Large Leather — Local services in Sonoma

I love this shop! I have a curvy build, and finding belts is nearly impossible. Large Leather carries calfskin belts that are incredibly soft and malleable. It's the only thing I've ever found that properly holds up my pants while also conforming to the curve at the small of my back (curvy women understand the struggle of the gap in the back!!). The belts are an investment, but Jessica, one of the owners and artisans, stands by her work and is available for questions or customization on any of her pieces. She found me a belt that was long enough to be worn at my hips, added extra holes so I can wear it at my waist as well, and let me choose the hardware color and style for the buckle. Leather enthusiasts, we were excited to drive the distance in appreciation and support of brick and mortar craftspeople. Maybe she was having one of those days, but unfortunately the owner was suspicious of our friendly attempts at conversation and made an outright accusation that we were on some kind of reconnaissance mission to steal ideas. A simple Pinterest search yields more inspiration, dear friends. Nothing super original in the tiny shop; simple to gaudy mediocrity- def not why we made the trip. And anyhow, dismissing potential champions of small biz craftsmanship (I left wishing to see the small work gloves my nephew could treasure) seems a transparently insecure betrayal of one's biases. Stick to the unfortunate Sonoma stereotypes if you hope to be shown respect...

Love this place! I come to Sonoma every three/ four months, and I always include a stop off at this great store. You should come in just to smell all the wonderful leather! There's every nice thing you can think of made out of leather - bags, belts, coin purses, glasses holders, wallets, bracelets, hats, jackets, etc. (I'm particularly fond of the wonderful belts with top-grade, swap-able buckles.)
