My husband took me here for a surprise birthday trip in October. It was a nice trip overall but there's quite a few issues with the inn especially for the price. My husband was promised a water upgrade when he booked but what they gave wasn't what he expected or what they represented. A honeymoon couple got upgraded to a large water front floor level room dead in the center of the inn; we were put down the side of the inn with a miniscule balcony & if we looked left we'd see water. He had a hard time making the reservation on the phone with the person he spoke to & that's not usually the case at an upscale hotel, didn't really know how to put it together. We had spa treatments booked & thought they would've delivered our bags to the room while we were there but had to call for delivery. They did have the flowers my husband ordered from a local florist waiting in the room though. I liked my spa services. The steam room in the women's spa was broken (low temperature, hardly any steam) but they didn't say so until after I was out. I waited 15 minutes for my husband- because the men's worked. 😣Our room had frayed carpet around the fireplace, only half the heated bathroom floor worked, some blinds were cracked & only half of the whole window would work while the other half had to be manually moved slat by slat. We were never advised of the valet fee so we were charged an absurd price per day when we never even moved the car since it was handed over AND it was only parked 50 feet away, we could've walked anyway. The service wasn't what you'd expect for a $400-500 a night stay. While staff is personable they're not at the level of a5 or 6 star hotel & where this is most apparent is the restaurant & house keeping. They never serviced our room the 2nd day even though the sign was on the door. We came back from a day out & had no clean towels, an unmade bed etc. Things are very inconsistent at this inn but people pay these prices FOR consistency & excellent service. The day we left we got a newspaper in a bag on the door, but never had one any other day. It was disappointing that we chose the restaurant to celebrate my 50th birthday but service was completely lacking & I'd like to blame it on a later time reservation but from other reviews i know that's not why. They wouldn't take a reservation for the center table facing the water which was disappointing for a special occasion. Everyone in town told us to eat at an outside restaurant but we wanted the convenience of not leaving. We watched a server bring a bread basket table to table & offer different breads. When he got to our table he said, i have 1 of this & 1 of that. Really? I had to ask for other bread & he said it'll take about 15 minutes. We had to call servers over for water refills & anything we needed. Horrible service & we eat out alot so we know the difference. We did a sunset sailboat tour which was nice. Our cheese plate wasn't waiting for us on the boat & we had to go pick it up. Obviously they forgot & made it on the spot & it wasn't the cheeses we asked for. It's sad that we were willing to pay to be pampered but they let us down. At checkout it was on the bill WITH delivery charges lol. We asked them to remove that & they did. It's a beautiful property on the surface but maybe being taken over by a huge corporation has hurt it & the building is nothing without the service to accompany it & I can't stress that enough. My husband & i always have fun together so we enjoyed our time together, but it's a shame that he spent so much $$ here when we could've gone anywhere & probably had someplace more put together for the same $$. We had our honeymoon in 2009 on Anguilla at Cap Jaluca & it was wonderful. That was the epitome of 6 star service, our needs being anticipated not asked for. We planned on going there for our 10th anniversary but imagine my surprise to read that they were acquired by Belmond. 😢😭😭 They will be under renovations & now I don't think I want to go there anyway after experiencing lack luster service & broken...
Read moreMy wife and I just returned from a weekend getaway at TIPC booked through the Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts program. To be candid, we had very high expectations and justifiably so given this is billed as a 5-Star resort and you are paying over $800/night. The "little things" and attention to detail are table stakes at this level. They have work to do.
First, the positives. The property and grounds are beautiful and well maintained. You can't ask for a better location and view of the water, peaceful. Rooms were immaculately clean and comfortable. Shuttle service to/from town. The customer service we received from the employees was outstanding. By employees we mean the housekeeping staff, valet and shuttle drivers, servers, room service staff, etc. Even the summer interns working at the front desk and restaurants were great.
Now, the negatives. They have a management problem, bottom line. It's not that they are rude or incompetent, you just get the sense from the way they interact that they are inconvenienced by having to serve you. Some tangible examples. Upon arrival, the front desk manager was standing behind the interns like a statue waiting to pounce. No "welcome" of any sort from him. You could sense how nervous they were. I asked if a room upgrade was available (it's part of our Amex benefit) and was politely told they were sold out; but they had great water view with balcony. After we asked and while the intern was explaining this, the manager was shaking his head "no".
