I've stayed at a lot of Marriott hotels and this has been the worst. My wife and I came down for a concert at the Little Caesar's Arena, and chose this location due to its close distance to downtown and fair prices. We booked a basic single king room. There were all the normal amenities you would expect, e.g.: TV with cable, desk with chair, coffee with Keurig machine, single sink bathroom, chair with footstool, clothes iron, safe, and closet.
We'll look at the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Good things: The shower has a nice ledge big enough to sit or easily shave your legs About 15 miles/20 min drive from downtown and Ubers cost $20-30 each way The in-room mini-fridge was cold enough to feel comfortable keeping raw sushi overnight The air conditioning goes down to 65 degrees while you're there, and the hallways were also cool
Bad things: Bed was worn with large dips that left my wife and I with back pain both mornings The tank on the toilet would randomly refill a bit every 30-90 mins, like some old apartment The floors in the rooms were gross. There were 2 large stains in our room. I mistakenly thought one was from my bag and touched it, only to realize it was mostly dry and greasy. Seemed like an untreated spill Air conditioning is motion activated, so the temp went up ~10 degrees when we left for the day and at night when we slept. Nothing like bundling up in a cool room, only to wake up drenched in sweat Our room was facing the highway and had a casement window that opened. Immediately my face was blasted with the hot, nauseating smell of rubber and motoroil from the highway. Can't imagine the carinogens buffeting the side of the hotel on a daily basis but the windows should be sealed Tons of noise from neighboring rooms and hallways in the morning, enough to wake up my wife and I
The ugly reason I will never stay here again and recommend you choose elsewhere: this place has the feeling that they are nickel and diming you at every turn.
Normal checkout is at 12pm. It cost $75—or half of what we paid per night—to check out at 3pm. Hotels downtown Chicago that are regularly booked to capacity don't charge this much (including other Marriotts) and this place was nowhere near busy or as nice.
There are no gas stations around the hotel and they make buying food/drinks a weird experience. They have the audacity to put an $8 bottle of water in your room. Downstairs in their "market" you'll find a pitiful selection of junk food, sodas, energy drinks, and water. They don't put prices on anything. When I took my 4 items to the front counter, the receptionist wrote some info down on a piece of paper then told me it would be billed to my room without telling me the prices. I asked her what the total would be and she told me $16.96. $4 per item, for 2x 16oz waters and 2x regular candy bars?? Curiously enough when I checked my receipt, there were only 2x $8 charges. The whole experience felt amateur and predatory.
They have an open parking garage that they want to charge you to use. There's no gate and I didn't see passes on any of the vehicles around me. Even said hi to the security guard one night and he didn't mention anything about a pass to me.
My final thoughts: I feel like at one point this hotel was decent, but like many other hotels has been wounded ever since COVID. Instead of trying to reformulate, they are trying to squeeze their customers for every last drop. It reeks of desperation and...

Read moreI can’t really begin to tell you the experience I had staying at this hotel because it never happened. This hotel was the sponsor hotel for a competition my son was attending in the area. So of course we chose to book here. My first mistake was booking online through a third party, but that actually wasn’t an issue until after the incident that occurred. My son who is 19 arrived to check in I had added him on as a guest so that he could do so. They told him he could not check in because he was not 21 we were unaware of this because they were the sponsor hotel for an event that was 18 and up. So he called me to see what he was suppose to do. I called to talk to the front desk to explain the situation and let them know that I was at work one hour away but could come and check him in. I explained he was there for a competition he was participating in and had a meeting in an hour and needed to go in shower and prepare for the meeting. The person I talked to was beyond rude and unprofessional. She spoke to me with a very pronounced attitude and told me she cancelled the room already with out even talking to me prior and would not allow me to check in online provide a card etc I offered many options. She told me I was not on the reservation only he was and he was under 21 so she cancelled it. Again I booked the room with my credit card, my information, only adding him as a guest. Now my son is stranded in Detroit with no place to stay. Thankfully we are Hilton members and were able to book at a hotel that we had no problem at check in. I have never experienced the type of behavior and attitude from a business and position of customer service. The way I was spoke to was beyond disgusting, staff and supposed supervisor. So now the today the next day I’m trying to get a refund they tell me to call the third party and I shouldn’t have an issue because they cancelled it. I do so they need a document. They refuse to give me that, saying they don’t do that. Again with the attitude it wasnt until I called a third time and and asked for a supervisor who I believe was different person from the day prior because she actually knew how to communicate professionally and properly to at least try and resolve the issue. I wish I would have gotten her name because the one star I offered would go to her. My advice to this hotel is revamp your front desk and get some staff that actually know how to speak properly and professionally with out acting as if they want to meet me out side to fight. So sadly I don’t know what staying here is like nor will I ever because I will never...
