I was surprised to hear from a coworker that there was a really good Thai restaurant in Union City, but I'm glad I trusted his judgement because this place was great! A group of 7 of us visited Five Stars on a Saturday night. We waited about 5 minutes to be seated while they arranged tables. The restaurant looked very clean and was nicely decorated.
We all had Thai iced teas and, while ordering, our waitress explained the dishes we had questions about. She also gave suggestions when we mentioned the dietary restrictions of one of our group members. The entrees took about 15 minutes and the 7 of us only had good things to say about the food. I ordered Ginger Curry--with plenty of fresh ginger and vegetables. I also tasted some of my friends' orders--Massaman Curry, which had a thick, well-spiced broth (I actually liked it even more than my own!), and the Pad Thai, which was a bit sweeter than others of the same I've had at different restaurants, but still good.
We then tried a few of the desserts--fried banana with coconut ice cream (crispy, sweet, caramelized-banana goodness), pumpkin coconut custard (light and not very sweet, with actual grated pumpkin as opposed to the canned puree I was expecting---not exactly for me, but decent), and mango with sweet sticky rice (creamy, coconut-flavored deliciousness!).
Our server was quite attentive, handing my friend a new fork within seconds of dropping hers, and coming by to see how were were doing while attending to the other 4 tables and answering phones. This is a place I will absolutely be visiting again and that I recommend to all looking for a Thai restaurant with fresh,...
Read moreLive in the are and wast told by many people that I had to try this place. Finally did, decided to pick up since it was New Year's and thought delivery could be a problem. From the look in the dining room, very cozy, clean and workable for a date night. we tried several apps and one main to go with our food at home. They were out of Veggie samosa's (disappointed) I have read this comment prior to coming here as well, so I hope they either start making them or remove them from the menu. The tofu triangle with crushed peanut sweet chili sauce... the sauce amazing and as long as you dip the tofu to soaking it was delicious. Otherwise it is just plain tofu. I used this sauce on a truly amazing app called crispy corm. The sauce that same with is very good, I was just hooked on the sauce from the tofu personally. Hy hunny loved the cucumber sauce the corn came with. The chicken wings and Thai sausages were good but I would try another selection instead of it being a staple for me. The drunken Noodles with chicken was absolutely fabulous. Just the right heat, the chicken pounded very thin and all white meat was used which is my personal preference. Can't wait to go back, sit down and have a meal. Menu a nice size. Parking not great, very busy area. Sunday the post office is closed and the "loading area" open up to park as well as meter parking spaces being open since other businesses are closed. That may be the best bet to get a space. Lucky for us we can walk if we truly want to eat there. I will also say there was a lot of take out going on when I was there! Many people coming in to...
Read moreIf I could give this place zero stars I would. The food was inedible. I ordered several dishesh. The appetizers were tiny, dry, and bland. The drunken noodles were a mushy disaster, the shrimp were overcooked and definitely not fresh. The red snapper was dry, unbelievably over cooked, smelled foul and spoiled. I took one taste and it confirmed my suspicion. It tasted foul and smelled waaaaaaaaaaaay too fishy to be fresh so it went straight into the trash. This place has a lot of nerve charging the prices they charge for the trash quality food they offer. -NEVER AGAIN.
*Update to my review to respond to the owner that commented on my review. As a matter of fact I have enjoyed eating amazing Thai food all over NJ & NYC over the past 20 years. So let me tell you as plainly and honestly as possible. -Your food is trash. Absolutely the worst "Thai food" I've ever had in my life. I'm not the only person that said the food I was served wasn't fresh -look at Nare N's review. I wouldn't have served that sticky rice to a dog let along a human being. Also, I am not the only person that left a review stating they threw the whole meal into the trash. The one thing we can agree on is most definitely that your place is not for me at all. When I spend my hard earned money (especially for the prices you charge) I expect the food to be fresh and at the very least EDIBLE.
"Thank you and...
