We reserved the hotel because of the pool and the free breakfast. When we arrived, the pool did not have any water in it. We were not given any heads up notification (email, phone call, etc) that the pool needed to be painted and was not open. It would have been really nice to know since my reservation was made WEEKS in advance and the pool was planned on. Second, the "free breakfast" was actually gift cards to get a breakfast two blocks north, two more blocks west at a local bar and grille. So we had to leave the premises. When we got to the bar and grille, breakfast was only three options and did not include any beverages or sides. (French toast, pancakes or biscuits in gravy). No healthy choices, no protein, no toast or yogurt or oatmeal or cereal or drinks...unless we paid extra. So our "free" breakfast turned into a $24.17 expense and that was with not all of us eating! One mug of hot cocoa and one mug of coffee was almost $6 alone. That was a HUGE financial hit for the three days we spent at the hotel, since the free breakfast was included in our calculations of our trip. What a disappointment! We ended up not even using the gift cards.
The staff of the hotel was very friendly, which was appreciated, but I truly feel everything else was false advertisement. And trying to find a new hotel on the spot wasn't a possibility due to the travel season and the disruption of our entire vacation. I was so disappointed. ...
Read moreVery crowded town but the hotel was nice. Stay here, not Best Western. The lady at the counter was extremely nice. I got my room quickly and had no issues with our service dog (some hotels still try to restrict her, which is illegal).🏔️ I want to add that some of the low reviews are a bit over critical. This hotel is a great stay to get you a place to sleep when traveling a long way. There may be things that aren't the same as your home, but it's a hotel, everyone's preference is different. Me, I like a loud AC, it drowns out hotel noises. The pillows are hotel pillows, if you're that picky, travel with your own pillow. Complaints about a hotel being safe in a reported lightning storm. Your poor kids couldn't use the pool? Too bad. Fill the tub for them, and thank the hotel for their concern. An 86° heated pool in SD June/July heat is not going to be cold. You should be checked for anemia. We loved our bag breakfast. It was basic, reminded us of our old school lunches and we got to take it on the road with us! I'm sure it cost more than a few eggs and a piece of toast. As far as room smells, if you want them to smell like your home, bring a can of spray (or a dirty cat lol whatever your house smells like). Enjoy the different experiences people, that's the point...
Read moreKind staff who were quick to respond but non-functioning toilet is a deal-breaker for us. Staff were sent quickly to address issue (which clearly existed from before our arrival based on the poor functioning from even a basic water flush) but snaking and plunging didn’t help this far-gone toilet; it couldn’t be fixed without removing the toilet and it was already late, so they said they would be back for that in the morning. There were no extra rooms as the hotel was full, so we were left with a toilet that limped along. Honestly it felt unsanitary, and we worried about it overflowing. Again very kind staff that even went above and beyond printing a document for us the next morning, but a functional toilet is a baseline expectation. It shouldn’t have gotten this far one the first place before guests were allowed to stay. Also disappointed that the pool wasn’t available, as it was a main reason I booked this hotel having three small children. Overall feel the value was much lower than expected. The service was a bright spot, but didn’t redeem the hotel overall given the issues encountered. Felt unsanitary. Would not stay again.I feel a refund...
