Reservations were made online on a Friday night 8/16; reservations scheduled for 8/17 and checkout 8/18 at Tyler TX location. Called to confirm reservations on Saturday due to late check in. During the telephone call, the receptionist in Tyler confirmed our reservation but the I was told that their policy at hotel is that they allow animals “cats and dogs” and I was asked if ok with that? I said we’re okay with animals even though me or my fiancé don’t have any animals. So we confirmed and hung up phone. So on our arrival after a night with class reunion in Tyler, we check into hotel and was given a room on the second floor. As we entered the room, the scent of dogs hit us like a brick. All we could smell was dogs.. as we begin to stay the scent of dogs became worse; the closets smelled of dogs; the beds smelled of dogs. We knew animals as pets were allowed but did not know we would actually be living in a room that smelled of dogs and other foul scents. My fiancé went to front desk and spoke with another desk clerk and explained how bad the room smelled so then we were given a room on the fourth floor. My understanding was that “construction workers” had been staying there for the past two months but there were no mention of pets being there. Now I’m wondering if the day desk clerk whom we spoke to on Saturday was calling humans who stayed there “dogs”?. We were not sure what really happened but it was a poor stay. We got very little sleep after moving to a different room on the 4th floor. This was the very first bad encounter we’ve had staying at Candlewood Suites in Tyler TX. Even after moving to a new room when it came to check out on Sunday, we explained to the day desk clerk our experience and we received no apology; no discount on the room; no nothings. I told the lady that I love dogs but did not know we would be sleeping with dogs because that is what the room smelled like; we received no apology! We will not stay at Candlewood Suites Tyler on Rieck Road ever again. DISAPPOINTED...
Read moreThis was a good place for a few nights stay. A 2-3 star hotel with appropriate service level and clean comfortable room. Everything in the room worked as expected. The room was nice and clean. Our room had medium size refrigerator with its own ice maker. The kitchenette was well stocked with pans and frying pan. It had everything you needed to make you meal on the go and cook while you stayed there. The hotel does not have restaurant but the mini kitchen was a good substitute if you are interested in making your own meal/breakfast or do light cooking. Coffee maker and to-go cups. Glasses, mugs and silverware... it was all there.
The hotel had a 'lending locker' in the lobby with blender, toaster, waffle maker and ton of other kitchenware to make it easy to make what you wanted to make including some serious cocktails.
Ample desk area and a recliner for added comfort.
The TV was smallish with local programming. No alarm clock and no additional USB outlets, both of which would have been great.
Onsite laundry facility or laundry service in the room is available.
There is a small gym with all popular exercising equipment available for free. An indoor pool would have been nice too but would not be a deciding factor for me. The lobby area is minimal with couple of chairs and a TV. There is a small but well stocked convenience items store which surprisingly had more stuff than I thought it would including larger food items etc. Very nice.
All sorts of convenience stores, grocery stores, restaurants and entertainment venues are a short drive away.
I always rate any place with a thought whether, all things equal, I will come back to the place. Yes... I would stay here again and plan my visit...
Read moreDon’t stay here. Starting off we booked with a third party (booking.com) apparently it booked us for a “handy cap room” so they made us switch rooms which was $50 extra that we had to pay up front. $100 deposit. Manager tells my mom (she went to pick up keys for us and it was booked in her name) she’s going to take the $50 off and not charge us for it. Great. So we only had to put the $100 deposit which she said we would get back when we leave. We get to the room and instantly my kids find men’s boxers on the shelf. Were there them away thinking maybe they just missed it. I then go take a shower where I find black hair in the tub. I was the tub my self and get in. I get out and notice it’s also by the sink. Again I clean it. There was makeup on my pillow. Which was flipped over with another pillow on top of it. I’m not a complainer so we just took the pillow and put it away. We then leave. My mom calls to complain about the hotel being dirty and to ask why she only received $45 back and the lady doesn’t even acknowledge the room being nasty. Then gives her a big run around on the money. First stating it was on the third party company we used to pay. Then changing her story to “oh I didn’t mean that I was gonna take the $50 off. I meant I was gonna take it out of your deposit.” The math isn’t even adding up for that scenario. Fact of the matter is they intended on screwing us over. They knew what they were doing. I will never stay at this hotel again. I ended up paying over $300 for a 1 star room. I didn’t think to get pictures of anything else but...