After getting settled in our room, we went to the Stars restaurant and inquired about having some wine and snacks by the water in the Adirondack chairs. We were sent to the Pub. The Pub bar manager was not the most pleasant person. We asked, again, about snacks and drinks outside. We had to order there and was told they'd "pack everything in plastic for us". Seems to be a rule that you can't have glass, real cutlery or plates on the grounds for safety. Bottom line, our $150 order of 2 drinks and 2 snacks was placed on a plastic tray which we had to take outside on our own (pack n go picnic style). I'm fairly self sufficient; but again 5-star hotel and what we're paying, we shouldn't have had to carry our own food through the front lobby and out to an Adirondack chair. As we strolled by the front desk, Mr Statue didn't offer to help in any way or even open the door. As we stepped outside, it started raining, so we reversed course and came back in. Same result, no offer to help open the door make alternative arrangements. I looked at him and said "paying $800 per night I didn't expect to have to carry my own food". Only then did he offer, which I declined out of frustration. So we ended up in the pub, eating our snacks off of plastic trays with wooden cutlery and drinking our $20 cocktails out of plastic cups. Recommendation-you have a stunning outdoor venue, it's summer, you are full, several guests enjoying it-have a server out there and provide an appropriate level of service. Oh, and I would re-evaluate that "plastic" rule. Devalues the place. Several other guests complained of the same.
After a nice dinner in town, we wanted to enjoy a 1/2 bottle of wine on our balcony. Went to Stars asked for a wine list by the bottle, matter of factly sent to Pub, again. Go to pub, they have no wine list. After 10-15 mins my wife walked back to Stars and demanded the list. Went back the Pub ordered and finally got the wine and glasses (real ones thankfully).
Turndown service was missed on our last night, not a biggie; but, again "little things".
Upon checkout Sunday, the front desk staff were just very robotic, never asked how are stay was, please come back, etc. Again, almost like they were inconvenienced.
TIPC has an opportunity to up their game, especially at management level. Fix the little things. Listen to your line level employees. Not 5 star, at least...
Read moreWords truly cannot express how exceptional the team at the Inn at Perry Cabin are. As soon as we decided to postpone the big wedding and hold an intimate ceremony and dinner with our siblings and parents - the inn was our place - with its stunning backdrop of the Chesapeake, its STUNNING garden dining area called “The Cove”, its gorgeous fleet, impeccable service, and truly remarkable facilities - the team jumped into gear and we were able to plan a wedding in 5 weeks seamlessly. The pool was amazing to relax by, the rooms were so clean and had beautiful views, the Pub is so fun for a laid back evening by the fire with such fun bartenders - and the food was absolutely delicious. It is such a beautiful and relaxing environment - we will be back every anniversary to celebrate!
We have absolutely no complaints, if you’re looking to have a wedding or event large or small - they can absolutely accommodate whether it’s on the bay or land - and it will be ABOVE AND BEYOND expectation! You will feel welcomed, confident everything will go as planned because of the amazing staff, taken care of beyond measure, and leave grateful and relaxed!
Emily, Wedding/Event Coordinator - from the beginning phone calls from my mom getting a general lay of the land, to her seamless transition of me taking over - she was our right hand and our day would not have happened without her. She communicated so well and quickly throughout this process, especially with frequent last minute changes due to COVID. She brought amazing ideas to the table, and worked diligently to make our day happen as efficiently and relaxed as possible. Working with Emily made the planning process so much fun and easy - she took everything she could off of my plate and helped us throughout the day. She was always available, set up all of our mementos at tables, place cards, etc. She was at the dock waiting to send us off and make sure we had food and drinks on the right boats, and greeted us at the dock when we came back. She truly made the day effortless and took care of so many details behind the scenes that my mom and I didn’t have to worry about anymore! She is such an amazing person and I feel so lucky to have gotten to work with her throughout the planning process and the day of!
The captains - They organized such a great night out on the water. Their experience made for a perfectly timed evening coordinating 3 separate boats to tie together for the wedding ceremony - they made the night! They were so accommodating with everyone, helpful, and were so much fun to talk to. They felt like they were a part of the wedding all along! They also last minute threw in a zodiac boat so our photographer could take far away pictures of the ceremony! They were truly amazing and so much fun to be on the boats with - highly recommend them all for their experience and a great time!
Ryan - the manager was amazing too! He consistently checked on us to make sure we were okay - and not in an annoying way! He made sure all of our luggage was secured and wedding gift bags were taken care of. We were a large and loud group and he made sure we were all situated and taken care of. He also ensured champagne and strawberries were delivered to us - he made us feel so welcomed and our stay/wedding was incredible because of his attention to detail and leadership!
Shout outs to Vivienne and Scott! Scott did such a great job running around to all the hotel rooms to deliver welcome bags, and get all of our luggage to the rooms quickly. He was running around and his effort was noted! Vivienne was amazing too - she dealt with a lot of phone calls from antsy moms trying to get ready and into the rooms before the wedding and was so kind and understanding. We...
