike in Muir Woods prior to making the trip from San Francisco to Sonoma. Valerie really went out of her way to make recommendations based on both my wife and my interests. I could tell Valerie truly was invested that we enjoyed our time in California.
Once we arrived to the Sonoma Bungalows, we could immediately tell we made the right decision staying here. Mike and Valerie have done an outstanding job designing and furnishing the bungalows to make you feel at home. When we entered our bungalow, we were greeted with festive holiday music playing through the Sonos sound system (we thoroughly enjoyed and took advantage of this feature). Our bungalow had every comfort of home, including an extremely comfortable king size bed, electric fireplace, gorgeous bathroom (with heated floors), and a full kitchen. A bottle of wine and chocolates were waiting for us as well, which just added to a warm welcome.
The location of the Sonoma Bungalows couldn’t have been better. You are right next to the Sonoma Square, which makes walking to all of the fabulous boutique shops and restaurants so easy. If you want an awesome dinner, check out Valley Bottle Shop. We stumbled upon this place our first evening and had an awesome meal and great wines. It was a treat not having to worry about driving and parking when we could just walk from our bungalow over to the square.
In summation, the Sonoma Bungalows exceeded our expectations. We are so happy we found this wonderful place to stay, and can’t recommend them enough! Both my wife and I are avid travelers, and stay at higher end hotels, such as the Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons and St. Regis properties. The Sonoma Bungalows rivaled all of these hotels, and have earned our business for all future trips to Wine Country (we are already planning another 2022 holiday trip). Don’t miss out on this wonderful property that Mike and Valerie have created. Staying at the Sonoma Bungalows will only further enhance any...
Read moreMy husband and I recently stayed at Sonoma Bungalows with three other couples for a Lovers & Friends Valentine’s weekend getaway. While the accommodations were truly exceptional, the service left much to be desired.
From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the luxurious details of the property. The bungalows were beautifully designed, well-appointed with every amenity we could need, and even included a thoughtful welcome gift of wine and chocolates. One of the standout features was the heated bathroom floors—a delightful surprise that added to the comfort of our stay.
However, despite the stunning accommodations, the hospitality did not meet expectations. Upon check-in, we were informed by the property manager, Bunky, that visiting other guests' rooms was not allowed. This was surprising, given that we were a small group who specifically chose this property to enjoy time together. When our host inquired further, he was told that no parties were allowed—which was confusing, as a gathering of eight people hardly constitutes a party. Eventually, after "approval" was granted, we were permitted to visit one another, but the entire experience made us feel unnecessarily monitored and restricted.
Adding to the discomfort, my husband, who was sitting on our bungalow’s front porch, noticed the property manager watching him from the office window—an unsettling experience that made us feel as though we were being scrutinized. Furthermore, while we observed other guests being proactively offered supply replenishments, no one extended the same courtesy to us, raising concerns about the inconsistency of service.
For a stay that cost $1,400 per couple, we expected a seamless and welcoming experience. While the accommodations were undeniably first-class, the level of hospitality did not match. A luxury property should provide all guests with comfort, inclusivity, and high-quality service—not leave them feeling policed or treated differently.
I would love to return based on the quality of the bungalows alone, but unless the service approach improves, it’s difficult to fully recommend this property. Hopefully, management takes this feedback into account to ensure future guests receive the exceptional service expected at a property of...
Read moreFirst impressions can never be reestablished, when entering the property at Sonoma Bungalows it is very obvious that every thought went into creating the perfect retreat. My wife and I were very impressed with the excellent design of the property and the perfectly laid out bungalows. The parking is mere steps from your assigned bungalow; when we were beginning to unpack, Bunkie (sp?) was quick to greet us outside of the guest services building and give us a quick overview and some tips and recommendations about the area. When we entered our room, our jaws dropped. This is not just another place to stay while on vacation, it was a home away from home. A great place to return to after each day, relax with the in-room sound system, cozy see through fireplace, full kitchen for when we didn’t feel like going out to dinner. Absolutely everything you could need was in the room and it was meticulously clean. There was a chilled bottle of wine, the fireplace was on, and relaxing music was playing through the built-in speakers; back to my comment on first impressions, this is how you do it. The location of the property is perfect with the Sonoma Square and dozens of restaurants and stores about a block away, and available as your heart desires. Most wineries in the valley are within 30 minutes or less in the case of each we traveled too during this trip. When we travel back to Sonoma this will be the only place we stay, and we will recommend this property to...
