May 2024 UPDATE: Second stay here was just as good as the first two years prior. Room was clean and in good, working order. No strong scents. I still wish there was a better place to walk the dog with a clean-up station provided, but the grass strip works well enough. Just a bit of an annoyance to have to walk across the parking lot to grass, especially at night. But it is pretty well lit in the parking lot, so that is a plus. We were on the 4th floor this time. Some noise the first night from the room next to us, not the hotel's fault. That night it was sold out, so some noise is expected. This room had a fantastic view of CO Hatch and the clock tower next door. Could also see the train tracks. Train was audible, but not bothersome.
Clean, spacious rooms, friendly staff, and pet friendly hotel in a decent feeling part of downtown. I would stay here again.
Detailed Review: We chose this hotel because it was dog friendly and we were traveling with our husky. We stayed three nights and it was overall a good experience. There is a long strip of grass that is shaded for walking the dog. It's just a short walk across the parking lot. There's quite a bit of dog waste though, which is sad. I bring bags and clean up after mine. Perhaps if the hotel provided a clean-up station people would be more responsible. I feel any pet-friendly hotel should do that to help encourage clean-up.
We were on the third floor and it was very quiet. I never heard anyone else except for nearby doors closing. Of course, we had the air conditioner and fan on all the time, so there was lots of gray noise. There are railroad tracks close by so you will hear trains go by if you're on that side (which we were) but they weren't bothersome to us.
The hotel and room were all very clean and appear to have been recently renovated and modernized. No strong scents (good or bad). Everything in the room worked fine. TV is large, and you can log into your Netflix account and stream if you want to. TV is super slow to react to pushing buttons on the remote, but I find that is common in hotels. Lots of outlets including USB so you can charge all your devices.
In the shower they provide body wash, shampoo, and conditioner in pump bottles attached to the shower wall. That's a great way to do it, less waste and you actually have enough product to use. It has a very gender-neutral scent and my husband and I both used it. I usually don't like hotel provided toiletries but these weren't bad. Water pressure in the shower was decent, and plenty of hot water.
Bed was comfortable, a medium firm and soft. Couldn't have been too old, it wasn't sagging or anything. Linens were clean and comfortable. Towels were plush and soft. Large vanity in the bathroom with full mirror.
We had a king bed and a loveseat with ottoman, which was nice to have. There was also a desk and chair and a mini fridge. Plenty of space for two adults and a dog. There is a coffee maker and coffee (which is only okay). I'd suggest bringing jugs of drinking water because the tap water is absolutely horrible tasting. Makes the coffee taste awful too. I have tap water at home and it's not anywhere near that bad.
Staff are pleasant and friendly. Everyone we ran into seemed to love dogs, too.
All rooms are interior entry, and some have balconies. There are stairs that exit to the side of the building, and we used those with the dog sometimes because she was afraid of the elevator. The grounds are well kept and they have lovely gardens and flowers all around which makes it feel nice. Parking lot was recently re-surfaced and is in excellent condition.
We did not eat or drink at the attached restaurant, and dogs aren't allowed in there. There are several places to get food and adult beverages within walking distance. There are even more options within a short drive.
This is a pricey hotel but the quality seems to reflect what they charge. I would certainly pick this place again...
Read moreArriving at the hotel after a long day of stress, sadness and planning of the upcoming funeral of my father was one of the more pleasant experiences of my day. I had just spent the last 41 days with my father as he was critical at OSU- SICU Medical Center in Columbus, OH. My father a life long resident of Springfiel did not win his battle and in the end pneumonia won. My son, who works for AmeriCorps/FEMA in Puerto Rico in disaster relief, flew in to be with our family on an emergency 5 day leave to lend support of his adored GrandDad and to me his mom. Gabriel and I were totally numb and exhausted and upon arrival greeted by a pleasant and cheerful young woman, who asked what brings you to our hotel today? I was honest and direct in my response,"my father's funeral". I realize now that my son thought my tone was a bit terse. I did not really mean it to be, however Tasha looked into my eyes and said I am so sorry for your loss. Is there anything that I can do for you? I said yes, as a matter of fact could I please purchase a water? Tasha (I believe this was her name), said you can have beverages as a Silver Elite member, please choose what you like and if you would like a complimentary beverage at our lounge, you are welcome to that as well. This kind gesture was much appreciated and something so simple as basic kindness and true hospitality is not always given in some businesses. I want to thank this young lady for being a caring person, for being kind and for making us "feel" just a little bit better as we had just been through the storm of our lives. We spent two nights at this hotel and were able to refresh and relax away from all of the sadness and grief of the passing and funeral of this amazing man.
Thank you Marriott for the training you provide, the focus on incredible customer service and the high expectations that you include in your training for your team. I have read Mr. Marriott's book , "Spirit to Serve" numerous times, and it is a go to resource for me as a Sales Director and Sales Trainer for the past 30 years. I highly recommend this book. A great sales and management guide. Thank you for your quality and your care of us the "Customer". What a concept!! You are meeting the high expectations and so happy that Marriott's bar is still set to a high level. Nice to see that Customer Service is still a priority. Very refreshing!! Thank you for helping us "feel better", welcome and cared for. That is what...
Read moreThe property is old and decrepit. A poor remodeling attempt was made at some point to update rooms, but old nasty bathtubs with black mold embedded in the grout doesn’t qualify as a remodel in my opinion. Hotel management tries to mask an overpowering “musty mold” smell with perfumes throughout. Perfumes are overbearing and after a one-night stay, the smell will not clear your nostrils. ||||Ohio Edison had a scheduled power outage to fix the power source, but the hotel failed to notify their guests. Stuck on the 6th floor for 3 hours during power outage. Venturing to an exit stair, resulted in walking down rickety steel plates to an outside door. I can’t image a property that fails to notify their guests of planed power outages. A note left in your room the day before would have been well received, but the property didn’t take the initiative. Front desk staff informed me that they posted a note at the front desk the day before. However, I did not check into the property on Saturday and had no idea a scheduled power outage was going to occur. There was no phone service during the power outage, so I was unable to contact the front desk to inquire about the power outage.||||I did make my way to the outside via dimly lit exit stairs. I suggest better emergency lights as multiple floors had to emergency lighting. ||||Bistro has decent food but the restaurant staff has a tendency to talk about and judge their patrons. ||||I am a loyal Marriott “Ambassador Status” customer, but I must warn any consumer, especially Marriott Bonyoy members, about this property. In fact, this stay will most likely result in more Hilton stays.||||I understand all hotel chains have their share of bad properties, but this by far the worst Marriott property I have encountered in five years.||||Expecting a clean, odor free and updated room is too much to ask at this property. ||||Again, consumer beware as this property fails to uphold the...
