These cabins are IMMACULATE!
To understand what my review really means, you should know that I have stayed in quite a few cabins in the past couple years. I do have a certain level of what I believe to be average and what I consider to be acceptable. The Badlands Frontier Cabins exceed all of that.
Taking a step back, first you drive up to the lobby where a very helpful and nice person will check you in quickly. You get a key per person! (It might sound odd to be happy about this but there are 3 adults traveling together and most hotels give two keys without your begging.) You can also get a glow-in-the-dark travel water bowl for your pup.
Your cabin will either face the highway but be buffered by a large apron of grass, or it will face a large grass field. When you get to your cabin, you just hold your key up in front of the lock. State of the art locks on metal doors with a dead bolt and security chain. (The door is so clean inside that the TV reflects perfectly.)
Because they knew we were coming, the air conditioner was already on. We opened the door to cool air, a very large flat screen TV, and 2 very tall queen beds. There were also 2 straight back chairs, a desk, a refrigerator, a microwave, an end table between the two beds, a ceiling fan. At the end of the cabin is a closet with ironing board, iron, sink, mirror and towels. In on the left is the toilet with a tub and handheld shower nozzle.
Even the vaulted ceiling of the cabin was perfectly clean and without a single speck of dust. All 3 windows opened well and could be closed off from the outdoor light as needed.
After sundown the buildings have lights on the outside so that you can always find your way around. The only drawback ... The cabins are not handicap accessible. The beds are 30" off the ground. The bathrooms all have bathtubs.
But the hospitality, cleanliness, level of facilities, design of the cabin, quality of everything the client interacts with makes this a 5 star location with 5 star...
Read moreWe chose this place for the location. My wife, my three kids and I stayed here last week May 1-3 2025 and paid a pretty penny for the two nights ($620). We arrived and unloaded our fully packed van into the room. We have a lot of luggage as one of our sons has very high medical needs with lots of equipment. We were excited to finally be settled in and rest. We needed the pull out couch for our disabled son and you can see by the picture it was completely unusable. There were stains on the extra blanket and pubic hair on the toilet. I went straight down to the office where I put in my complaint. The gentlemen working behind the counter was friendly and helpful but his manager was not. I could hear her on the phone saying “they need the room just just move them to a different cabin”. Her tone was annoyed and not helpful. I asked for a discount because of the inconvience and gross room. She said she could only do a $50 credit. I HAVE YET TO SEE THAT CREDIT!!!! The man behind the counter again was very kind and helped us move all of our stuff to another cabin in the pouring rain. The heating and cooling in the room was inconsistent and very loud and just like another complaint, the shower was terrible and ran water both out the shower head and tub faucet with terrible pressure. Beds are very high and tight against the walls so very hard to get in on one side. So our expensive “cabin” did not end up being the experience and convenience we had hoped for. They need better maintenance and management. Do not stay here!!!! And in case they try to say they didn’t have a guest with my name. It was...
Read moreWe just returned from visiting the Badlands and stayed at Frontier Cabins. Upon initial arrival, everything seemed to be in order and mostly clean, aside from a light odor of some type of cleaner that was off-putting. After unpacking, a member of our party had taken their shoes off and within an hour, it was noticeable how black their socks were. We all looked at our socks and they were all black (see picture). Their website states “serviced daily by our outstanding housekeeping crew”. I have never seen socks turn black within an hour of walking around inside a building anywhere; I think it would have been cleaner to just walk around outside. Unfortunately, we wore our shoes inside all the time since the carpets didn’t appear to have been cleaned in years. After returning home, we still smelled that off smell that was at the cabin, in addition to a smell like dog food, in a room where we placed all of our suitcases and bags (we have not owned a dog for 5 years or more). Then it became apparent that the off smell was a deodorizer to cover up pet smells in the cabin, like is used at a dog kennel. This is absolutely unacceptable to have such dirty cabins! Disgusting! They asked us upon check-in if we brought a pet because they charge a fee for them…well then use the money you collect to CLEAN the cabins after a pet stays, not just cover up their smell. We will never return or recommend this...
