PROS/CONS of a nice stay overall at DruryPlaza - Westminster Colorado PROS: -The rooms on the upper floors were incredibly quiet at all times of the day/night despite the sometimes bustle and crowds of the lobby -The beds, linens, and pillows are very comfortable; -The Suites were huge, almost like an apartment, and the sofa, chair, ottoman furniture were comfortable to sit on, unlike other hotels; Lovely Colorado artwork and photography throughout the room -Popcorn machine!! Great fitness room but oddly placed, as you need to go through restaurant to get to -The shower/tub and the bathroom were great with temps and pressure -The area was convenient and felt safe to us both days and nights over the course of a week (but always hide your valuables anyway - one woman reported a break in I believe); -The housekeeping was friendly, timely and thorough; You have options to utilize it, or skip it and earn extra points -All the staff were helpful, hardworking, and professional. Views- We had requested and really wanted the top 7th floor but were given the 6th floor which ended up being fine. We were in an odd- numbered room facing south. It offered a pretty side view where we could see the mountains, and just outside the building we could see a bike trail/wetland area that got constant use by guests and others. No highway noise on our side of building -The area is convenient to expressways, and within walking distance to gas station, restaurants, and shopping -They are very generous with their varied breakfast offerings and what they call dinner snacks, as well as limited free drinks. CONS: We had trouble with the HVAC in the suite- it takes a very long time (days) to come to the desired temperature so if you want to keep the bedroom cool for sleeping you will have to freeze in the living room all week, and there was not a solution offered when we asked/reported the issue. I believe it only happens with the 2 room suites? -There was no discount for staying eight days, seven nights -You have to wait a while for your points to get posted to your account -Suite charges varied from $150 to $300 depending on the night which seemed an extreme range. -TV service, stations, remote very lacking compared to any other hotel chains we stay at. Not a big deal, but noticeable with an 8 day stay -No outdoor seating to relax and visit or have your meal other than a bench or two at the entrys/exits. This is unfortunate since the area is pretty and you can see the mountains from outside the hotel, but you have to just stand -Lastly (and this can happen at any brand hotel, not Drurys fault)- people tend to go out for a cigarette right at the entrance, so although it's a smoke-free hotel you have to walk in and out of the smoke at times. I think there should be an obvious designated smoking area further away, better for those with kids or with allergies as they walk in. In summary, it was a nice stay. If it wasnt for the HVAC issues, the varied rates, and the lack of outdoor seating it would be a 10/10 for us. It is a very comfortable and quiet hotel suite; the staff makes you feel welcome; and we did get restful sleep : ) Hope...
Read moreWe stayed at this Drury Inn a few weeks ago for work. We will absolutely not be returning. As avid Drury customers, we love the Drury name and are always happy to see that there is a Drury location wherever we travel. Out of the 3 managers we had close interactions with I can definitely say the management at this location is subpar at best. In the middle of our stay, we had to switch rooms. Within an hour of being in the first room, a member of their staff (without knocking) entered the room, ignoring the sign on the door. I was about to shower and luckily I was dressed. 2 days later, I was sleeping during the day while my husband was at work. I was not dressed and not awake when a manager took it upon himself to attempt to enter my room because I didn’t answer right away when he knocked. At this time, there was a sign on the door indicating that I didn’t want to be bothered, as well as the privacy latch being on. Had the latch not been on the door, the manager would have been in my room while I was unclothed and not at all ready to answer the door. I threw some clothes on to go to the door (still half asleep) and the manager, as well as 2 other people were standing there. The manager then demands that I give him all of our towels-or he would have to enter my room and get them himself. To say that this behavior was inappropriate is an understatement. Later that evening when my husband was back at the hotel, my husband and I went to the front desk to bring this to their attention. The female manager who was on staff at that time basically just told me to “calm down” and that she didn’t have anything to do with this and therefore really couldn’t do much about it. She indicated that this was part of the “special terry project” which is code for the fact that they are removing the linens and replacing them because they are remodeling. This could have been explained nicely when the manager came to our door or even handled with a simple phone call to our room and we could have brought the towels down or arranged for them to get them later. We come into town once a month every month and normally stay at the Denver Tech Center Drury location. 100% worth the drive to stay there. The Westminster Drury left me feeling vulnerable and like anyone could enter my room at any time without permission. Management is not welcoming and does not handle issues. Kickback staff literally has an attitude and acts like they hate their job. The entire hotel is under construction and they don’t bother to mention this to anyone before booking so when we were there, the entire lobby had the flooring torn out and there was noise and dust during the day. Just 100% go somewhere else. Beautiful rooms and remodel. It’s a shame the management is so poor....
Read moreService was great and friendly. FOOD; Free hot breakfast AND free dinner is a huge bonus. At this price range I have never seen the level of amenities that are included. However both meals are pretty simple, with like 2 aide dishes and 1 main. I stayed 3 nights and 2 of those nights had the exact same meal. All 3 nights, the main dish was pork based, which I don't eat. But, they also have fancy leafy greens salad available which is lovely and I rounded out with a cup of soup and a side like Mac & cheese, baked beans, or mashed potatoes.i did wish there was more variety especially for stays of more than 2 nights, but .. it was still free so..... can't complain much! Lol
You can also get 3 free alcoholic drinks per night! I don't drink, but I think that is quite generous. Also, they have a popcorn machine going all afternoon / evening with free popcorn.
ROOM; As for the room, it was clean and felt fresh and updated. Beds were super comfy.. bathroom felt spacious.
So why isn't this a 5 star review? I had a handicap accessible room. The bathroom floors are like slick marble or something. VERY slippery! Extreme dangerous especially if you have some balance or mobility problems! Similarly, at the nice hot tub and pool area, the floor is tile and it is very slippery. One step and my knee popped out (this is a thing that happens to me sometimes anyways especially on slipper surfaces, thankfully this was not one of those horribly painful times) and started to fall bit caught mysf on one of the chairs. Some kids were playing in the pool and I saw 2 of them slip and stumble tho they managed not to fall. I'm concerned that it's only a matter of time for someone to slip and Crack their head on the tile floor or something. Who ever thought smooth tiles were a good idea for floors in wet areas?
Another thing I'm marking down ; there are the modified simplified remotes for the TV. These do not let you access any options which is especially problematic for specific needs or equitable accessibility. For exa.ple, there is NO way to turn on closed captions.
So, while I think this hotel was an excellent value at $100 a night and would stay here again, there are some safety and accessibility concerns that I would really like to see addressed.
Just a brief addendum that doesn't affect my review rating; there is a paved walking /biking trail along a creek behind the hotel. It would be an awesome feature to advertise because it could potentially be a great nice spot for a quick walk. However... it's nasty. Trash everywhere, clogged up culverts with gunk and trash, making it crazy thick with mosquitos...
