Disappointing Stay, but Stellar Staff at Hampton Inn Norfolk/Virginia Beach
My recent stay at the Hampton Inn Norfolk/Virginia Beach left me with mixed feelings. While the hotel staff was absolutely amazing and accommodating, the overall experience fell short of my expectations.
š Check-in and Staff: The check-in process was smooth, and the staff was friendly and helpful, even when I managed to misplace my key moments after receiving it.
š Room Experience: Unfortunately, the room cleanliness was lacking. The duvets were obviously dirty, so we opted not to use them. The mini-fridge's freezer was clogged with frost, causing its door to remain open. The room showed signs of wear and tear, with a huge black scuff mark and damaged door jamb. There were large scratches on the wall adjacent the blinds (that were exactly the same width as their opening, maybe 1/2ā wider). Additionally, a light bulb was missing over the desk, and the tub faucet leaked regularly, the [plugged] tub had about 2 inches of water when we checked in. This was the first time Iād ever checked into a room and questioned whether I should document the existing damages. And honestly, I probably would have if that call to the front desk wouldnāt have embarrassed me so much.
š§¹ Hotel Cleanliness and Maintenance: Common spaces were generally clean, but I spotted a few seats in the breakfast area that needed replacement (or covered). The common areas were CLEANED, they are just worn and old - and not what Iām used to seeing in any Hilton Brand hotel. The pool was closed. I donāt know why, but it was obvious it wasnāt a recent thing. This was NOT advertised or mentioned ANYWHERE. Can you imagine my dismay when my hormonal twin girls & I left the beach āearlyā so weād still have some time to swim in the hotel pool??? š¤¦āāļø
š Noise Disturbances: We didn't experience any disturbances during our stay, but our 300 lb heavy, uncontrollable door might have caused issues for our neighbors (maybe this is a door āadjuster thingyā that needs adjusting or something, I just know trying to open this door was not a one person job.
šØ Staff Service: The hotel staff (sans housekeeping) was the highlight of our stay, going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant experience. They texted me morning of check-in to check for special requests. I need to highlight āTaraā for that extra touch, as well as a female manager - I hate that I canāt remember her name ⦠maybe Frances? ⦠for handling my issue courteously and professionally.
š³ Breakfast: The breakfast served during checkout was delicious, and the staff there was super friendly and helpful.
š Location: The hotel's location was convenient, right off the interstate and about 30 minutes from the beach. If you're primarily visiting the beach, staying closer might cost you the same once you add parking fees.
š° Value for Money: Unfortunately, the overall quality of the hotel fell short of my expectations for a Hampton Inn. I could have likely found a similar experience and value closer to the beach.
Overall, my stay at Hampton Inn Norfolk/Virginia Beach served its purpose for a dirt-cheap beach vacation before school started for my 11-year-old twins that I promised under duress. While the staff was incredible, our room's condition, as well as overall hotel maintenance, left much to be desired.
Note: It's essential to know that my disappointment with the Hampton Inn Norfolk/Virginia Beach primarily lies in the hotel's maintenance and repairs. The staff was absolutely stellar, providing exceptional service that deserves a hotel worthy of their dedication and hard work. I sincerely hope that corporate takes notice of the maintenance issues and invests in improving the overall quality of the establishment. With the right attention to these areas, this hotel could truly shine and provide guests with a top-notch experience, just as the...

The staff was friendly however the hotel was severely understaffed and outdated. Upon check in, there was a leak from the ceiling just outside of our room and a bucket in front of our front door was placed to catch the dirty, smelly water with dead insects floating in it. Only ONE bathroom on the first floor was functional, only ONE ice machine worked, only ONE dryer in the laundry room worked...multiple equipment issues! Our room was not serviced ONE single time...meaning housekeeping did not come into our room once to make a bed or provide towels or take out the trash or do an express cleaning. Not once and we were there for 5 days. The second day of our stay there were not even towels at the front desk and we had to use pool towels until laundry was done in the evening and then the nice housekeeper brought them to us. She also came by the next couple days asking if we needed towels but that was it as far as service. We bagged up our own garbage and towels and set them outside of our front door. There was NO sign on our door requesting privacy either. Another huge concern was safety related. We did not feel safe at all in this hotel. There was a homeless man clearly on drugs sitting outside on the right side of the hotel for literally 3 days and no one from the Hampton knew about him or claimed they did not. So no security to check the premises? There was literally a trail of vomit and urine on one side of the hotel. This man ended up fist fighting police officers (after the front desk was finally asked to call the police) and the police beat him and cuffed him and took him into custody and our child witnessed this. The next day there was caution tape and a crime scene that we had to walk past as well. The garbage outside the entrance was overflowing and the breakfast area was dirty and not kept tidy during breakfast hours. The food was below average as well. I reached out to Hilton to share this experience and was told that a member of the hotel staff would be in touch with me within 3 days...that came and went with no response from the hotel. Very disappointed in this experience and would...
