The Butterfly Pavilion is so much more than its name suggests. When you enter you step into an entymological wonderland. From a wide array of arachnids (I got to hold a Chilean Rose Hair tarantula!!!) to some of the most beautiful insects you've ever seen. The displays are perfectly sized for individual viewing. Take your time and enjoy each exhibit, looking closely for the insects in the terraria. There are informational plaques on each vivarium. The water invertebrate collection is stunning and one of my favorites. There you can view all kinds of fascinating creatures. Take the opportunity to touch starfish and horseshoe crabs!
The butterfly house holds over 200 species of plants from around the world and countless species of butterflies. I cannot stress enough how important it is to take your time. Read the information on display, relish the sound of the stream meandering through the exhibit, and let your eyes lead you through a world of color and grace. Think that butterfly is brown and boring? Watch as the wings open to shock you with an iridescent blue delight! Look under every leaf. Stand still as butterflies fly around you. Pause in wonder as one lands on your arm or hand. There was even a wedding being held later that evening amid all that flora and fauna. I imagine it was magical.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time here and will definitely visit again when we're in town. An important note: I am 33 as of this review. I saw all ages at the pavilion, though many were children. My advice here is twofold. Anyone of any age will find something that speaks to them, so never think you are too old to visit. As for parents with children, taking time may not be in your child's repertoire. That's ok! I saw kids stop dead in their tracks at various displays. It may be one thing that captures your child's attention and fascinates them. That alone is...

Read moreIt was a magical place, from the entrance with the bees and spiders and scorpions, and Rosie(:D), to being able to touch some sea stars and horseshoe crabs, and knowing that they've got a safe space to get inside if they get overwhelmed is amazingly considerate. Then on to the Wings of the Tropics. It was GORGEOUS. Beautiful doesn't even begin to describe it, words barely hold any meaning for this place. It truly feels otherworldly, and I had the pleasure of taking someone there for their very first time! I think everyone should go at least once just get an experience out of it, and the gift shop has you really engaged with items ranging from plushies for the younger kids, to Legos, to some framed beauties that you can display around your house. Will definitely be going again soon. Oh, and the best part? Even in the middle of December, the 22nd is when I visited, it's still nice and warm and safe for all their creatures. Much love to these hard workers 💘 12/22/23
Edit: YEP! WENT AGAIN! FINALLY! It was still just as exciting and enchanting, I was glad to see different bugs out, got the chance to see Rosie's babies, saw an orchid mantis(❤️), and overall still had a great time! Got to take another person for the first time and, while they didn't enjoy it quite as much, it was still a good place to be and amazing to experience again! 07/11/2024
The first picture break is just after you can see the person in the photos holding Rosie, for any wondering the difference between...
