The trip was going well until we were threatened to be kicked out over our SERVICE dog on the second day in front of multiple guests in an embarrassing interaction with a staff member I think named Leslie. My family was walking down to the beach, we made it about 20 ft down the street when we realized we forgot wipes/poo bags for the 2 dogs (one service animal, one emotional support) and I walked my mother back to grab them. Staff was outside and called me by name to say the dog is not with my mother and per ADA has to be with her at all times. We expressed that she’s just down the road, you can wave at her and we just needed to get our doggy bags and she repeated the same phrase so I tried to explain that we’re walking back to our dog now and my moms levels were already taken for the morning and we just needed wipes and she begins to get louder and say “YOU’RE SERVICE DOG IS TO BE ATTACHED TO YOU AT ALL TIMES PER ADA GUIDELINES, YOU SIGNED THAT YOU HAVE A DISABILITY AND IF I SEE YOU WITHOUT YOUR SERVICE DOG I WILL ASK YOU TO LEAVE.” At this point my mother is upset that she’s shouting about her having a disability and trying to explain the dog is just about three cars down and we can see her and we just needed an item from the room and staff just shouts again “I WILL KICK YOU OFF THE PREMISES IF I SEE YOU WITHOUT THE DOG AGAIN.” We walked away, there was no need to further escalate, we drove 8 hours the day before and we were only staying 1 more night. But this truly soured things, it was completely rude and unnecessary and the worst part? Those aren’t even the guidelines. So let me clear this up, per ADA straight off the government site- “ADA does not require a service dog handler to be with their dog at all times. While service dogs must be under the handler's control, this can be achieved through various methods like a leash, voice control, or hand signals, not necessarily constant physical presence.” My mother has control over her service dog, dogs are both less than 6 pounds, barely speak, crate trained, potty trained, service trained. We were in eyesight of OUR service dog who was standing with my father just down the street. They need to familiarize themselves with the proper ADA regulations if they’re going to threaten in front of multiple people to kick us out just because our service animal wasn’t attached to my mother’s hip in that moment. Many guests approached us later in the day asking about the interaction, after spending almost $2000 for 2 rooms that were outdated, with little warm water, and an AC that took 2 hours to finally cool the back room we were in, this was truly a bad experience. Separated from my mothers room, my sister and I stayed in a 3 bed with our 4 teenage girls and though we showed up a bit late, there were only 4 towels.. I mean in a room with 3 guest beds and my reservation clearly says 6 total staying.. you could have already put 6 towels total. Thankfully we brought our own anyway. Overall, it was not...
Read moreJust finished our third stay at the Beach Colony and I thought they deserved a favorable honest review. If you have pets, need a short stay, don't mind the typical high pricing for any hotel during the summer season down at the shore, adequate facilities that is clean ( overpowering at times, yes, but I like the smell of clean ) , inside and out, then this is the place for you. As they say, cash is king. So if you pay cash, there's a 5% difference in rate. If you pay with credit card, expect that 5% extra. If you are bringing pets, the extra fee per night is $34.10 per pet. This is fee is only payable in cash. As other reviews have mentioned, if you're not a fan of pets, this is probability not the place for you. Yes, there is some barking as doggies cross pathes, but during our three stays here, never was a problem or an annoyance. Leslie, the general manager / host is pleasant to work with. If travelling with pets, they encourage you to call to reserve your room. They also have their own website to book rooms. Probably best to book directly with them as I have seen reviews where bookings were lost or not honored perhaps thru using third party sites, but not sure on that one. However, if they have a room, Leslie will get you setup. Yes, some rooms do not have the best views as this is your typical doo wop area L shaped motel, that's 2 floors, and no elevator. As a matter of fact, the steps can be a little tricky to navigate. At least 2 rooms, one on each floor is tucked into the L of the motel, so yes these rooms face a blank concrete wall near the ice bin and laundry / housekeeping areas. Parking is tight. They have one space for each room, but spots are narrow. So if you have a big rig, I had a RAM 1500 there, parking can be snug. Is it a resort? No, but they don't charge you a resort fee like others for use of the facilities. They have a pool with a slide, some outside seating area, ice machine and a couple of grills, that's their resort. Every room we have stayed in was clean with average furnishings and most if not all include a coffee maker, mini fridge and microwave. Check their website for room configurations, some have a small kitchenette too. Again, not a resort, no coffee or coffee filters are included, you'll have to bring your own. If your looking for a place where you can bring fido, have nice hospitality and clean rooms, this is the place to stay for a short trip. Excellent for the pet lovers, probably considered average for the...
