I do not recommend that anyone stay here. I lived in the neighborhood for 10 years and have since moved out of the country so I was excited to try staying here when I came back for a visit. I stayed for four nights. There were many issues: -No full-length mirror in the unit, so I had to go check the mirrors in the elevator when I wanted to see how I looked (I would get in the elevator, let the doors close so I could see myself but not touch any buttons, then wait until the doors opened again to leave) -No Roku/Apple TV (which was advertised), and the cable went out frequently -Not able to connect more than 2 devices to the internet (so a laptop, phone, and iPad are too many) -No extra blankets, so I had to buy one from CVS -The advertised washer/dryer was a combo unit, which take forever to dry, which would have only been a minor inconvenience but mine was working so slowly that it would overheat and shut down, leaving me with a wet pile of laundry for days that I eventually ended up draping on cabinet door handles to dry -Microwave did not work (which is a problem when you have only a range and a microwave) -Peeling paint in the shower (see picture), which is indicative of the overall condition of the apartment — everything had seen much better days, there were stains and scratches all over the coffee table, gaps in the floorboards, etc. -The “workspace” was actually one of those coffee tables with a top that lifts to something kind of like desk height, but it’s slanted so your laptop will slide, and neither the couch nor the single cheap desk chair provided are actually a decent height for the “desk” once the surface is lifted -they text you regularly during your stay telling you to reach out with questions, but are slow to respond to time-sensitive inquiries -Common areas are advertised but were not accessible during my stay (which is fine, but should get a discount or warning when reserving) -Check out is 11am, and you are charged $75 for a late checkout at 1:30pm or an additional night for anything beyond 1:30pm (which is both early and expensive—shouldn’t be both!)
I will say that the front desk people were lovely, and I appreciated that I could receive packages during my stay. However, I cannot recommend this place to anyone—especially not for the $300 per...
Read moreI stayed a week at Placemakr DuPont while on business, I had a courtyard basement room in the older part of the building, and it was a great sized room for the money and location - a nice high ceilinged room with a kitchenette with washing machine/dryer, dishwasher, fridge/freezer etc. Also has great wifi throughout and new rooms with big TVs and Dish, ||The location is superb, right on Dupont Circle so close to Metro and walkable to downtown. The building overall is fantastic, a glorious historic mansion with communal spaces that would rival many local luxury hotels. you could easily host informal business meetings here, and during my stay some companies had rented the lovely library rooms for evening events. Desk staff were friendly and helpful, i ordered a postal delivery during my stay and they received it and held it for me. The entrance to the building and your room is via a single unique keypad code, so very easy self check in and check out.||This would be an outstanding 5 star review but for a few minor points. I had a basement room which meant there was light coming in through the windows but no view. Which is fine and was reflected in the great value pricing. But they need to put soundproofing into the floors above as every step the guest above took was loud. I bought earplugs and slept well but lighter sleepers than me will find this a problem - and there is street noise in the older, lower floors as Dupont Circle is a busy place. Also it was lovely to have a capsule pod coffee maker but a refresh of new capsules would be welcome! i ran out after a couple of days (a Keurig machine if you want to bring your own).||Otherwise it's highly recommended and great value for location and quality, I will...
Read moreCHAOTIC and INCOMPREHENSIBLE check-in procedures.
We arrived slightly after midnight. The doors were locked. We rang the bell to try to hv the security guard to open the doors for us, but she did not (we later were told she did not have the authority to).
Luckily a guest allowed us in. The guard told us we had to use the ipad at the lobby to check in. The ipad check in process could not work completely cos its camera could not auto-capture data from a passport. Then a lady’s voice appeared through the ring camera to help with it manually.
The lady then asked to provide the room number and code by saying them out loud through the ring camera speaker and having us jot them down manually. Did not expect that in 2025 at all. I asked for an email and got the room number and code. Took our luggage all the way to the room and the code did not work. Went back to the lobby and lady provided another code. Did not work. Lady finally succumbed and gave us another room. This time it worked. So 3 ROUND TRIPS between the lobby and a room because their code system is ineffective.
This took 40 minutes at least, could be longer.
At one pont I asked why no instructions were sent via booking.com so that we knew in advance we had to check in through a ring camera. The lady said thats because they dont have our email. If the hotel is using agent websites then the hotel should be communicating with guests on the agent websites (as all other hotels would).
Room is otherwise well-equipped and spacious. Noise...
