Pet friendly hotel in a great location on the river with views of the river and Battleship North Carolina across the river.
First, everyone was super friendly and helpful. From the front desks clerks to the lady running breakfast on the 3rd floor to just saying hello to the cleaning staff.
Second, great location on the river walk. The river walk goes right by the front and side of the hotel. We could walk out our door and in 10-20 ft be on the river walk. You can go left or right from the hotel on the river walk and there are plenty of things to see and restaurants available.
We stayed with our small dog in a pet friendly suite with a separate bedroom and living room. I don’t know if all the rooms are pet friendly or just the ones where we were on the first floor. The hotel has a small enclosed pet bathroom area right outside the first floor area we’re our room was at the end of the line of rooms. The river walk is also pet friendly and you will see lots of dogs being walked and people jogging by. The river walk also has pet stations every so often with pet business bags and deposit containers.
You walk outside along the back of the rooms to get to your room but the walkway is covered. This is because the front of the rooms face the river with the view. Our room was very nice with a tv in both the living room and the bedroom. The bathroom was a good size with a walk-in shower! In the living room there was a table/desk, sofa with a pull out bed, chair with a pull out footstool and smaller flat screen tv. In the bedroom there was also a work desk and chair, nice and soft bed, larger flat screen tv and great views of the river walk and water. In between the bedroom and living room there was a section with a mini fridge, counter, coffee maker, and the door to the bathroom. There was a door that can be closed to the bedroom.
Breakfast was in a small area on the 3rd floor each morning and was very good. Even though the area was a little small, it wasn’t crowded and there were tables available if you wanted to sit and eat or take it back to your room. The selection was very good with hot (eggs, bacon or sausage, potatoes) and cold (cereal, boiled eggs, yogurt, etc in a fridge), plus a waffle making area.
The parking can be a little tight when the hotel is full but there is a dedicated parking area for the hotel and the staff very helpful with parking guidance.
There was easy access to the sides of the TVs in our room and the side HDMI connections. We were able to hook up our Roku player and watch as if home. There is included internet and it worked fast enough to watch TV and stream on the Roku and/or iPad, but isn’t super fast which may be due more to our location at the end of the building.
The main point of our trip here was to see the Battleship North Carolina and this was a great location to stay while doing so. The river walk was an added bonus. I will say that since the Battleship is on the other side of the river you will need to drive and cross one of two bridges but the traffic wasn’t bad to get there and back. All the hotels seem to be on the river walk side of the river and across from the Battleship with no way to walk to the Battleship.
There are plenty of tasty restaurants just back from the river walk or a block or so back. It’s best to do a google search to see the many options and the type of cuisine you want to try.
We highly recommend this hotel if it works out for you as it seems to be a smaller hotel and may fill up vs some of the larger ones around that area. Nice room, great location, very friendly staff, pet friendly, great breakfast and on the river walk. I hope your stay and visit to Wilmington goes as well as our quick...
Read moreI picked this hotel because I was looking for somewhere with good reviews and was within a certain price range - and ended up hitting the jackpot. I won't be able to give my opinion on the regular rooms because they had to give us their beautiful Tower Room for the reservation price online when they ran out of the type of room I had reserved. It was wonderful. The upper loft had views of the Cape Fear River and the USS North Carolina and the fold out couch downstairs was perfect for our two kids. There were also flat screens upstairs and downstairs, but we spent all of our free time at the Train Museum that shared the hotel parking lot and looking for and eating at one of the restaurants within walking distance along Wilmington's River Walk. We also took a quick tour of the small, but fun Museum of the Bizarre. Co-curated by a man called Red Eye, this place has an interesting collection of oddities from the past as well as some unique horror movie memorabilia- with a couple "dark" objects thrown in for thrills. I strongly recommend popping in for a look and maybe a chat if you have some time. The continental breakfast was served until 10am the next morning and was one of the best I've had to make use of. In addition to 3 dry cereal choices, they had a small hot bar of sausage, bacon or eggs, a make your own waffle station with 3 choices of toppings or just packets of syrup, coffee, some prewrapped pastries like muffins and cinnamon rolls, and a refrigerator with cup yogurt, fruit cups and jug milk for your cereal or coffee. The room is small, but forgivable since I've been in conference rooms where the continental breakfast was dry cereal in little boxes and bananas and apples for choices. The room also featured an all-tile bathroom with a stand-alone tub and a glass door shower with two heads-one coming straight from the ceiling, and the was detachable for ease of use. All interactions we had with any staff showed that they were polite and kind, from the desk staff that were happy to report we'd been upgraded, to the cleaning lady we interrupted, and the gentleman who may have been maintenance that my children tried to run over coming out of the elevator. The stay in the Tower Room at Best Western Plus really made what was already a nice mini vacation an Especially Nice...
Read moreWe've stayed at other high class high quality hotels in the area and decided to give this one a try. From the other hotels we'd walk to the waterfront and so with this particular hotel being on the waterfront and of course with a river view we decided to give a try. Other than that this has got to be one of the worse hotels I, we have ever stayed at. For starters there's nothing fancy about this very basic, motelish type of hotel. Gnats and flies everywhere. Very dusty dirty rooms. From the phone, night stand, floor lamp and other furniture--doesn't look like a cloth has touched it in I don't know how long. The room was infested with gnats, flies and roaches. The entire room was infested. I spent our entire stay from sun up to sun down swatting, slapping, smacking and clapping at gnats and flies. They were literally everywhere---in the bathroom on the walls, windows, mirror, ceilings. You couldn't even eat your food in peace. Oh speaking of food, did I mention the rooms do not come equipped with a microwave (was not aware of this before we booked this hotel). Imagine having to leave the comfort of your room to go and heat up your food at the microwave in the lobby. Such an inconvenience. The air quality was just as bad as I struggled with breathing as I have pet allergies. There was pet hairs and dander on my face and clothes from the bedding/sheets. Had to use my fiance's inhaler several times as a result. The bed itself was very hard and uncomfortable making for an unpleasant rest. The bedding and sheets they are of poor, cheap quality and thin. (the bottom fitted sheet was also dirty which is why left the first room in the first place). The bedding/sheets were dirty and dingy looking. Lacked that clean, crisp and fresh look and feel. Not at all white like they're supposed to be. It's as if they're not washed in bleach at all. So bottom line, would I stay here again. Absolutely not. Would I recommend it....
