The stay started off well. Lobby was in good shape, check-in went smoothly, room was clean, mattress was firm when I sat on it. Everything went downhill from there. The internet wasn't working, and I had work I needed to get done that evening. Called down to the front desk and was told it was my problem. No, it wasn't, and I proved it. Then was told (quite politely) that the internet was just fixed that day, nobody else was having a problem, and they couldn't get any resources until the morning. She also apologized for the inconvenience. I said I appreciate that, but it doesn't change the fact that I have to get some things done, and could she call a manager to see if there was anything esle to be done. She refused, saying their managers don't take evening calls. She said she'd leave a note for the manager in the morning, and since I was a Choice member, they would look at comping, or at least reducing the cost. Once again I nicely said thank you, but that doesn't solve my problem. She said she couldn't solve my problem and hung up on me.
The next morning, when talking to the morning front desk person, it was clear that she hadn't left any note, there was no reduced fee, manager didn't know anything, etc. She did tell me that they'd had numerous complaints the evening before from people on the third floor (where I was), so clearly the evening front desk person wasn't being honest about that, either. I was already in a bad mood from trying to sleep with bad pillows and the continuous extremely loud airplane noise that started, my wife said, at 5 am (and she usually sleeps through anything.)
I paid for a quiet comfortable room with internet and didn't get any of that, and the only response was that "I understand your frustration." That's a horrible way to run a business and if I ran mine that way, I wouldn't have any clients. It's not worth the effort to go to small claims court, so all I can do is help others understand that there are many much better places to stay...
Read moreLocation is perfect, the hotel shuttle runs every 30 mins for the 5 min drive to the airport. I picked this location because no rental car was available and Uber and Lyft are basically non-existent from this tiny PWM airport. The price was not bad comparing to the other locations around the airport. The building is very old, but the interior has been updated, clean and comfortable. The king room that I had has the sink on the outside near the door with a small but functional bathroom, you cannot open the door standing in front of the toilet and I am not a big guy by far, you have to wedge between the toilet and the tub to close the door. It reminds me those tiny business hotels in Japan. 😂 WI-FI is spotty, comes and goes. It also disconnects all the time even with a strong signal, so if you are uploading, downloading or having a conference call, this will get you. Now what is really unacceptable to me is the sound proving. I can hear anything and everything my neighbors are saying, every foot step, every sneeze and cough, every toilet flush and shower in the surrounding rooms and worst, the flights take off and landing. I woke up at 630am when the first flight took off, my alarm was for 830am. The high way traffic sounds were not too bad but somewhat annoying. I live in downtown Chicago, I am good with noise, but not these ones. As for the breakfast, pretty standard 3 star hotel offerings, thin crispy bacon, juicy sausages, machine made half fold cheese omelettes and your typical continental stuff, only if you can get it. Breakfast from 630-930, I went down at 730, out, 830, out, 928, some sausages left, no coffee. Either the kitchen is very slow or they under estimated how many guests are staying. Either ways, the sound prove alone won't bring me back. I will probably try the town place suites next door...
Read moreAfter reading some reviews I was prepared for a poor experience but it was just one night and the location was what I needed so I took a chance. For the price this hotel is above excellent. I travel a lot for both work and leisure and feel like I have a solid idea what reasonable expectations should be in various hotel classes and price ranges.
My room was very clean and modern. I have paid more for worse rooms. The beds, sheets, pillows and towels were slightly above my expectations. There is an unusually high amount of staff in the building all of the time and I am sure if anything in my room had been missed that they would have been happy to fix it.
Breakfast was much better than expected. Hotel breakfast has been much more hit or miss since the pandemic and this hotel meets my pre-covid expectations for brand and class.
I felt very safe here traveling as a woman with my young daughter. I didn’t see any sketchy people around at all. I read in previous reviews that the city sometimes houses homeless here I saw no evidence of this on this trip. I have however seen this done in really really nice hotels in other places, sometimes the hotels can’t even decline based on licensing. People need to grow up and have a little empathy, those people are guests of the hotel and this is a value hotel not the Biltmore.
The location is excellent. If I were to travel to this area again for a longer stay for work or an adults only vacation I would consider staying here for an extended trip. The only reason I wouldn’t stay for an extended family vacation is lack of amenities like a pool and playground, not unusual for an airport area hotel.
My only critique there is only one trashcan in the room. The bathroom area really...
