I read several reviews for this property prior to booking and I was somewhat perplexed. Some loved it. Others, well, not so much. I, for one, thought it was exactly what I expected.||||What does this place have going for it? Two things in my opinion. Price and Location.||||First, Price. You can't beat it. It is inexpensive in comparison to other hotels in the same general area. Why? Well, first, it's an older property. It was built in the 1800's and to tell you the truth, though it has been upgraded here and there, it still holds on the charm of an aged property. Secondly, it doesnt boast a lot of amenities. And, as for me, that's ok. If I wanted amenities, I would have booked a hotel that was one, two, three times the price and spent an hour by the pool or rode the elevator up-and-down a couple of times. But, hey, I only wanted a place close to the restaurant we were having dinner at and the plaza where we wanted to walk around prior to turning in. As for amenities? Nice bed. Nice pillows. Hot water for a great shower (though it took a while to warm up).||||Second, Location. We are members of only one wine club. That's right. One. So, we travel to Sonoma to enjoy events and pick up our selections. This gives us a chance to get away and spend some time in Napa and Sonoma. Preferring Sonoma, we usually end up spending the early evening in and around the plaza. Some great restaurants here. El Dorado and La Salette to name two. So, knowing that we can go out to a great meal, have a drink or two, or a couple glasses of wine and then simply walk back to our hotel makes Sonoma Hotel a great option. And for the price....even more so.||||The staff are friendly. The room tidy. Don't expect four stars especially for the price point. Recognize that the charm of an antique hotel comes with some of the quirkiness of an antique. The walls are thinner than a newer property so there is some noise issues from the street and maybe a neighbor in the next room, but we found it to be a very good option for the price, particularly because we booked relatively last minute. Thank you Sonoma Hotel. We slept well and...
Read moreCharming, boutique, historic hotel located right on the Sonoma square! There is much to be said for all this! There are downsides for which you need to be prepared. I stayed a week in Sept. 2022. The hotel is without housekeeping or baggage assistance. If you’re upstairs you need to be able to walk stairs and carry your luggage. While historic, the hotel is in need of some TLC and frankly carpeting should not be historic, which it is. My room was small with a full and twin bed. I was glad I was solo. No in-room coffee, but it was available out front each morning. There is no parking connected to the hotel. You’re on your own with street parking. Unlike some other reviewers I had no issue with a/c, hot water or water volume. All were perfectly fine. The bed and pillows were quite comfortable. While there was noise from the patio of the adjacent restaurant and traffic, sleep sounds on my phone took care...
Read moreGreat location. Nice desk workers. The rooms are small which is expected in a historic building, but are very nice, cosy, and clean. Great water pressure and heat which can be a problem in older buildings. A/C was amazing which again can be a problem in older builds.
However two things that really threw me off that I expect hotels to accommodate that were not. -WIFI DOES NOT WORK. The entire stay the wifi would connect and disconnect constantly, was extremely slow for those few minutes it was connected. Reliable working wifi is a must for hotels. -No conditioner. I expect hotels to have this accommodation. They have “conditioning shampoo” but this just doesn’t do the job
If you’re here just for wine tours on vacation, then these things won’t be a problem. But there are a standard expectations hotels should meet, and those...
