I checked out of the hotel early and spoke with the front desk clerk about my stay. Having worked at a hotel in that very same position, I kept our conversation convivial as my grievances were written down to be shared with management. I lay the fault of my experience at the feet of the owners, not the on-site management.
I chose this hotel specifically for its ADA rooms. I spoke with a live agent who consulted with Marriott’s ADA team to confirm that the rooms are outfitted for people with disabilities. What neither I nor the agent could have predicted was the hotel’s inability to accommodate people with disabilities on the property.
The automatic door for the hotel was not operational. I asked a member of the front desk when the door would be fixed, and I was assured that a hotel engineer was addressing the problem. That door was never fixed during our stay.
There are simply not enough parking spaces for the hotel, and certainly not for the number of cars with handicap placards. After the first evening of returning to the hotel and having to park behind the hotel and push my family member’s wheelchair a considerable distance to the front door, I asked if the hotel provided valet. I was told valet is not available, despite the back parking lot having visible spaces reading “Valet Parking Only.” The hotel proposed I park in the adjacent business and we could be picked up / dropped off. Returning in the evening, parking in an adjacent lot, and calling the front desk to request someone come pick us up, along with a wheelchair, is ludicrous.
The hotel amenities include an indoor swimming pool that needs to be drained and scrubbed. In the pool, we saw smiley faces scrawled into the dirt where tiles indicated pool depth. There were also dead moths on the bottom of the pool that needed to be removed. Leaving the pool, our skin immediately began to itch. I have to wonder if the hotel's solution for keeping the pool "clean" is simply adding pool cleaner. But to the point, the hotel needs to drain the pool completely and scrub those tiles until all visible traces of dirt have been removed.
Our room overlooked the outdoor balcony adjacent to the pool on the second floor. I suspect people sneak an occasional cigarette on the balcony as you could smell smoke every now and then in our room. The wallpaper in the bathroom is beginning to peel, and the ADA seat in the shower was showing signs of cracking. The bolts were also visibly pulling away from the wall, and that needs to be addressed for guest safety.
A lot of hotels have adopted refillable pumps for shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. Somehow we were out of shower gel after our first night. I alerted housekeeping and the problem was resolved when we returned later. The coffee machine was refilled with coffee and creamers… but no cups. What threw me for a loop was returning to the room and finding our personal belongings in the bathroom had been tossed out. It was 10pm, so I doubt housekeeping was still on site to help me track down where my personal belongings went, but none of them were placed in the one receptacle that needs to be emptied.
If you are not traveling with disabled family members or friends, your experience will no doubt be better than ours. But for those who need ADA accommodations, this hotel has a lot of work to do to improve its services.
Do not use the swimming pool unless you can see your smile in the tiles, and not someone's finger drawing...
Read moreI had my wedding in September at the Westin and things did not go as I had planned. At first we were thrilled to find a venue where the costs seemed reasonable, and everything from the rehearsal to the ceremony, reception and hotel rooms were all in one location. But the experience started to take a turn towards the worse. First, we ended up have (3) different event coordinators throughout the experience. I had to visit with each one, repeating the same thing over and over. It appeared no one took notes from the visits, and they claimed all previous email correspondence was lost due to their email system changing. The planning process was repetitive, frustrating and exhausting. THEN, the main issue I had was on the day of our wedding. NOTHING was set up and ready for us, from the ceremony space to the reception space. The reception (Lake House) still had old chicken on the floor from the previous event that hadn't been cleaned. No soap or toilet paper was in the restrooms. Several wall sconces weren't working. There was an open electrical outlet that was a fire hazard, especially for any children. My fiancé and soon to be mother-in-law spent several hours basically setting up EVERYTHING. That completely stressed them out and took away time from them to get ready and enjoy the day. That added stress was the last thing we needed!!! At least the food and drinks were good - after they nickel and dimed everything. I can at least recommend the prime rib. AND THEN the rooms - we had to purchase the bridal and groom suites for (2) full nights, they wouldn't let us use the rooms for just the time we needed (that morning and afternoon) due to their check-in / check-out policy. That's not to mention when we first tried to check in to the rooms the night before, they wouldn't let us check-in until close to 8pm because they allowed the previous guests to stay as long as they wanted. It turned out the University of Wyoming football team booked up 3 whole floors that apparently took priority over us and left us feeling not so important. That's not to mention the football team took up our rehearsal space that we planned beforehand, and we had to ask them to leave ourselves with no help from the hotel. The room keys didn't work half the time. We had to constantly go down to the reception deck and ask for new ones. By the end, we had about 20 different room keys for just two rooms! And the rooms themselves are quite beat up and run down with scuff marks everywhere, beat up cabinets and furniture, and old bathrooms with moldy grout. For the rehearsal lunch, we had it at the grille there at the hotel. We found out they renamed it to the Spotted Donkey which is a terrible name. The food here again was good, I'll give them that, but for some terrible reason they thought it was a good idea to offer only one waiter for 25 people and it happened to be his first day on the job! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE WESTIN WESTMINSTER AT ALL FOR ANY KIND OF EVENT...
Read moreIt is with a heavy heart that I am forced to leave an HONEST review of my husband and I stay here at The Westin Westminster. We stayed on Saturday 4/6/24. We booked through Expedia. In this failed attempt at a stay-cation (we are locals) we had a terrible experience all around. From check when the front desk staff didn't even bother to let us know there was breakfast available at the Kachina restaurant or even to help us find the elevators. He was so rude when he gave my husband back his card and the key to the door that it almost fell to the ground. When we finally got up to the room on the third floor, there was a dirty baby sippy cup in the corner of the room, the sheets were dirty and stained...the tv didn't even work so we could relax and watch a movie... the phone was an old cordless phone THAT ALSO DIDN'T WORK.... the bathroom was dirty with writing on the walls. The handle to turn on the shower was also broken and tightened so hard that we couldn't even get the dang water to turn on. The outlets wouldn't even hold our chargers in them to charge our cell phones. When we called the front desk from our dying phones we were basically told that because we booked with Expedia ( a third party) they didn't have to help us. So I guess the 290 bucks we spend to have a break from high stress jobs and 4 teenagers...... was for absolutely nothing. Not to mention another 100 for the deposit at the hotel. Then in the morning when we were checking out we AGAIN mentioned all the above to Jocelyn at the front desk who told me she didn't have to help us because we booked with Expedia and I even showed her pictures of the room and everything she refused to look at the pictures and told me that I am blind.
The food at the restaurant is also mediocre for the price we paid to stay there and appropriates on Southwestern and Indigenous culture. First of all this is Colorado not NM.... and a fried bread taco should AND doesn't resemble a 3 day old stale taco bell gordita. We can't even say that food made up for it either.
Spend your hard earned money elsewhere. We travel alot both for business and leisure and have NEVER experienced discrimination like this before. We were excited to stay there but now I wish we would have just stayed home.... even MOTEL 6 would have been better then this. Save your money.... remember that people treat you how the feel about you. It should not matter how our room was paid for. The services and the room should have been the same without exception. Everytime I drive by here now I feel sick to my stomach knowing that the staff there are discriminitive and the rooms are trash. BUT I GUESS THAT IS WHAT A TOTAL OF $390.00 GETS YOU AT THE...
