Sun Dog on the Beach — Restaurant in Wildwood Crest

NOT SO HIDDEN GEM!! As the boyfriend of a Celiac, it is difficult to find places to eat when my girlfriend and I travel. It is even more difficult to find a place that makes Gluten Free fried foods. I was recently in town for a Wedding, and came across across Sun Dog on the Beach on my Gluten Free app. I called John, and he was so accommodating and kind!! He assured me that my girlfriend and I would be safe eating the food here, as the breading contained ZERO wheat ingredients. I ordered the fish and chips, fried shrimp tacos, and chicken tenders. This food is AMAZING!!! A SERIOUS little known secret (that people who don’t know a Celiac personally may not have the chance to know) is that gluten free fried foods are even crispier and taste better than wheat based breading or bread crumbs. As a non-celiac myself, I can eat both... I prefer gluten free breading on fried food goods. And this place takes the cake. Wow! What an amazing find!! We just ate one of the best meals we have ever had in Wildwood and we have been coming down for 40 years (since I was 6). It’s more of an “order at the counter and sit by the ocean watching the sand and waves” kind-of-place. They have nice tables with benches in their outdoor seating. The fish and shrimp and sun puffs were phenomenal. And they just so happen to use gluten-free breading but you would never be able to tell otherwise!! The chicken fingers were fresh and homemade. The taco ingredients were fresh and flavorful. Can’t say enough about this amazing establishment. We met John, the owner, and he is extremely personable and kind. This restaurant deserves every 5-star review it has ever received! Will definitely be making this an annual tradition in our family....

Clean place right on the beach that serves tastey and fresh food.

I had the pork tacos and the pork was well seasoned with black beans, fried onions, crunchy slaw and a spicy sauce on top. My only only criticism would be the small amount of pork on these large soft taco shells.

Worth a stop and I would definitely visit again.

And we have returned, several times. This time for dinner. Burgers and tacos.
