I recently spent a night at the Ocean Resort, my third time staying at the property. Unfortunately, this experience was vastly different from my previous visits. Despite the cleanliness, I couldn't shake the feeling that both the Ocean Resort and its sister property are showing signs of wear and tear.
My ground floor Queen room was a compromise due to availability, and it fell far short of my expectations. The space was tiny, dark, and claustrophobic, with a permanently sealed window featuring cracked glass. The dusty, dark curtains only added to the room's dismal atmosphere. The overwhelming smell of cheap cleaning chemicals was the final straw, forcing me to leave the door and bathroom window open to alleviate the odor.
To my disappointment, the room had a cheap motel feel, contradicting the resort's advertised exclusivity. When the chemical smell finally dissipated, it was replaced by a musty smell indicative of poor maintenance. I asked at the front desk if there is a possibility of a room change, but both properties were fully booked. However, I sensed that the staff was aware of the room's subpar quality.
As someone with fond memories of the Ocean Resort, this experience was truly disheartening. I hope that management will invest in renovations to restore the property's former charm and exclusivity. Attention to detail and a focus on maintaining the resort's initial vision would go a long way in making stays...
Read moreBooked this hotel based on what I read on Trip Advisor, and glad I did! This was our first time in Montauk. I think this may not be the 'busy season' (late September - still pretty warm), as we found the hotel and beach not very crowded. The hotel is right across the street from the beach (cross the street and short path to the beach) and two blocks from town. Two of the rooms (2nd floor) have an (across the street-type) ocean view, and we were in one of them (room 110). The rooms were very clean. For the two of us, it was more than enough space. The walls may be a little thin as we could hear our neighbor's tv at night. There is a picnic table outside each room. The grounds were immaculate. The pool (which is shared with the Aqualina hotel - they're basically connected) was a good size and was a good temperature. There is a cute courtyard where you can help yourself to beach chairs and umbrellas as well as a post-beach bathroom and shower (both very clean). The young woman at the front desk, as well as all the other staff we ran in to, were very pleasant. Short walk to find places to eat. We had no trouble parking at the hotel, but often times it seemed every spot was taken - not sure if that becomes an issue when it gets busier. Overall, a great stay and would...
Read moreGood place in a great location with great service. Katerina is fantastic and made our stay easy and pleasant as well as the other staff we interacted with. It's just across the street from the beach, a couple blocks from shopping and restaurants and has most of what you need for the beach including towels, beach umbrellas and folding beach chairs included. Our studio queen room was clean and big enough. The bathroom was nice and the bed is firm but comfortable. We'll be back again next year.
Update 8-23-24. We come back and stay here every other year fit our anniversary. They have updated/ upgraded the rooms and office within the last couple years and now use wooden floors (probably a laminate) in the rooms which is great. Makes sense and prevents that sticky carpet problem that all beachside hotels have. The rooms are still otherwise plenty big and plenty nice. The location is directly across the street from a beach access point. They have parking and towels and beach chairs and beach umbrellas for free. Access to the heated pool next door included. Every member of the staff is still pleasant and helpful and smiley. It's just a happy place. I still recommend as a less expensive but just as good alternative to many of the higher cost...
