We returned to Inn at Perry Cabin today to walk the property and enjoy a nice family lunch overlooking the water. The property holds a special place in my heart, as we stayed here for our wedding and have had a number of “milestone” celebrations at the hotel.
Today’s lunch at Stars was horrendous. Before requesting a table, I inquired with the host about gluten-free options and was so happy to hear the crab cake was gluten free. Upon being seated, I informed our server about my gluten and dairy sensitivity and was told the crab cake was not gluten free...but that the crab chowder was gluten-free. I kindly let her know a cream chowder has dairy in it.
Our table decided on the garlic fries, two pub burgers (ordered medium-rare) and a crab cake with a side of fruit. The food took more than 25 minutes and there were only 4-5 tables in the restaurant. During this time the server didn’t check on us once. When the food finally arrived, after digging in I quickly realized the following: The fries were cold (and had cheese on them) Both burgers were well done and warm Both burgers came with nothing on the plate besides the burger and pickle slaw (no old bay chips per the menu)
Since we were dining with my 2-year-old there was really no option to send the food back. However, even if that were an option again our server was no where to be found. She never even came to check on us after the food arrived. We continued to eat the warm, below-average, exorbitantly priced meal as that was the only option. Finally, I did spot the waitress across the room and I had to flag her down. I let her know how terrible the meal was and while she apologized, she had nothing else to say. She again disappeared for 10 minutes. Upon spotting her again, I asked to speak with the manager. I was fuming at the the thought of paying for a $15 overcooked party of ground beef.
After waiting another 5 minutes (restaurant was empty), still no sight of anyone. I excused myself from the table and went to speak with the host. I again explained the scenario and asked to speak with the manager. He did eventually come out and we had a fine conversation. He listened to my concerns and apologized for the experience. He offered to take off one of the burgers and the fries, which I did appreciate.
I am so disappointed at today’s experience at Stars, as there is no place more beautiful to dine in St. Michaels than overlooking the river at Inn at Perry Cabin. But a four-star property has to do better, especially if they are going to charge the prices they are asking. I implore the management to address the management and training issue you clearly had today and do better. I do understand sometimes things go awry in a restaurant , but a top-notch well trained wait and management staff should be able to easily address these types of issues to make the customer feel better.
I hope to be back to Inn at Perry’s Cabin in the future and to have a...
Read moreWe just finished the four course tasting menu and I have to say that it was overall ‘JV.’ I understand that it’s off season (October), but for $200, the service and food should be top notch. The ‘amuse busch’, which by definition is meant to ‘tease the pallate’ was a crab bisque, which was ‘ok’ but we could have gotten that at any local restaurant on the Chesapeake. It was an appetizer, not an ‘amuse bousche’. Plus, it was served to us with teaspoons, not soup spoons, which was weird and awkward to eat from. The next course was a crab cake, which was good, but small (which is fine, because it was a tasting menu). The third course was a rockfish which was ok, but a little tasteless. The next course utilized all of the seasoning that the fish course was lacking. The hanger steak was served over some sort of vegetable mix with a TON of mustard and a sauce that was pure salt. The cut of meat was nice, but honestly, we couldn’t taste a thing but salt and mustard on the entire plate. The waiter never came to see how we were enjoying our meals. When we told him about the steak he just asked if we wanted to talk to the manager. We then were told that the dessert that was on the menu was no longer available so we ordered from the menu. We got sorbet, cheese cake (which tasted like it was from CostCo) and coffee. The desserts came as well as the coffee cups, but no coffee. For like 10 minutes. Overall, it was not a horrible meal, but considering the price that we paid, and the reputation of the restaurant and hotel, it was...
Read moreA beautiful location for a beautiful dinner. We came here as our "special night out" while on vacation, and it did not disappoint. While the food is expensive, the presentation and execution of each dish was done so carefully and thoughtfully. My husband had the salmon, and even though it wasn't something he would necessarily order again, he was still over the moon with the entire dinner. It should be noted that our server, Jacob, was the best server either of us ever had. He was thoughtful and patient, and added an extra layer of sophistication to the evening. In fact, it was the same with the entire staff we encountered. The hostess was quick and attentive to seat us as walk-ins on a busy Saturday evening, and our food runners were all courteous and attentive to details as well. The valet parking attendants were phenomenal as well! It was pouring rain when we walked out and that young man stood by the door the entire time to get me and my husband in our vehicle. I will remember extra cash just for this next time even though it is complimentary! All in all- you will spend $$$ but you will feel fantastic...
