Heritage Inn Whittier CA — Hotel in Whittier

At check in gave the clerk my ID and credit card. Several minutes later she came back tossed my cards through the slot under the security window and said "you don't have a reservation here". Went out to my car to retrieve the confirmation number (should have had it with me) and returned to the office. Showed confirmation #, got heavy attitude bordering on hostility and clerk walked away to computer. 10 minutes later, with assistance from what I presume was her husband, she tossed the paperwork under the window for me to sign and told me there was a $10 deposit if I wanted the phone turned on. Signs everywhere stating I had something like 20 minutes to request a room change. (Reservations were non-refundable.) Got to my room and it was filthy. I can't describe what was caked on the bathroom floor! Returned to the office, more ATTITUDE,showed anther room that was acceptable although there was a 1"+ gap under the door and roaches were everywhere outside. (Blocked the door gap with a towel). Later, turned on the TV and it was set to a hard core adult channel. Fortunately I didn't have small kids with me! Signs everywhere saying no pets, yet as I was unloading folks several doors down exited their room with two large dogs. There are much better places...

1st - The staff was extremely rude.||I booked the room knowing I would be leaving after work and making a 5 hr drive to get there. I called at 6 pm to let them know that I would be arriving after 11. All seemed fine. I called again at 10 to speak with the night person and to reconfirm because it was looking closer to arriving at 1 am. The lady gets mad at me that I am not there yet, telling me that If I have until 10:30 or shes canceling my res. After dealing with her rude attitude for a few minutes, someone else got on and said ok.||2nd - We arrive and they don't have a non smoking room that I reserved.||3rd - the room was gross and stunk!!! The whole property looked rundown.||but it was late.||4th - We were in town to take friends to the train station. We were checking in and then gonna leave to drop them off. The night guy was stalking us and when he saw more than 2 people got out of the car, he pounced. Told us we had to leave. When I explained that we just drove 5 hrs and that were leaving again to go to the train station. He said you have 5 minutes and was gonna wait there. ||Then he said for visitors we had to pay $30 cash.||At first I paid, but by this time I just barely saw the room. Annoying housekeeper kept knocking on the door before checkout and then multiple times as I was taking my things out to my car. The day before she forced me to give her all my towels and then never brought me new ones. Then the next day when the bathroom was wet because I had no towels the woman who owns the place came to the front desk when I was checking out and getting a receipt and told her husband not to give me back the deposit because the room was dirty. First of all the room was dirty when I got there and smelled like vomit was half the size of the room I had the day before and I could hear through the thin walls very easily probably due to the fact that there were dozens of holes of all sizes even though it cost more. There were several roaches in the room and the cap to a needle on a shelf. They started cleaning my room before I left because of the rooms are rented to long term residents so they only have 5 or so rooms they rent out nightly. Didn't ever see them changing the bed sheets on any of the rooms just taking out the towels. Probably reuse them over and over before...
