Well I went to rent a room again at Holiday Inn conference Center in Tyler and having made my reservation and paid for it I get to the front desk and I'm told that I am on the "do not rent" list canceled my reservation. The reason for this stems from an internal survey that IHG sent me on my phone in which I gave the staff and the housekeeping staff and the rooms great reviews that said everything was awesome they were friendly they were helpful and everything but I had an issue with a very unprofessional kitchen manager when I was visiting there on Christmas Eve. I had a bag that was tied up and covered with my jacket on the seat next to me, I went into the restaurant ordered some french fries and a drink and was signed up for karaoke. The kitchen manager who did not identify himself as a manager even when I asked to speak to a manager he said let me go get him instead of saying that he was the manager told them not to put me up on this and let me sing for karaoke and would not let the waitress serve me because of the box that I had in the bag that was not open or on the table nor did he ask what was actually in the box. They had a sign that said 'no outside food or drinks'.. the contents of the box where bones for my dog that I brought from somewhere else. I wanted to sit down sing a song and eat and then go to my room. Christmas Eve is my birthday by the way so it was my birthday. I did not feel like walking all the way to the extreme back of the hotel where my room was and come back up. I was going to eat, sing a song, then go to my room and lie down... I wasn't told by anyone that I was being refused to service, instead I was left sitting there for over an hour waiting for a drink and fries and to be called up for karaoke. When I asked to speak to a manager this person said let me go get them. He never at any point identified himself as the manager. So when I was sent this survey and this review thing I said that he was rude and acted unprofessionally. The next morning on Christmas Day, when going to pay for that day at the front desk I was informed that I would have to leave the hotel because , and let me quote this female manager correctly, "I gave the hotel a bad review" (which I did not) and I explained to her that I said everything was awesome I just had a problem with the kitchen manager's actions and I was told that, "if I have a problem with any facet of the hotel then I have a problem with the whole hotel and that I was not welcome there And they would not be extending my stay", then told me I had to leave. Note- what this manager did was illegal. It's called retaliation. You cannot put someone out of a business because they gave a review that you don't like. A review is just that ... it is a person's opinion of the place so that other people may judge by other people's opinions whether or not they may want to visit.. There is a thing in America we call freedom of speech and to retaliate against a review that did not meet her standards, much less prevent me from ever renting a room there again because I said that the kitchen manager was unprofessional, IN MY OPINION, is an outright violation of that freedom of speech and is also illegal. And,in fact, I wasn't even the registered guest. I was the guest of my friend that had rented the room so that we could spend my birthday together. I do still have the original review that I made on that Christmas Day and IHG will most definitely be contacted about this and I will seek to be reimbursed for the cost of my Uber to the hotel since the hotel did not notify me that my prepaid room was cancelled and upon arrival, I had to leave. I will say this is the young girl at the desk was sweet and very apologetic about the situation saying that the manager called down there and told her to cancel the reservations . Also, the young man and the gentleman that helped with my luggage were extremely helpful and very courteous. And these younger employees showed far more professionalism, tact, and care for customers than that rude manager ever has......
Read moreMy daughter and I took an overnight girls trip to Canton and Tyler, and we chose to stay here because of the value and ratings. We were greeted and taken care of by very friendly staff when we walked in, and the service was great. We had received two phone calls earlier in the day verifying what time we thought we might be arriving, the number of guests and type of room we wanted, and also asking what floor we’d like to be on. Everything was thoroughly organized and the check-in process was efficient. Our room was clean and a good size for us.
After getting settled, we were hungry and decided just to call in a carry out order and go pick it up. We knew there was a big event (50th reunion of some sort, we overheard) going on and decided we didn’t want to eat in the restaurant since it looked really crowded when we walked through the lobby. When we got back to our car, we were instantly concerned about the parking situation, though. There were cars circling around and a pickup with an attached trailer parked horizontally across 7 parking places. There was nothing we could do about it, though, since we had food to pick up, so we crossed our fingers and watched someone immediately pull into our vacated spot as we left. Fifteen minutes later, we found ourselves in a line of cars circling around like vultures, saying a prayer for a parking spot. We did eventually find one at the back of the lot that I’m assuming everyone else had avoided due to the mud in and around it. We were thankful just to find it, though. I understand it’s a hotel made for events, but designating an area just for hotel guests to use would be helpful in that situation. If there was an area just for that purpose, we never found it while cruising in line around the property. The lot was pretty empty the next morning, so it was obvious that most of the parking the night before was for people not staying at the hotel.
That really was my only complaint, though. Everything else was clean, comfortable and efficient. Being reward members means we had a later checkout time, so we could go get some breakfast and do a little shopping before we had to come back and officially checkout. That was nice. We would recommend staying here despite the...
Read moreMy husband and I recently moved and everything you can imagine went wrong, no water, no A/C, scorpions, etc. I found this hotel in my IHG club listing and decided that going here every few days, weekends minimum while we worked through all this would be the way to stay showered and functional.
Every time we go there, the front desk lady (I'm embarassed I can't remember her name) remembers us and is so welcoming, there is a cold drink and a snack in the 24/7 pantry and the bar/restaurant opens at 4:00.
The rooms are very clean and I will say it's quieter away from the elevator, but that is kind of a known in hotels. It is very quiet, the bedding is amazing, multiple pillows and I sleep like the dead when we go here. It is one of the most well cleaned rooms I've ever stayed in and I'm very picky about house cleaning.
We usually go down to the pool, it is a bit raucous with kids on holidays, but most days it is not at all crowded or loud and is perfect for just bobbing around enjoying the water and sun.
The finger food and the meals at the restaurant are very good, I had the 14oz New York strip on the last trip and it was really good. My husband had the chopped steak and was very surprised at the flavor and quality of what usually is just dressed up hamburger.
We really enjoy our sleep in when we go, but we had coupons for free breakfast and so we got up and hit the breakfast buffet. The offerings were very good, the bacon was plentiful and crispy to almost burned (perfect!). Katie took good care of us and checked to make sure we were set since they were starting to clean up (we were lastish).
I really feel like this is my home away from home. So much so that we have the major issues settled at our new house, but have talked about still going for a day stay on weekends when we can!
Literally the only negative thing I can say is the in room coffee is well, in room coffee. It's Kuerig but is just not that great. The coffee downstairs is fantastic though, so a bit of a walk and bam, good coffee.
Thank you to the entire staff at this fantastic hotel for making us feel so welcome and comfortable during a really...
